Exercises

I have really been enjoying my Wren2, and I am at the end of the free 90 days of lessons that came with it.

One thing that really didn't seem to be covered was: What are some good exercises that you can use to help you move your fingers independently (especially pinkie and ring finger) are there certain songs or warm ups that you play to build those muscles? Or even just regular exercises to build that movement, not on the instrument. I am looking for something for both hands, but i am struggling most with the left.

Hayden Duet... how to find one.

Hi all,

Looking for recent intel on finding new and used instruments... concertina.net seems no longer to be a thing, and my initial looks at general online resale sites (craigslist, FB marketplace, ebay, etc) are not bringing up much - especially because I'm looking for an unusual instrument.

Interested in a Hayden duet - I'm a professional-level pianist/organist and I lead a Celtic band (not very authentic because I'm on the keys). So... as concertina beginners go I'm probably a good bet for Duet... I've been warned, and to be sure getting one at all, reasonably priced if possible, is tricky.

I'm in Canada - we don't have resellers, let alone producers, so online is definitely my main tool.

Appreciate any advice,

-CD

"Humming" keys?

I noticed recently that one of my keys isn't cutting off cleanly when I take my finger off it, instead continuing to let through a small amount of air and "fade out" with a distracting whine or hum.

I tried opening it up and cleaning the reeds and valves with a piece of paper, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. I noticed at the time that some of the valves are a little bit shorter than their apertures, could that have anything to do with it? Or should I try adjusting the key pads ( I wasn't able to open them up this time).

Fwiw my instrument is a dead ringer for the one in the video.

Portsmouth (Concertina+Recorder)

Based on the Mike Oldfield version but a little too repetitive due to lack of creativity lol. The concertina is a 46-button Lachenal duet.

Guess Im starting now with one

Heya, I ordered a proper hohner (30key) off of ebay from a buisness. I wanted to ask if you have any tips?

I never really played a instrument before, except guitar which I tried (and failed) to learn. I was inspired to learn it cause of 3-4 songs I loved and fits perfectly to the instrument. So yea, ask me anything, tell me what I should know or stuff you wished you knew earlier when learning
