Fixing Abus folding lock to frame — what mount are people using?

Hey all — I want to mount my Abus Bordo X on my my C4 frame but it doesn’t have any Allen-screw bosses on the frame where you’d normally bolt a water bottle holder or lock mount.

Anyone found a clamp or strap-based cage/lock mount that actually seats well and would enable me to use my holder? Something sturdy ideally.

I live in Brussels if helpful.

Thanks !

Cowboy C4 Battery - Revival attempt support (London, UK)

Long-story short, a mixture of going through a separation with my former partner and later an injury (smashed heel bone) meant that my Cowboy got forgotten about and is now obviously unresponsive. It has probably been 2 years since I last rode it.

I got a 18650 battery to swap the one in the logic board but haven't done that yet, parked it for now just in case reviving the main battery is enough.

But I am now stuck with the battery... Unfortunately the reset plan didn't do anything and I am not sure how to move forward. Is anyone in London (SE10 or nearby) knowledgeable enough to see if anything can be done? Or anyone you'd recommend to bring the battery to? I don't have the tools or skill to do any kind of soldering, nor it seems the most smart thing to do with 0 competency on it.

As many people here do, I have a love-hate relationship with my Cowboy and I really don't want to spend nearly ÂŁ500 on a battery, only for something else to break later. This bike is like a black hole that sucks money into it and I am looking for a cheap way to revive it and if all of that fails, I will try and sell it "as is" or just keep it collecting dust in my bike rack.

15 months into the C4 ST recall and Cowboy still haven't collected my bike (UK) + Stolen replacement

May 2025: recall, told to stop riding immediately. Cowboy said all frames replaced within 2025.

August 2026: No dates or responses from Cowboy.

In between: took 3+ months of chasing to get the Swapfiets loaner they'd offered. ÂŁ400 on Forest credits covering that gap. Loaner got angle-ground off a rack last week, and that surcharge is on me, they didn't give me the option to get theft insurance and they didn't get it either.

I'm now 15 months delayed and I have to pay swapfiets ÂŁ220 for a stolen bike even though I told Cowboy I'd have to leave the bike outside as the cowboy takes up too much space in my apartment.

So: 15 months of a bike I'm not allowed to ride, on a safety recall, repair not even started. I've spent over ÂŁ600, all cowboy's fault.

UK owners have you been contacted? How long? Or is UK just getting deprioritised while mainland Europe gets served?

Theft insurance

Hi all! My insurance with Cowboy (Qover) will be ending soon and I’m wondering whether it is worth it to renew my subscription. I live in Amsterdam where more and more bikes get stolen, so I am wondering regarding the support they provide, as the police will (probably) do nothing.

Please let me know your experiences, thank you!

Seat Clamp C3

Hi all, this is a long shot, but does anyone happen to have a spare seat clamp for a Cowboy S3?

I broke mine by overtightening the screw, and I just found out that delivery for the replacement part won’t be until October... If anyone has one lying around that they’re not using, I’d be happy to buy it from you.

I am also very open for alternative solutions to fixate my seat post, if there are any! Thanks in advance.

I repair Cowboys daily in Amsterdam - maintenance tips per model + AMA

Disclosure: mechanic and founder of OnTheRoad (mobile e-bike repair, Amsterdam). Cowboys are most of my work, so here's what actually breaks per generation:

C2/C3: belt wear around 8-10k km, and the C3 battery connector is a known weak spot - if your bike dies on bumps, that's usually it.

C4/Cruiser: the SunRace brakes want a mineral-oil bleed every 6-12 months. Spongy lever = overdue.

Cruiser/Cruiser ST: sagging seat post is almost never the clamp - old grease is the culprit.

Ask me anything about your Cowboy - happy to help you fix things yourself too.

Looking for suggestions

Hi. I have a cowboy 4st frame replaced back in April. Since then my front light is sticking out like shown in the picture. Anyone had a similar issue or does anybody know how to fix it?

Two new things we’re working on for Cowboy bikes "Motor cable & Poke Yoke nuts"

We’ve recently started repairing Cowboy motors with damaged motor cables, instead of replacing the complete motor/rear wheel. Typical repair is around 1,600 DKK, and we accept motors/rear wheels shipped from anywhere in the EU.

We’re also testing our own Poka Yoke axle solution. Early testing is going well, and we’re looking for a few Cowboy owners who would like to test one free of charge and send us feedback/photos afterwards.

We work specifically with Cowboy bikes in Copenhagen, so if you have a technical Cowboy question or a strange fault you can’t figure out, feel free to ask here.

If your seat post screws are broken!

That was the easiest way to take these small devils out!

You need left-handed drills "available everywhere", use size 1/8 , good driller, bike should not move, use your hand for extra torque , drill anti-clockwise, 3 minutes and they are out without damaging the thread or doing a new helicoil. Don't forget to use better quality screws! Enjoy!

Riemen fĂĽr ein Cowboy 2

Liebe Community,

Firmware update for Classic

I have a Cowboy Classic which I bought in 2023. I haven’t used my bike in almost a year, so I believe the firmware is out of date (v4.21.5). However, I’m not seeing any option or menu to update my bike. My phone is properly connected to the bike so I don’t think that's the issue.

Is this the current version or should I have an update prompt somewhere?

DHL box

I had to leave my COWBOY 3 behind when I moved.

The friend who’s been storing it for me now wants to send it over by DHL. Unfortunately, I’m quite far away and can’t measure it myself at the moment. He’s also got it stored in a garage at a different address, so he can’t easily pop over and measure it either.

Would a Cowboy 3 fit into a box measuring 1600 Ă— 200 Ă— 800 mm?

Does anyone happen to know?
