🚨 Help! Cubase has deleted instrument and FX plugins and reset ports/settings overnight.

HELP

Overnight, Cubase Pro 14 has reset half of my settings and ports, it has also deleted some of my most used FX plugins (Valhalla Delay for instance) and instrument VSTs (my Arturia SPARK drum machine).

Also the custom colors of my tracks have also been removed and are now grey/black again. And the transport bar/playhead behaviour settings have been reset too.

What the hell is going on?

I'm on Windows 11 and I haven't modified/installed/uninstalled anything between yesterday and today.

Everything was working perfectly fine yesterday, except ONE thing: Cubase crashed at the end of my session with the sound still playing but everything was frozen, including the mouse cursor. The only way to get it to stop was to reset the PC (even Windows was frozen). Could this have caused this problem within Cubase?

I don't want to reinstall Cubase as it would take me weeks with all the VSTs I have.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S.: Please try to avoid comments like "Use [insert DAW name] instead", as it wouldn't help, thank you.

Why exactly is Cubase better than FL for orchestra

Hi! I'm a complete beginner in music production, I've only really meddled in the art of composition through just improving at the piano for a few too many hours. I was looking at options for DAWs to start getting into it seriously and put my ideas into something more concrete than notes in my head.

I narrowed it down to two options: Cubase and FL Studio. I've read right about everywhere that Cubase is better for orchestral, but I don't get why. Not being in the industry, I can not for the life of me find info on how important some of the main points in favour of Cubase are without going through a rabbit hole so I just went ahead and wanted to ask directly here. So I'm gonna ask,

Why exactly is Cubase better than FL Studio (or ig any DAW) at orchestral music, and how important are its pros over FL? The only reason I'm asking in the first place is the price, really. The "average' Cubase edition (artist from what ive seen) is 100eur more than FL Producer, and doesn't have free updates between major versions like FL, so that's kind of scaring me away a little bit. On the other hand, FL is mainly used for hip hop from what I've seen and I'm really not interested and probably never will be interested in making that, so I'm kind of scared it will be harder to learn based on what I want to do with it.

Thanks!!

PS: sorry for the 999th "which DAW to use?" question, I'm the one to always look for other posts I just couldnt find one that fits my exact case, even a bit loosely :)

PS 2: i'm also kind of interested in doing rock/metal/alt, a bit less than orchestral but still enough to make it a big enough point to sway my decision. Is Cubase good enough for that kind of music out of the box, or is there more I need to buy or anything?

Get rid of Unwanted reverb

I am hearing reverb (or maybe slight echo) at the beginning of each vocal track. It goes away after a few seconds. I want to get rid of this reverb. Does anyone have some ideas about what is generating this reverb?

Switched to Linux about 3-4 months ago.. is there any way to get Cubase to run under Linux (Ubuntu Studio)?

Wine, CodeWeavers, .NET etc... more and more it seems windows software is being ported to Linux or can work under some translation layers.. I'm hoping I can make Cubase work in a similar fashion?

side note:
I switched from Windows to Mac 15 years ago, and now have now switched from Mac to Linux.

Not going back to either operating system with the amount of AI spyware they are putting on those systems.

Note to Steinberg: make this possible or no longer buying your annual pro upgrades.

Halion

Wondering what are your thoughts on halion, I bought it 3 years ago thinking of having a sort of workstation type of sound palette, and I found that sounded terrible to me, cold, digital and I was quite disappointed. Never used it.What is your opinion?

Tips for improving my workflow with the tools I have available. Read below.⬇️⬇️

Hi, everyone! I'm using my iPad as a second monitor, but I'd like to be able to use the touchscreen. I've heard that this issue has been fixed in the new iPadOS, but aside from that, I'm not sure if you have any other recommendations for software I can use to improve my experience in the mixer window, or for macros that let me perform a function with just one tap. I’ve heard of Cubase IC Pro or even Metagrid, but I haven’t tried them yet. If you’ve used this method or are still using it, what has worked best for you?

What VST plugins to have for film scoring.

I have been struggling with what vst plugins to have for film scoring, there seems to be a lot and many of them very expensive. I am looking for a sort of starting vst kit. This is all mainly to save my bank account and to create a great template I can just start writing in without worrying if I have all the sounds I want. (I understand creating a template is much more than just vst's).

I value a good orchestral library so I own The Berlin orchestra Berklee vst

Exporting seconds of audio takes minutes to export

I've used Cubase for decades and in 15.30 or who knows why exporting a section of 2 or 3 seconds takes 3 minutes. It's like it's ignoring my markers and taking always this long regardless of the length of what I actually export. This is new to me. A

introducing 0Z Effect Manipulator VST - converts sidechain waveform into midi cc data

This is a hybrid audio/midi effect plugin. It's main function is to convert audio (through sidechain routing) into a midi cc data, this data can than be used to control various parameters in its internal effects or control parameters in other effects and plugins.

It is experimental in nature, offering some unexpected sound design possibilities especially in following one audio track amplitude with a synced movement in another through audio effects or synth parameters.

It is free (pay what you choose with 0 minimum).

So Windows sucks for professional recording?

I've been recording for over 30 years and was a very early user on Cubase..

But recently I painted myself into a corner because I had no idea that Windows has either become limited or somehow I was not ever hitting it in the past...

Overtime, I intentionally purchased a Roland RD88 and then a Roland SH4D and finally in SSL 18.. All best in class as digital sources and it took me a long time to get everything the way I wanted it..

And then I learned that they aren't really digitally compatible... I've learned that Windows won't allow the RD-88 and SH4D to record digitally through the SSL 18 because Windows doesn't allow multiple drivers.

I never had this problem on a Mac and I've learned that apparently they handle drivers differently so that this type of problem doesn't exist.

If this is true, I can't understand how any professional could use Windows..

Am I missing something?

Hey, everyone! I wanted to ask for your help with something.

I’m studying audio and am currently learning about equalization (EQ). I more or less understand the theory: I know the types of EQ, the parameters (frequency, gain, Q), I know what the filters are for, and I understand the concepts when they’re explained.

The problem arises when I have a mix in front of me.

For example, I was given a mixing exercise using only EQ, and I realized I’m completely lost. I don’t know which track to start with, what I should listen for first, what my goal should be when equalizing each instrument, or how to make all the elements work together.

I watch a lot of videos where they demonstrate cuts and boosts, talk about cleaning up frequencies or creating space between instruments, but when I open my session, I end up asking myself: “So what do I do now? Do I start with the kick drum? The vocals? The bass? How do I know which frequency to adjust and why?”

I feel like I understand the tools individually, but I struggle a lot with the practical process and decision-making involved in a real mix.

Do you know of any videos or resources that have helped you move from understanding the theory to actually applying EQ in a real mix?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I bought a license a few years ago, never used the software, anyone needs it?

Hi! I bought a license a few years ago and never got to use it because of life circumstances. The way things shaped up I will not be able to use it maybe ever. I am curious if anyone wants to buy it with discount on top of the discount I had. From what I can read Cubase allows this kind of transfers.

Cheers!

Former Fender Studio Pro user exploring Cubase: Need advice

Hi everyone,

I'm a new Cubase user coming from Fender Studio Pro. One of the main reasons I decided to try Cubase is that I felt FSP was becoming increasingly focused on guitarists and moving more toward a subscription-based model. But that's a different discussion, and I'm not here to debate that.

I'm currently using the Cubase trial version, and so far I'm really impressed. It feels like a significant step up in terms of overall capability and polish. Workflow-wise, I haven't had much trouble adapting since I also use Reaper regularly.

There is one feature I'm hoping to find in Cubase, or at least something similar.

In Studio One/Fender Studio Pro (and also in Reaper), I can create custom macro toolbars with buttons that perform specific actions. For example, I've created buttons that instantly insert various virtual instrument tracks from saved track presets with a single click. This lets me bypass the usual process of creating a track, selecting an instrument, loading a preset, or dragging items from instrument browser.

I've been searching for a Cubase equivalent. Most of the videos I've found show assigning a shortcut to insert a track preset and then choosing the instrument from a preset list. While that's useful, it still involves additional clicks compared to the one click workflow I'm used to.

Is there a way in Cubase to create dedicated toolbar buttons, macros, or custom commands that can directly insert specific instrument track presets with a single click? If so, I'd appreciate any guidance or examples or links

Thanks in advance for any insights..

Midi MPE Piano Roll for Cubase

We made an MIDI MPE editor that works with Cubase (and other daws) as a plugin or as a standalone (sends out midi like a virtual keyboard).

If you want to check it out it is called Glide by Painted Audio.

Why is there no "drum machine" option in the lower column for me in Cubase LE 15?

I am completely new to cubase (literally started yesterday) and I saw a bunch of videos of people programming drums with a drum machine in cubase 15, and I can't find it. If anybody knows, please lemme know! Thanks!
