I have had a baby boy dachshund since November, and he’s around 8.5 months old now. He’s just the happiest lil man and has done so well with general training. However, he has not gotten potty training down. It feels like utter failures every time he has an accident because it’s never like hours have gone by since his last outside time. His accidents are all happening within 1 hour of going potty outside.
He did go approx 2 months without an accident then the last 3 days has had 3 accidents. I feel super confused as to why this is happening, we have such a good daily structure. I guess I’m just looking for any other dachshund pup owners is this normal? Any advice how to improve this training? Right now he goes out about every 2-3 hours usually unless it’s super warm then he goes out more frequently. And he is peeing only inside, right in front of me always (not like he’s hiding it).
Attached is a picture of his incredible cuteness.
This is my puppy Toffee she's 6 months old.
I've seen a lot about how difficult daschunds are but personally my experience has been nothing but great.
I got her when she was only 2 months old and the second she got home she immediately understood where to go potty. 0 accidents.
She almost never barks, she only does when someone is at the door and nothing too bad.
She hasn't destroyed anything and is extremely easy going and loving.
She is also incredibly smart and knows how to build stairs by herself by moving things around to go up on beds or sofas.
I guess the only not so good thing about her is that she is too friendly and goes crazy when other dogs cross her path while on a walk.
I know it's probably just her specific personality but I wanted to share some daschund love and give a different opinion for those who are a bit discouraged to get one by the warning labels on these dogs. **Don't hesitate, these are wonderful dogs!!! <3**
This is Dexter the furthest thing from a dog
Hi everyone, I'm deciding whether to get a dog, and will be a first time dog owner. I'm single, 31F, and work from home and I really want a little weenie of my own.
I'm scared to pull the trigger because I know having a dog is a huge commitment and responsibility, that they are more than "cute." I'm very responsible in general, and I know I have to be locked in when raising my own pup. If I were a dog mom, I'd made sure I'd be a good and responsible one.
What holds me back is I think it's the giving up the personal freedom and the financial responsibility. I feel like I can afford it... I make low 6 figures and am currently renting. I live in a big city area. Has anyone ever felt like this before deciding to get a dog? Those who relate to my experience or situation and got one, how was your experience?
I grew up with dachshunds but my family was not aggressive with training. They would potty in the house because they were cold and didn’t want to go outside, and didn’t really know many commands.
I have a Weimaraner who’s extremely well trained (after 2 years of thorough and repeatable training)
I have read that dachshunds are extremely stubborn with potty training and will often go in the house - do you guys experience that?
We have a strict schedule of potty breaks / walks - 8am, 12pm, 3pm, 7pm, then 12am for a quick pee before bed. So my Weim knows when she will be going potty next and has never had an accident since a puppy.
I also heard they regularly eat feces. This seems avoidable for us - we live in a large apartment and will be walking on a leash and obviously remove from situations where they can do that.
I’d really like to get a Doxie but we also will have a baby this year so if they completely ignore training I might need to look at a different breed - just curious to hear others’ experiences!
Boop!
Drop your dog photos in the comment, ill draw a few of em for free.

Every single night my dachshund pretends he’s exhausted all day… but the SECOND I start getting ready for bed, suddenly he becomes extremely emotionally invested in the entire process 😂
Brushing teeth? supervising.
Getting blankets ready? involved.
Closing the bedroom door without him? absolutely unacceptable.
And once we’re finally in bed he has to do at least three dramatic circles, sigh loudly, and somehow end up sleeping directly sideways across my legs.
I genuinely don’t know how such a small dog can take up 90% of the bed 😭
Does anyone else live with a tiny bedtime manager or is mine just extra dramatic?
Just picked this little guy up today. The info from the shelter says he was abandoned. He seems to have fit right in with our other dogs.
He's already running around playing. Already claiming laps. He's just a happy little guy lol. He is 14 pounds. Seems to be mixed. They say pure bred but I dont think so. Doesn't matter anyway.
We have a few names but can't really decide on the one. Moose, Thor, or tater tot is what we have came up with so far. 😂
What do you guys think?
Hi everybody, this is Louie. He’s about a year old. I’ve been potty training him ever since I got him and we got very good about going outside, but he also still goes inside. I’ve removed pads from the equation completely and now it’s just outside, but he will still poop in the house and he won’t let me know that he has to go outside. We have a schedule 5 AM -food & outside, 7 AM before work -Outside,when I get off food then outside . So on so fourth . He still pooping in the crate and he will go off into a random room and poop. I take him out every so often but it still happens. I really need help. Can somebody provide tips on what I could be doing or what I’m doing wrong.
This is Moose. He’s 8 weeks old and 6.6lbs. Best dog I’ve ever had! So affectionate and crazy! We’ve only had him a week but he’s truly a character.
