What should I do today?

I’ve been living downtown for over a year and I NEVER get out! I work too much, and when I’m not working I’m too tired and unmotivated to explore.

Today I am heading out! I’m going to walk around, no plans except at some point I’d like to find a place to get my nails done. Besides that, can anyone recommend places to see or stop by? Is anything going on today that might be fun or interesting? A nice patio or rooftop for a snack or a drink? I have a few things in mind, but I want to hear suggestions from those that are more familiar with the neighborhood.

Looking forward to seeing your replies! Have a good Sunday everyone, and thank you in advance.

solo dining?

Hi, I'm excited to spend a few days in DTLA next month (visiting from San Francisco), and I would be grateful for any suggestions/ideas for not-awkward solo dining. I was thinking I'd probably be happy to just eat my way through Grand Central Market for 3 days. Is that insane? I hear the tacos are good. Also, planning to get around primarily by walking and/or e-bike, which is my usual mode in San Francisco. Is that realistic? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Dog Parks?

Hey neighbors! So I have 2 pretty big pups that require a lot of exercise, so we typically make our way to the LA Live dog park, or to Spring Street park (which isn’t technically a dog park but has ample running room for them) on a daily basis.

My preferred spot is Pershing Square when it isn’t gated off for a concert and I let them run around in the grassy area chasing birds until a security guard says something. I live in a historical building, so there isn’t a dedicated dog area, so morning and evening poops take place at Central Library on Flower. This is the norm for many of us as I see the same dogs and owners making that trip daily.

Now, for a neighborhood where I believe at least 1/4 of the residents have dogs, or maybe that’s just the make up of my building, there must be a local dog park that I am just oblivious to. I don’t mind walking to LA Live or Spring Street, but that mile each way isn’t always feasible on busy days. There is no way a city, and Downtown specifically, is so populated with dog owners, but there are no real dog parks.

Can you guys let me know where you take your dogs to run off leash around DTLA, especially areas in walking distance to the library? Thanks!

Hawaiian BBQ restaurant opening this week at 7th Street/Metro Center northeast entrance. Former Qdoba space has been empty since COVID.

The space has been empty for four years, making this portal to 7MC feel kind of abandoned and sketchy. Hopefully the new business and foot traffic will make this side of the subway station feel safer and more lively. Also BOGO on Friday haha

The former Wetzels/Dunkin space remains empty

Mural Question

The immigration mural on Grand Ave. between Olympic and 11th got a fresh paint job and graffiti was removed. Looks good.

Question: at top right, under the 11, is a Masonic symbol. Anyone know why it's there?
