Finally managed to get my eBay special coilovers shipped to me, welded them up and installed.
How are we liking the stance? idk how I feel about the rake

I found this part next to my E28 while it was parked, it looks like it definitely belongs to it but I cannot see from underneath where it belongs. I've done some research and it looks to be a bushing of some sort but I have yet to find the exact part to replace. Does anyone have any ideas?

Here’s a few pictures of me redoing some of my floors, rust wasn’t super bad but definitely had some holes I could put a few fingers in.

Just fiberglassed the holes after OSPHO Etching, 2k epoxy primer, then rusty metal primer, then rustoleum underbody rust reformed the whole floorboard. If this thing ever tries to rust again I’d be surprised lmao.

Measured both sound deadening materials so ya’ll know what thickness to buy or upgrade for replacements! I’m doing 80mil (2mm) Amazon Butyl, 3mm thermafiber “open cell” taped around edges and seems, and 394mil (10mm) closed cell” on top before putting the refurbished carpet ontop. Converted the gas pedal to a floating one and have a new metal foot rest on the way.

Welcomed a new Bimmer to the barn, and despite knowing on paper how big these cars have become, I was still somewhat shocked by it in person. A new G80 three dwarfs the E28 five!

The first BMW M5 wasn't created from scratch.

Its heart came from a car that BMW had already given up on.

The BMW M1 was supposed to become BMW's answer to the world's best racing cars. It had a mid-mounted engine, a Giugiaro-designed body and the M88 inline-six developed by Paul Rosche.

But the M1 project became a commercial failure. Production ended in 1981, with fewer than 400 road cars built.

The interesting part is what happened next.

BMW Motorsport didn't abandon the M88 engine.

It first found a home in the M635CSi. And then, in 1984, BMW Motorsport began building something that seemed almost absurd at the time:

A four-door executive sedan with the heart of a supercar.

The result was the E28 M5.

286 hp. Around 245 km/h. Less than seven seconds to 100 km/h.

From the outside, it looked almost like an ordinary business sedan. Underneath, it carried an engine descended directly from the BMW M1.

That's one of the reasons I think the E28 M5 is such an important car. It didn't just become the first M5 — it helped establish the idea of the modern high-performance sedan.

I recently spent some time researching the story behind this car, and the more I learned about the connection between the M1 and the M5, the more interesting it became.
