Throwing in the towel

I'm calling it quits on the build I was attempting, there are just too many things I'm discovering as I go that should have been considered when I started, but I failed to do so.

Things I would like to part with to a good home (and reasonable recoupment of investment):

  1. Power Steering rebuilt by Jay, new paint and all (https://www.jaysbmwparts.com/work/power-steering-hydro-gear-box)
  2. "Big Brake Kit" we purchased some large calipers that needed a lot of TLC, after performing the cleanup, we did both a high-temperature primer (oven cured) and anthracite paint (oven cured), and have the rotors to go with them. Fronts: 1995 BMW 540I 4.0L V8, Rears: 1988 BMW 735I 3.5L L6
  3. PowerFlex Purple bushings for all locations -- includes two rolls of PTFE (Teflon) tape for installation to ensure they don't squeak. High idle issue, 1988 528e

Got the car a couple of months ago and I’ve been tracking down a high idle issue. The car was idling at 1500-1600rpm when in park and neutral, I replaced fuel injector O-Rings, a few hoses, cleaned the air flow sensor, cleaned the ICV, and replaced the TPS and adjusted it accordingly. All of that got it down to about 1000-1100rpm now and it’s running very healthy overall. Any tips or ideas of what to check out to help solve this issue?

(The car drives fine and doesn’t idle oddly whatsoever under load)

Need Help Registering for MyE28.com

The registration question is bugging me - I tried 12 & 34 in all the possible combinations, and so did 24 & 30, but nothing is working. I just want to look for E28s and be active on the forum 🥲. If I can get some help on this that would be greatly appreciated.

Soooo… i have 390mm or 15.35 inch wheels

Hi people, anyone experienced this before?

Bmw had metric wheels in the 70s-90s and I happen to have a set on my e28.

Has anyone found a decent tyre solution outside of the Michelin trx range?

Im looking for the cheap ass solution (i wont put 15’ tyres on)

Current tyre size 230/55zr390

Thanks in advance

One way to do it!

I tried to press them out, but the metal beast just broke bushing around. It was still in, so I just decided to burn them off and then tap them out with a pry bar.

My money pit

Bought Vietnamese steel bumpers just need to get everything else sorted, trim, mounts, etc. think I am going to replace the valance since it is pretty bent on the drivers side corner and along where it mounts on top.

I would like to try mounting my US fogs vertically on the valance instead of paying for euro fogs.

e28 startup issues

my e28 is experiencing startup issues. In clip 1, my car started but it made a clear and rough grinding sound. After a few days of starting up my car like this, one day upon startup it began to just whir (clip 2). Am I correct to assume that this is a starter issue?

Got my b35 e12 swap running and driving but dealing with bean sensor sync loss.

Anyone have any success with running a Hall effect sensor on these? I’m dealing with almost dead crank sync loss above 2000 rpm. Looking at maybe DIYAUTOTUNE tabbed crank sensor if possible

manual swapping with a 4hp22eh

reading up on dave kan’s diy guide, he had a 1985 535i with a normal 4hp22, not the 22eh model. so, guessing this is a eh specific cable. gonna just put it to the side for now, but guessing this is one of the ‘just cut it’ cables - the 9 prong on the other hand i know i have to jump to bypass park.

Advice for e28 Ownership

Hi everyone, I’m a second year college student who owns an ‘88 eta. It currently doesn’t run due to flywheel issues, but for the most part it’s decently sorted but far from finished. I’m working this summer and I hope to have saved up around $4-5k in a couple months. My question is, would it be smart to use that to fix up my e28 and drive it to school and for school (which is from LA to SF), or buy a beater to drive during the school year. It seems to me like e28s are money pits and it wouldn’t seem comfortable driving daily a 40 year car, but I’d like your input on this topic.

Edit: these are the parts I have replaced

✅Timing belt
✅ Timing belt tensioner
✅ Valve cover gasket
✅ Oil pan gasket
✅ Radiator
✅ Cooling hoses
✅ Coolant service
✅ Fuel pumps + relay
✅ Battery
✅ Starter
✅ Guibo
✅ Control arms
✅ Pads + rotors
✅ New wheels/tires
✅ Alignment

A simple picture of my 518i on the first drive since 2009!

Picked up this "parts car" a couple months ago, ended up fixing it instead.

Replaced everything fuel related (except injectors)

Replaced everything spark related

Rebuilt the brakes front and rear

Redid all the wiring for the lights and refurbished the headlights

There's still a million vacuum leaks to sort out but it runs and drives at least. Rustwelding begins next fall once it's mechanically sorted 😁

Anyone know of these can be slapped on an e28?

Wanting new lights. Just trying to see what’s out there these are in good condition.
