For 200 I couldn't say no. Now its time to make more basket weave bbs center caps and color match it.

I took my '85 535i on a very spirited drive with the local BMW CCA chapter over the weekend, during which my speedo stopped working. When I arrived at our destination shortly thereafter, I did a cursory check of the electrical connector (tight) and rolled fore / aft a bit to ensure there were no noises coming from the diff (silent). Everything else was working fine, so I assumed maybe it was a problem with wiring or a fault in the cluster and drove home without issue.

A few hours later, I noticed a small puddle of Red Line under the diff (eff....) and pulled the speed sensor: One of its two prongs is broken off and the body is cracked. I can't really tell for sure where the oil is coming from, but the bolts securing the cover are all tight and the RTV seal looks good, so I suspect it's leaking round the compromised sensor. The diff was bone dry and clean as a whistle before this.

I'm hoping (foolishly no doubt) that the reluctor ring just flexed slightly under hard cornering, smashed the plastic sensor, and that I can drain the oil, fish out the pulverized bits of speed sensor, and throw in a new one? Has anyone ever had one of these break without the diff itself being the problem? It seems more likely that there's some slop / play internally that needs to be addressed :/

The PO had a bunch of issues with the diff (it's an LSD BTW), and ultimately had it completely rebuilt a couple of years ago. Worried I'm headed back down that same road...

Ordered from a German eBay seller. Was about $67 in import fees to the US. Chose it over blaupunkt because of the 13 band EQ and simplistic look.

Running it into a 5 channel amp with new speakers all around and a 10” sub in trunk. Kind of want to fit 5.25” speakers in the front.

Going to run my vdo continental over.

I am going to be selling my 1988 535i and need help with pricing. I’ve looked at other 535i’s selling around my state and country-wide and I’ve used several of the valuation tools, but the prices are all over the place. Any help would be appreciated.

Car is a 1988 535i manual with 175,000 miles. Bronzit Metallic with tan interior. I don’t drive it often but I drove it for about thirty minutes a month ago and it starts and runs well. Coolant light is on and intermittent brake light as well, although the brakes work well and I’ve never had coolant/over heating issues. I’ve replaced the coolant temp sensor, fuel pump, spark plugs, air filter, various worn hoses and lines and new wheels and tires and I cleaned and adjusted the air fuel meter. Lights, power locks, power windows and sunroof and stereo all work, doesn’t smoke.

Aside from the coolant light and intermittent brake light on inside the car, the known issues are the drivers side head rest doesn’t go up or down, cracks in the dash, clear coat has come off of most of the car, tiny spot of surface rust on the body, a/c doesn’t work, the leather on the seats is hard and cracked and there is a small tear in the headliner. I’m sure there are other small things here and there that I’ve missed, overall the car just needs some attention and TLC.

I used it for a daily for about six months and then was planning to do paint and interior but it’s taken to the wayside now. I’m not expecting to get very much out of the sale but the tools I’ve used and classifieds I’ve looked at range anywhere from a couple thousand dollars to ten thousand. My initial thoughts were somewhere between $3,000-$4,000.

Officially graduated (up) to an e28 in life. After many, many e30s, I can firmly say the e28 is far cooler in all areas - except perhaps interior fit and finish.

So I have a 1988 528 super eta replaced the air filter and in the process my air mass meter boot ripped a hole so I used so silicone works great as a temporary repair new one coming in soon.

I also cleaned my idle air control valve with some brake cleaner and wd40.

Alot of you seen my crashed 1986 E28 M535i post last month. I have acquired another one and I'm now in the process of repairing rust and repainting. Sewn better days but mechanically well taken care of and purchased from second owner. Originally delivered/sold in Australia. Dogleg Getrag265/5 manual gearbox

I will take what parts I want to keep off the old M535i and move on the rest to someone who might want to rebuild. Got to love e28's!
