Switched from the EBOX Nokia router to a TP-Link AX3000, now my IPTV freezes every ~10 minutes
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone here has run into something similar because I'm starting to run out of ideas.
I recently replaced the Nokia router provided by EBOX with a TP-Link AX3000 (Archer AX55 v4) to get a better coverage in my house. Ever since then, I've been having a strange issue when streaming live video (IPTV).
Every 10 minutes, the stream freezes (or starts buffering). What's odd is that it's not a complete loss of Internet. If I simply switch to another channel and immediately switch back, the stream resumes instantly. If I don't do anything, it usually starts playing again after about 15-20 seconds. Another odd thing is that it's always every 10 minutes, so if it starts buffering at 9h02, it will buffer at 9h12, 9h22, etc, no exception...
I don't know much about networking, but after a lot of troubleshooting, my investigation seems to point to the TP-Link router or its configuration with Ebox MTU settings.
My setup
- ISP: EBOX (Bell FTTH)
- Nokia ONT/modem from EBOX
- TP-Link AX3000 (Archer AX55 v4)
- PPPoE with VLAN 40
- Firmware: 1.1.2 Build 20241014 rel.59971
What I've tested
- Same issue over Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
- No issue if I stream with my cellphone data (hotspot)
- Internet itself never drops (continuous ping stays stable during the freezes).
- Web browsing, Teams meetings, etc. all work perfectly while the stream is frozen.
- Tried disabling SPI Firewall, changing buffer settings, testing with/without VPN, disabling IPv6, etc. No difference.
The test that convinced me
I unplugged the TP-Link router and put the original Nokia router back.
Without changing anything else (same modem, same ISP, same devices), the problem completely disappeared.
Has anyone using EBOX experienced something similar when you replaced the Nokia router?
