Switched from the EBOX Nokia router to a TP-Link AX3000, now my IPTV freezes every ~10 minutes

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone here has run into something similar because I'm starting to run out of ideas.

I recently replaced the Nokia router provided by EBOX with a TP-Link AX3000 (Archer AX55 v4) to get a better coverage in my house. Ever since then, I've been having a strange issue when streaming live video (IPTV).

Every 10 minutes, the stream freezes (or starts buffering). What's odd is that it's not a complete loss of Internet. If I simply switch to another channel and immediately switch back, the stream resumes instantly. If I don't do anything, it usually starts playing again after about 15-20 seconds. Another odd thing is that it's always every 10 minutes, so if it starts buffering at 9h02, it will buffer at 9h12, 9h22, etc, no exception...

I don't know much about networking, but after a lot of troubleshooting, my investigation seems to point to the TP-Link router or its configuration with Ebox MTU settings.

My setup

  • ISP: EBOX (Bell FTTH)
  • Nokia ONT/modem from EBOX
  • TP-Link AX3000 (Archer AX55 v4)
  • PPPoE with VLAN 40
  • Firmware: 1.1.2 Build 20241014 rel.59971

What I've tested

  • Same issue over Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
    • No issue if I stream with my cellphone data (hotspot)
  • Internet itself never drops (continuous ping stays stable during the freezes).
    • Web browsing, Teams meetings, etc. all work perfectly while the stream is frozen.
  • Tried disabling SPI Firewall, changing buffer settings, testing with/without VPN, disabling IPv6, etc. No difference.

The test that convinced me

I unplugged the TP-Link router and put the original Nokia router back.

Without changing anything else (same modem, same ISP, same devices), the problem completely disappeared.

Has anyone using EBOX experienced something similar when you replaced the Nokia router?

Referral code megathread - July 2026

EBOX referral codes provide a one time $25 credit for both the code's owner and the person using the code. It is applied after the customer's first month of service passes, on the code owner's next bill and on the new customer's second bill.

This is the megathread for July 2026. Post your code in a single top level comment here with no other text and no formatting (e.g. post just "ABC123", not "ABC123" or "My code is ABC123, please use it!"), with no spaces before and after your code.

Please do not post your referral code anywhere else on the subreddit.

Thank you!

no fibre

I just moved into a new apartment yesterday and was planning on signing up for Ebox but when I went to it says it only has ADSL available here 😅 can you not just request them to come out to install it? I know fibre is available near me.

I didn't subscribed in time and now i have a better deal

So around 3AM today I was in a rush to get the fibre 1Gbits/s for 55$ deal ! Couldn't fill everything before midnight earlier, so I tought, let's try anyway before it goes back to whatever the regular price is. It didn't work and I felt like I failed but after refreshing the page there is now a new deal: 1Gbits/s for 50$ !
I would have been so pissed to suscribe yesterday only to discover I will pay 5$ per month extra.

Not reliable-DSL Internet

I switched from Teksavvy to Ebox back in November. We would have outages every now and then but last few years it's been rare. My area still does not have Fiber.. choose dsl with a slower connection because of how flaky Rogers cable has been with friends in the area. It has gotten better past year or so. This is the third outage once again no transparency on their website nothing on Bell.. I called.. the humans atleast are good but just lack of info no timeline.. just be patient.. might take 24 hours or up to 48 hours.. it's a holiday tomorrow ... Would have been great to enjoy the games with the family instead I'm streaming on my laptop. I am going to review options as we have multiple people working from home relying on Ebox does not seem feasible. The added complexity of traffic being routed to Quebec adds another layer if you are in Ontario. Ebox you need to do better on transparency.

What do I do with a Nokia b3.1 from Ebox?

I ordered 500mbps 2 days ago and I got the Nokia b3.1 delivered today. I tried to look for a place on the Nokia to attach the fiber cable, but it only has WAN/LAN ports and a power cable. I had bell WIFI before which used fiber, I'm not sure if they would still need to access electrical unit.

Signed up via megathread link for 40$/month but they charged me for 55$??

Hi all,

I used the sign up promo code link in the megathread for 40$ per month for 400mb/s, It seemed to work (im in quebec) and I went through the purchase process. THe website said 40$ when I was signing up for the plan. But when I got to the payment, it said 63$.
I proceeded thinking there we're some extra sign up charges, but when I completed the process and got the confirmation, it says my plan is 55$ + tax.

I feel like I've been scammed, i will be calling them tommorow but I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same experience or if I did something wrong in the process?

The worst experience I’ve ever had with an internet provider

I signed up for Ebox last week, and the experience has been a total disaster.

On Wednesday, a Bell technician came to install my internet. Everything was working great... until the very next morning. I woke up to no internet, with the alarm light lit up red on my ONT.

So I called Ebox, and after some troubleshooting, the rep told me they couldn't fix the issue remotely but promised to send a technician by the end of the day. No one showed up.

I called back, and the company apologized, and said the appointment had been cancelled for an unspecified reason. They rescheduled me for the following day.

The next morning, I called to confirm the appointment. The rep assured me it was in their system and that a technician would arrive. Once again, no one showed up.

I called a third time. The first representative hung up on me. When I called back, another rep explained that while the appointment existed in Ebox's system, it had never actually been scheduled in Bell's system. They booked me a third appointment for this morning.

Hoping to avoid another wasted day, I proactively called Ebox again this morning and specifically asked their rep to verify the appointment was confirmed with Bell. The representative told me Bell had already confirmed it in their system and assured me the technician would be there this morning.

Did anyone show up? Of course not.

I'm now three days without internet and have zero confidence this will be resolved anytime soon. I've already filed a complaint with the CCTS, and it's been accepted. At this point, I don’t think I have any other option but to cancel the service altogether.

This company must’ve set a new record as to the level of incompetence humans can achieve.

If you’re in Ontario and considering switching because they offer a lower price, just don’t do it. Not worth the frustration.

Can't enable IPv6 in WAN services - all settings are disabled

Seems that they are received via TR-069 (?). Using the default Nokia for now.

Thinking of switching

I’m moving next week and been considering switching to Ebox but it looks like the prices just went up and there’s not much for promos at the moment. Any tips? Should I hold off or does customer service have more options? Thanks

Problem with ebox Install

Bell tech came to my house yesterday to install but after reviewing he said they need to send another tech to wire the fiber from down the street to my house. Now ebox is saying they can’t confirm which day this will happen or if it’ll be days or weeks till sorted out.

I won’t have internet in a couple days so I’m wondering if I should just cancel since they won’t confirm an install date.

Has anyone had this happen to them?
