Horrible Steam downloads

Since I moved to Ebox my Steam downloads are super untestable, they always start with 890Mbps and after 2 minutes goes to a STABLE 20 Mbps or even lower.

I'm the only one ?

Stability is TERRIBLE

Hey all. Had Ebox installed on Tuesday. It’s a 2nd physical line, I have Bell as my primary line.

This Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber typically runs my Bell 8 gig line. I wanted to test some IPV6 stuff with Ebox as Bell doesn’t have IPV6 for residential customers.

Bell is on a different device now. For context, this graph is for an Ebox connection, logged in with PPPoE and VLAN 40 tagged to it. It works. But, this is the behaviour I’ve seen EVERY NIGHT from 11 PM - 9:30 AM. Until today. Today it’s been even wilder (note the notification at the top from the Unifi app- it keeps disconnecting)

But to give a little more context. This same Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber runs my Bell connection normally and never ever disconnects. In fact, it holds at 2ms latency. The device works- but the best part:

There’s ONE other device connected to Ebox outside of this UCG Fiber. And it’s an Xbox Series X. And it’s powered off (not even in standby)

It’s not the light level of the fibre cable as I’m constantly getting -13 dbm which is well within spec.

So either Bell is throttling it at the data centre level, or Ebox is just BAD. Also, it’s showing the location as Ottawa currently. It seems to hop between Toronto & Ottawa. I’m north of the GTA.

Can somebody from Ebox tell me what’s happening here? I did a bunch of videos on YouTube about Bell Fibre To The Home and thought this could be a good alternative. Not paid to make those videos, so I’m unbiased.

Anyway, if anybody has an idea that’s not related to my home configuration (it’s completely ruled out that it’s my end) - please give some insight, because this isn’t acceptable at all. Even Rogers Cable isn’t this bad in less than ideal conditions.

Thanks.

Edit: I was on the phone with a level 2 tech about getting a different IPV6 prefix and also mentioned this latency issue. He told me they do maintenance on the weekends and it shouldn’t happen during the week at all. Now whether or not there’s some embellishment there I can’t speak to- but this isn’t acceptable for ANYBODY paying money for what’s supposed to be an “always on” connection - not even mentioning a fibre to the home connection at that.

No more TV?

Two months ago I registered and got internet with eBox. I decided to decline TV for now, just planning to add it later.

Now I realize I can't add it in web profile and also it disappeared from website?

Are they killing the service so Bell scoops everything?

Do they still unblock tv service if I call?

Thanks.

EBOX refuses to tell me whether their credit check is hard or soft — unless I call them

I’m looking at switching internet providers and was considering EBOX. During the sign-up process, they apparently require a credit check, so before applying I emailed them with what I thought was a very straightforward question:

Is the credit check EBOX performs on new customers a hard inquiry or a soft inquiry?

I specifically wanted the answer in writing before consenting to a credit check.

Their response was that, “for security reasons and to protect your personal information,” I had to call their customer service department.

The problem is: I’m not even an EBOX customer. I don’t have an account with them, and I’m not asking them to disclose any personal information whatsoever. I’m asking about their general policy for prospective customers.

So I wrote back explaining exactly that and asked them again to simply confirm whether their credit check is hard or soft.

They responded saying they were “unable to provide this information via email, even if you are not yet a customer.”

At that point I asked them to either:

  • explain what security/privacy concern prevents them from answering a general question about their credit-check policy;
  • point me to the written policy or terms where the type of credit inquiry is disclosed; or
  • escalate the matter to a supervisor who could answer the question.

Their response?

They sent me essentially the exact same canned response again and did not address the question or my request for escalation.

I genuinely don’t understand this.

Whether a company performs a hard or soft credit inquiry is something a prospective customer should be able to find out before consenting to the credit check. I’m deliberately asking for it by email because I want a written record of what I’m being told.

I’m not asking them to tell me my credit score. I’m not asking about an existing account. I’m not asking for anyone’s personal information.

I’m literally asking:

“When EBOX checks a new applicant’s credit, is it a hard inquiry or a soft inquiry?”

Has anyone here signed up with EBOX recently and knows which one they actually do?

And am I missing something here? Is there any legitimate reason an ISP would refuse to answer this in writing?

ipv6 issues

Hi,

I would like to know if I'm the only one with ipv6 issues over ebox?

Many websites like microsoft.com and hydroquebec.com do not load.

These websites do ping in v6 but for some reason they do not load properly in my browser ; which is true on windows, linux and every browser I have tried.

MTU has been adjusted to a lower value (1432) without any result.

Anybody else has this issue?

Edit :

I think I have found what's going on and it seems to be an issue with opnsense. On the WAN interface, set the MTU and (most importantly) the MSS to 1492.

Changing from bell fibe to ebox

Looking for someone to answer some questions as customer service isn’t quite clear!!

Has anyone switched from bell fibe to ebox? I have a pre-existing bell fibe line and I’m wondering if ebox can use this fibe line instead of drilling another hole into this apartment!!?

I got my ebox kit, and it has an Ethernet cord, does this cord go into an outlet? I literally only have regular outlets no Ethernet or coaxial cable outlets?

Please help!!

Ebox internet problem

I ordered Internet service from eBox, but the installation has been repeatedly delayed because of an issue involving tree branches in my backyard.
When the Bell technician came to my property for the installation, he explained that the tree branches were interfering with the cable and that the installation could not be completed until the branches were removed. I was told that Bell would arrange for the necessary tree trimming.
The tree-trimming company eventually came to my property and removed the branches. Last Friday, a Bell representative also came to my backyard, took pictures, and confirmed that the tree branch issue had been resolved.
However, when I contacted eBox again today, I was told that the issue is still showing in Bell’s system as unresolved. As a result, eBox is unable to schedule a new installation appointment.
This is very frustrating because the physical problem has already been resolved, but the information between Bell and eBox has apparently not been updated or communicated properly.

eBox told me that they have contacted Bell and are now waiting for Bell to confirm the issue. However, I’ve already been waiting for 10 days.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with eBox?

Just moved from oxio to ebox and regretting it, coverage has been crap, looking for new router recommendations

I was on an ancient Oxio plan for like 60mbps and it worked just fine, but as I was just moving to a new place I realized it was insanely overpriced compared to what’s available out there

So I decided to go with ebox and get fibre, might as well right?

Well it’s been a week and Ebox has significantly underperformed; my new place is only 1 room bigger and yet I cannot for the life of me get good signal in the living room (which is opposite to the office where the router lives), my smart TV doesnt work properly anymore, and I hate it

Option 1 is switching providers again and going to Fizz (I don’t like dealing with contracts with the big players) but I work from home and would like to not have to deal with the downtime

So I guess option 2 is buying a new router, which is what im here looking for recommendations for

I’m also not super IT savvy so I’m wondering how hard it is to switch to a new router, is it DIY-able for a girl with very little interest in this side of tech?

thanks in advance!

EBOX refuses to send tech and insteall because our unit number isn't updated by Canada Post yet....what to do??

As the title says, apparently EBOX strictly follows CP addresses and even though I've told EBOX that CP has updated from civic side and just it will take 6-12 weeks publically, they refuse to send a tech! Anything that can be done for this??

Beacon 3.1 vs. Compatible Routers

Having eBox 1gig service connected next week. Getting the Beacon 3.1 but concerned with coverage for a 3-level, 3000 sq. ft. home. Do ya'll think the Beacon is good enough or know of any other routers that will work with ebox's service? Recommendations accepted. Thank you!

Free Bell router upgrade... Scam???

I got a robocall this morning, saying that since I'm a Bell subscriber (I'm actually with EBOX) I'll be getting a free "new-and-improved" faster fibre router; Press 1 to start the process. This spiked my "BS meter" and I hung up. I assume scammers are trying to get people to "confirm their subscriber details" to facilitate identity theft.
