Ambient Noise Experiment w/ no V/O

Another jam with no v/o. This one didn't work, but some of the sounds and methods were interesting, and it was fun.

Volt per octave multiple trouble :'(

Hello!

I recently bought a Modulaire Maritime Sindikat (Modulaire Maritime Sindikat - Eurorack Module on ModularGrid), and I was really excited to use the buffered mult as a way to send v/8 information to multiple oscillators. Unfortunately, the pitch drops about a half step going through the buffered mult.

My understanding is that this would happen with a passive mult, but not with a buffered mult. Am I not understanding this correctly? Or is my unit not working properly?

If a regular buffered mult is not able to accurately duplicate v/8 signals, do you have any recommendations of what can? Preferably small hp!

Thank you!

What are your favorite modules for drum processing/mangling?

Loving data bender, koszalin and sometimes morphagene (although not my go to for this use)

Any you guys dig for coloration, glitch, stretchiness, etc?? 🤓

Xformer 0.7.9 Beta

Since i tend to work on this for long stretches of time until I pass out here is a whole lot to chew and experiment.

New track engines:

Stochastic track - proper 64-step microtonal, polyrithmic evolving SIG/Melodicer.

PhaseFlux - ioLabs Flux inspired phase based warping 256 step IDM monster.

Fractal - 2 sources CV/Gate recorder with branching and ornamentation not unlike Bloom 2 with proper editing surface.

And stuff. Since it is more then was in Xformer 0.6.0 - feedback and github issues are much appreciated.

Cheers!

Xformer 0.7.9 Beta

!! Breaking changes - 0.6.0 projects won't load

  • 3.5 new track types: Stochastic, Fractal, PhaseFlux, TT-Mini
  • Full 8 scripts + Metro and Init T9type rewritten mostly to C++

More "old school" dark ambient modular

More "old school" dark ambient. Rolled my own vhikk from scratch with two wavetable vcos into harmonic mixer, 26 LP filters into some effects I've been tinkering with for the drone. Bass is analog vcos into pedals into LPG.

A Proper Modular Commodore 64 Synthesizer

I am a sucker for chip based/inspired instruments, so had to give the ZetaSID from Midiphy a try. It's a Eurorack reimagining of the C64's sound with some cool features. Worth a look if you're into that kind of thing...

Anyone using the JoLiN KRONO as a drum sequencer replacement? The jumper trick changes everything

The JoLiN KRONO wasn't designed as a full drum machine replacement — it started as a compact 4HP clock/sequencer. But the internal routing options ended up being surprisingly close to a standalone rhythm box.

The key is how you can chain and divide the outputs to drive multiple voices simultaneously — bypassing the need for a separate sequencer entirely.

Made a full breakdown if anyone's curious:

Has anyone else explored this module this way?

DIY Build IDC Placement

Hey,

I'm building my first Eurorack and got this DIY module, the 4024 sub oscillator, off of guru Gara synth. When I went to go solder the power connector, I (think I) realized that the pin numbers seemed to be incorrect and should be flipped onto the other side. Am I being dumb or is this correct?

If anyone with electrical experience or has this specific module could help me out I'd be greatly appreciative 🙏

Module tips for a noob

Hi, everyone! This is my second crack at Eurocrack, and I'd like to get more serious. Can I ask what modules you would choose for the following task?

I don't have space for an eighth keyboard synth, so would like something where I can use an external synth to play a pad that creates evolving scattered note aftereffects, using different modes that respond to the chord I'm holding down... say I have something in F major, and I would like to tell the modules to create harmonies within preset parameters, and have the notes staggered and randomized as I change the initial chord.

I Googled it, got the following results, and would like your views on whether these should be the modules, or if you have others in mind? (Probably excluding the first part, as I can handle the initial chords myself)

Thanks very much!

---

  1. The Harmonic Brain (Chord/Root Generation)

This module determines the fundamental harmony and outputs both the raw notes for your chord and CV representations of the key/scale. [1]

  1. The Translator (CV Processing & Scale Mapping)

To get after-effects that correspond to different musical modes (e.g., Dorian or Lydian), you must transform the voltages coming from your chord brain. Passing these voltages through logic and offset modules allows you to map them to specific modes.

  • Module: Ornament & Crime (running the Hemisphere Suite firmware).
  • Function: Use the CopierMaschine or ChangeInterval applets to take the incoming root note of your chord and offset it to play a parallel mode. For example, if you play an A-minor chord, this module scales an incoming melody into the Aeolian or Dorian mode that logically aligns with the chord. [1]
  1. Harmonic After-Effect Generators

These modules consume the processed CV to create the modal effects, such as arpeggios, tuned delays, or harmonic drones. [1, 2, 3]

  • Modules: Intellijel Shifty (for expanding the chord tones) or Qu-Bit Data Bender (for textural delay trails).
  • Function: As the root and quality CV changes, the after-effects module automatically shifts its pitch sets and delay times to stay locked to the "in-key" modes. [1]

Korg NTS-1 MKII Eurorack Conversion Kit

Hey all, shared this over on modwiggler but figured I'd post it here too. Some of you might remember the NTS-1 and NTS-2 kits I made a while back to get those little Korgs into my rack. I never stopped reaching for the NTS-1 over my "real" effects modules tbh, so when Korg dropped the MKII I knew I had to make one for it too.

Thing is the MKII changed shape so my old design didn't fit anymore, which meant starting basically from scratch. This time I teamed up with Alessandro from SPAD Electronics to handle the electrical side and it made a massive difference. The new form factor is tight so we ended up doing a double-stacked PCB to fit everything cleanly into 26HP.

Same plug and play idea as before - TRS cables and USB-C into the unit, screw on the faceplate, plug into the labeled ports on the PCB and run the 16 pin straight to your busboard. No soldering or wiring anything.

A few things I'm pretty stoked on this round:

Amped L/R in and out at eurorack levels and the left sums to mono automatically if you only patch one side

Actual volume pot on the front for the output - this was the #1 thing people asked for since the NTS-1 volume dial ends up buried in the back of your rack haha

Front facing USB-C for data so you can update firmware, load oscillators or use Librarian without pulling the unit out

Buffered multiples up top, 1 in and 3 identical out

All the MKII ports brought to the front too - MIDI in/out and sync in/out

The noise isolator is built right into the board now instead of hanging off a cable like the first one

Still 26HP so yeah, definitely one for the folks with a big rack and some space to spare haha. Small batch is live under ISOGRID - happy to answer anything in the meantime!

Cheers all

FMR RNLA vs OTO BOUM to glue a Techno live set mix (TR-8S + Eurorack + Yamaha MG12)?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to add an analog bus compressor/processor at the end of my chain to glue my Techno mix and finally make my hardware setup sound like a cohesive, massive wall of sound.

I'm currently torn between the FMR Audio RNLA and the OTO Machines BOUM (two very different philosophies). I'd love to get your insights based on my current routing and workflow.

My Starting Situation / Setup:

  • Drums: Roland TR-8S (all my drums come from here).
  • Synths & Textures: I have a huge Eurorack case packed with VCOs, FX modules, noise generators, etc. (https://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid\_2929670.jpg)
  • Upstream Sidechain: I already use an Expert Sleepers Disting mk4 module (in stereo sidechain mode) triggered by my TR-8S kick to carve out space in the Eurorack every time the kick hits (production sidechain to keep the low-end clean).
  • Mixer: Everything sums into a Yamaha MG12 console and a kaos pad 3 for dj style end of the chain filtering

My Questions:

  1. RNLA or BOUM for this specific goal? The RNLA brings that classic smooth leveling and warmth, while the BOUM offers analog distortion and a high-cut filter that seems perfect for sealing noise and aggressive percussions together.
  2. Kick Management: I know that compressing the kick on the master bus alongside everything else can kill the transients or cause uncontrolled pumping. Looking at the BOUM manual, I noticed its Lo Cut filter is placed after the compressor stage. Therefore, is it better to use Group 1-2 on my mixer to compress/saturate the entire mix (percs, noise, leads) except the kick, and then mix that compressed block with the clean kick directly on the ST Master?
  3. Stacking Sidechains: If I go the BOUM-on-a-subgroup route, should I keep running my surgical sidechain upstream via the Disting mk4 on the Eurorack? Would the BOUM’s rear Sidechain Input even be useful in this scenario?

My ultimate goal is to achieve that "record-ready", organic, and heavy glue typical of hardware live acts without losing the transient punch of my TR-8S.

If any of you are running either of these machines on your master or subgroups with a big modular setup, I’d love to hear your feedback!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Finally decided to take the plunge into Eurorack as a birthday gift to myself. Designed a rack to be percussion and FX focused to supplement my existing collection of semi-modular gear. Have any initial thoughts?
