F150 5.4L troubles

recently bought an 06 f150 5.4L triton and have already learned more than I could ever want to know about these things and yet I’m still stumped. I’m hoping someone has experienced similar problems and was able to solve it so they can guide me.

Okay so I bought it from a guy who apparently buys these model trucks after the timing components tear up and does the timing job and resells them. Well he told me this one had just been through the whole timing job but I only made it about 10 miles down the road and lost all oil pressure and had a terrible knocking so I towed it back to him and he said he would redo it for free. So I ordered cast iron replacement parts (timing guides, tensioners, new solenoids) and he allegedly used these when he redid the timing on it. Anyway, I get the truck back like two weeks later and the guy says “it’ll idle rough for the first 100 miles until the Idle pos. Sensor calibrates” and after some driving it cleared up a little but still didn’t clear up like it should have. So I figured since the catalytic converters had been removed along with both downstream o2 sensors, that and the significant exhaust leak at the flange where the manifold meets the exhaust pipe was most likely causing the sputtering until I ran the codes and it’s saying it’s the bank 2 camshaft sensors. I’ve tried the alternator trick, checked the VCT solenoid for debris, and currently have the driver side valve cover off and as far as I can tell it all looks normal? So I thought maybe a vacuum leak but I can’t hear well enough to find it over the massive exhaust leak. Any suggestions?

GMT800 or 2020 3.5 lariat

I am on the fence of upgrading my truck. My 2002 gmt 800 still runs solid but was salvaged after theft. It holds 292k miles. I am the second owner as it was passed down by father in law. It occasionally doesn’t want to shift into reverse. Ac still blows cold and hot.
The only thing wrong with my gmt-800 is that it will no longer pass smog due to bad cats. I unfortunately live in California so I have been paying 575 to pass smog on the DL. The other day the truck almost overheated during a hot 112 day.
Should I keep it or upgrade?
I’ve been looking at a 3.5 lariat with 59k miles. I plan on buying the warranty through car max as I’ve heard about cam phaser issues. I do plan on doing religious maintenance as I’ve heard when taken care of you can easily get 250k miles or more out of these trucks.

What’s that sound?

It’s everybody’s favorite game! This grinding sound on a 2016 XLT 2.6 ecoboost. Sounds like it’s coming from the passenger side. It happens intermittently, usually while driving at low speeds or just coasting.

Took on the dreaded exhaust manifold replacement

So I’ve had this 2013 3.5 ecoboost limited f150 for about a year now and I swear I’ve put more money into this thing than any other car I’ve owned. I’d say I’m mildly mechanically inclined, but I just moved to a new city and don’t have anywhere to do car maintenance besides the side of the road. Blew the exhaust manifold gasket towing driving out here. Took my 4 days to take both manifolds off and put the new ones on. I buttoned it all up to spec what I was supposed to. Ended up braking one of the coolant lines that runs to the turbos. Those metal lines just were a pain in the ass.

Just at a loss here. Anyone else have the same experience? I don’t want to give up the truck cause you don’t find too many limited out there anymore and it’s in decent shape. Figured you guys would get a kick out of some of the parts I pulled out. What some of the studs looked like and how the bolt hole on that manifold basically wore away. I hadn’t seen that before.

coolant line o ring fitment?

Im kind of in a pinch I cant get oem o rings for the coolant line at this time due to time constraints. I have this o ring kit of viton o rings which are the same material but the one in the kit is just about a hair thinner than the one on the line you can barely notice it? has anyone ever had something like this and is it possible that the o ring from my kit wont leak im a little worried about the fitment.

ford ecoboost 2.3 and the line is a coolant line on the turbo

Im looking at buying this 2019 3.5L with 100k km (65000 miles).

Looking for anyone who has an F150 in this generation who doesn't have a horror story to share.

If you have one and havent any major issues with it, let me know here.

Tired of reading all the negative posts about the cam phasers and transmission.

My F150 STINKS! 🤢

After seeing so many F150 and Lightning owners complain about that awful musty AC smell I decided to find the REAL cause and fix it.

Changing the cabin filter didn’t do it. So I went straight to the evaporator with Kool-It and the results were pretty incredible! 🤯

If your F150 has that funky AC smell this one might save you some frustration 👇

5.0 knock

Can anyone identify this knock, I just bought my 2011 f-150 5.0, while driving it I got a low oils pressure light witch didn’t bother me i was over my oil change and I thought maybe that’s why I got the low oils pressure light so I parked it then the next day I started it to see if the light was still there and that’s when I started to hear the knock, I changed the oil and started it again to see if it still made the noise and it did, I’m not leaking any oil anywhere I just need this identified so I can fix

FML

Not what I wanted to see after dropping the oil pan to inspect my pickup tube on my search for my low oil pressure alert issue. All of it but 2 pieces seem to be aluminum.

Exhaust? Header?

This is my first truck, never been super mechanically inclined but I can google enough I suppose. This sound randomly came on after driving completely normal for a good 20-30 mins. When cruising at a decently high speed it doesn’t make noise but any bit of acceleration causes it to get loud. Only have 80k miles on it. It’s a 2018, trying to be a cheap ass and save 200$ on a diagnostics fee, any ideas? Sounds like it’s coming from the engine area, no check engine light though

Question about temperature

I have a question. I’m still learning my new to me truck. 2020 f150 platinum 3.5 eco boost. 78k miles. Just purchased last Thursday from a ford dealership and it is blue certified. I don’t have any check engine light on and I haven’t had time to check for any stored codes but I notice that when I’m on the interstate cruising at 70 mph, (not pulling any trailers) my water temp goes up to 235 after a little while and then it goes down. ( running in normal mode ) A few minutes later it will go back up to 235 and goes back down again I figure it’s just the shutters opening and closing and it does not run that high of a temp in city driving but I do hear my fans running hard. Are any of your trucks with this engine doing this? Do I have an issue or is this normal for these trucks? Thank you so much for your suggestions. —

What does your 360 camera look like?

Curious to see what other people’s camera stitching looks like. My 21’ lariat 502A. It’s hard to tell what camera is correct but I know for sure if I back into a spot the rear camera is correct. Does your guys’ side look like mine?

Shutter feel on highway

2016 - F150 - ecoboost - 4x4 - 4 inch lift (dealer installed before I bought truck new) 124,000 miles. When I'm on highway - feel a vibration or shudder - it's off and on - but seems to be getting worse - like running over a series of small ridges or rumble strips - pretty sure it's suspension. Looking for guidance on where to start looking - diagnosing what's wrong -

2025 F150 Howl

Hey guys, first post here. As the title says, I have a 2025 F150 XLT with the 2.7 Ecoboost and it's 4x4. It has 10k miles on it and has already had the rear differential rebuilt by a dealer in Sarasota. It originally had a vibration at 40 to 50 mph that started at around 2,000 miles and was accompanied by a howl on deceleration. The vibration and howl went away at higher speeds and came back around 75 mph. The dealer rebuilt the rear differential and the vibration went away, but the howl remained. 1,000 miles later the vibration returned and I took it back to the dealer in Sarasota. They rebuilt the entire rear axle, new differential carrier, ring and pinion, and axle bearings. Howl and vibration were still present afterwards and they told me itis just a normal characteristic of the truck. Drove it for another 600 miles before I got tired of it and took it to another dealer in Tampa, where they rotated and balanced the tires and ended up replacing one because it couldnt be road force balanced because it was so bad. Got the truck back yesterday and the vibration is completely gone at all speeds, however there is still a slight howling noise with a slight growling feeling coming from the steering wheel between 45 and 50 mph. Does anyone else's 2.7 4x4 do this??? It can't be normal, right?

Hardwire Viofo A329S Dashcam

I have a 2026 Powerboost and I’m wondering what methods people are using to hardwire dash cams? I have their hardwire kit but I’m reading that there isn’t room to use the fuse taps. Is that true?
