One Big Complaint About This Otherwise Good Game

Why, oh WHY does it take ten chapters for me to be able to freely swap Crystarium roles and my battle lineup? Just got to the Ark (first time playing through it fully after years of being unable to - damn the first chapters just drag) and now it decides to open something up that is typically opened up in earlier games after the first few hours?

It's a pretty good game once the story gets rolling but it takes way too long for it to truly open up.

Why do people not play Lightning Returns?

Really just title. I see so many people say they played the first two, but never got around to Lightning Returns and I'm wondering why.

I understand people who just stopped after the first one, either because they hated it or thought it was a great ending, but for people who played XIII-2 almost everyone I've spoken to tells me that they liked it better (I'm in the minority I think in preferring the first game).

So if XIII-2 was generally well liked, why wouldn't people play the next game? XIII-2 isn't like the first game which could have ended the story as a standalone, it is very much a "Oh shit, it's about to get real" kind of ending with no conclusion at all, so it's strange to me that people who liked the game wouldn't want to finish the story.

I thought about asking this in the main sub but I didn't want to deal with all the inevitable "XIII sucks" comments.

I love how they made the mother not the mom archetype

I enjoyed her while she lasted, but it’s refreshing to see a mom in jrpg not in the traditional kind mom who dies, but she rocks a gun and has an iconic line and the moment she dies she dies heroically. I know it’s a little thing but quite refreshing

Which version is this cover art ?

Which version is this cover art ?

I found this online and I'm confused , it looks like it's the japanese region but I checked and the japanese region cover is the minimalist logo/title,

I tried googling it but I couldn't find any solid answer.

Is my PS3 copy legit?

1st pic is my copy. 2nd pic is from an unboxing video online.

For mine the holo is even across the front, spine, and back. But the one in the video has the holo on Lightning’s body and the logo foreground only.

So was there ever a way to fix the timeline without ending the world?

What exactly was the "final paradox" Mog mentioned at the end? Killing Caius? Stabbing the Heart?

The whole point of the quest was to restore the timeline while the goddess went comatose maintaining the Gate of Etro to keep the Chaos from flooding the world. She made Lightning her champion to guard her body in Valhalla from Caius, who was there trying to kill her in her sleep as one of his plans. She also blessed Serah and Noel to allow them through the gates so that they could resolve the paradoxes. They seemingly do this perfectly right up to the very last paradox. The timeline even **is** restored. There's a brief moment before the goddess finally dies and chaos is released where the timeline was back to what it should be. Theoretically there would've been a beautiful age of ascendant humanity ahead.

Was there ever a way to restore the timeline *without* killing the goddess?

Anyone else have the issue of their Sentinel team mate becoming very stoopid whenever there's a boss fight? My poor dummy loves getting needlessly hurt

Square Enix kind of has to remaster the trilogy now

The fact that Sony is discontinuing the process & manufacture of physical disk based games in January 2028 makes this all the more of a pressing matter now. Sure, I own FF13 on PS3 physically, but I don’t own a PS3 anymore. FF 13-2 I own digitally on Series S but I want to own it physically (personal favorite of the trilogy). Lightning Returns I never got a chance to play & would like to with a proper re-release. FF13 is the only mainline final fantasy without an official port to modern PlayStation systems. If Square Enix doesn’t announce anything soon, one day we could end up with a remastered trilogy that’s digital only. This applies to XIII because a remaster is a new, updated master copy of the original media (audio, visual, digital). That scares me. I personally want to hold the game in my hands, pop the disk(s) in, & enjoy it. I love these games a lot (mainly XIII & XIII-2) just like many of you all & I want to see it done justice. Square Enix please…remake, remaster, a simple port, it doesn’t matter. We have 1 & 1/2 years left. Time is running out…

Im not enjoying Lightning Returns

Hi guys.

Hope I dont get judged here.

I just have an amazing experience with ffxiii and specially with ffxiii2 (this one is a masterpiece to me). Just for a context, I've played all three titles back on their release date, ffxiii2 and lightning returns were the ones I didn't finished. So recently I started all trilogy again.

Im actually trying to play lightning returns and omg... the time system is so anoying. The side quest system is awful. The battle system its ok, but nothing compared to the second game.

It might be a skill issue and I don't care. But the time manegement its really difficult for me. I don't know where I have to go, dont know when its the right time to explore.

I really wanted to finish all three games.

Do you guys have any tips, or recomendations?

Thank you.

Which best describes you? (On clock puzzles and math)

Got curious if there’s some kind of connection between the love for clock puzzles and math.

Eta: So the distribution turned out to be fairly equal (at the time of this edit). Also, heeey fellow clock puzzle enjoyers! 💪
