Current savings as a 28yrs old

I’m 28 years old, unemployed, and still living with my parents. However, I do have a side hustle, and I’ve managed to save ₱1.7 million. Honestly, I’m fortunate because I’m not a breadwinner, and my parents have never asked me for money. I’m very thankful for that because they really instilled in me the value of saving.

Sometimes, though, I feel like I’m saving too much and not enjoying my money enough. Whenever I think about spending or buying something, seeing my bank account balance go down breaks my heart.

Is there anyone else here who’s overly focused on saving, or is it just me? My dream is to save at least ₱5 million for retirement, emergencies, and my future, so that I won’t have to rely on or burden my relatives if something unexpected happens. And i don’t care if hindi bago yung mga gamit or i dont have the latest gadget just as long as i know i have this amount in my bank account I don’t envy them.

Is ₱6,000 a month enough for a college student living alone?

For context, my parents give me ₱6,000 a month for everything. I live alone in a dorm and honestly I don’t know if I’m bad at managing money or if my allowance is just not enough.

These are my fixed expenses every month:
₱400 — mobile data (no Wi-Fi sa dorm and I need it for school purposes din)
₱1,760 — tric fare from dorm to campus and vice versa (22 school days)
₱800 — bus and tric fare from dorm to our house and vice versa (4 weekends)
Total: ₱2,960

₱6,000 - ₱2,960 = ₱3,040 left
₱3,040 ÷ 30 days = ₱101.33 per day

How am I supposed to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with ₱101 a day? 😭
Most mornings I’m already on campus so I usually end up buying lunch at school. I can’t really meal prep because I don’t have a refrigerator in my dorm. Even if I cook at night and bring food the next day, it could easily spoil because of the heat.

The worst part is that I’m an architecture student. I buy my own materials, printing, plates, model supplies, and other requirements. None of those are included in the computation above.

It feels like my allowance barely covers transportation and leaves almost nothing for food. Academic expenses make it even harder.

And I know this might sound super kapal ng mukha, but if anyone wants to donate spare art materials, papers, or even a little financial help, I would be incredibly grateful. I know there are people in much harder situations than mine and I’m not claiming to have it the worst. I just hope someone understands where I’m coming from when it feels like even my basic needs and school expenses are hard to cover.

Either way, thank you for reading and for any advice you can give. 🥹

Need help on dividing my salary

Hi! Im a fresh graduate and got my first ever job here in my city. I suck at handling money so im hoping for an advice on how i should divide(?) my salary. Im basically earning php 550 per day and i work 5x/week. Im not renting but I still have financial obligations at home (i.e. internet bills). Im also planning on opening a savings account (do you have any bank recommendations). Anyways, I just want to ask, how many % do you guys separate for your savings, your everyday money, your emergency fund, financial obligations, etc? Do you also set goals, for example, on how much you should save in a year? Pls pls help me

How can I start saving money??

I just want to ask for advice on how can I save money. I just graduated last year and nag-work na rin ako a month before ng graduation ko. Nasa 2nd job ko na ako now, my monthly income is 35k. WFH ako and siguro pumapasok lang me mga 1-2x a month. I think me problem na ‘to. Any tips/advice on how and where can I save money?

4 days after launch, my app now has 114 active users 😭

I just made a simple app that solves my tracking problems, turns out ang dami din pala may need nito. Hoping it will grow so my mom can now come home after 10 years of being an OFW! (this is not a promotion though, use it if you find it helpful!)

Update! The app now has 140 active users - and I still can't believe it! 😭. Thanks for the support!

27F, VA & a 6th year dental student

I am addicted to saving lately. 6 months ko palang ginagawa..Putting 10k and paying myself first. Supporting parent's utilities in the province while I pay for all my expenses. 5 years na ko na V.A pero now ko lang to naisip 🤣 Cheers!

should i pay my debt using my savings?

I'm Kelvin 28[M], I earn a provincial rate wage only, roughly yung net ko is around 12,400 monthly.

I have a savings amounting to around 152k
Also, I have some little holdings sa crypto around 14k

Kailangan ko po ng advice if dapat ko bang bawasan yung savings ko pangbayad sa loan ko? the lower the balance kasi, the lower the interest na babayaran ko. Yung catch lang is i don't have any safety net incase of emergency, such as insurance, hmo's, etc. Ang meron lang ako is Philhealth and St. Peter XD

Please enlighten me with your financial knowledge. 😄

Monthly pay na para bang savings ko na before I got to earn this much money

30M, 10 YOE as an ex-software engineer for a US Big Tech firm. Now, I work as a dev for a US startup that pays me this much money.

I came from a dirt poor family, pero that didn’t stop me from being successful. I think plus pa nga kapag galing sa hirap because you have no other way but to persist, strive, and succeed. I thank my parents because sa private school nila ako pinag-aral kahit halos mabaon sila sa utang dati. Tumulong rin ang mga titos and titas ko from abroad na mag-paaral sakin hanggang college. Salamat po sa inyong lahat na tumulong. It really takes a village to raise a kid.

I forgive pero i don’t forget.

Anyways sorry sa long sad story ko. I started earning 30k per month noong 2016. Tapos naging 60k noong 2019, then 120k in 2022. Then job hopped again in 2023 to earn 260k. Then last year, I crossed the 500k gross monthly income. I only worked 1 job at a time my entire career. This helped me focus on improving my dev skills. Even before the AI boom sobrang sipag ko magbasa ng docs and apply them to work projects.

I need your advice mga ate and kuya. How do you effectively budget weekly paycheck?

About me, I am a Part-time Violin teacher and a College student. I receive my paycheck weekly.

Here's my system:

  1. Maribank = weekly payroll
  2. Union Bank = Emergency Fund (personal savings account na walang maintaining balance)
  3. GoTyme = for my sinking funds and expenses (kasi pwedeng mag multiple savings account)
  4. BPI account = planning for Insurance Policy or investing

Current Sinking Funds (according to prio):

  1. Puppy vaccines (will rehome them soon)
  2. My 2 Shih Tzu's Yearly Vaccines
  3. Female Shih Tzu Spay Next year Preparation
  4. New Violin (kasi sumusuko na yung violin ko)

Current Weekly Needs na binibili ko:

  1. Dog Food
  2. Weekly allowance ko lang for work (kasi wala na akong pasok sa school)

Emergency Fund (6 months worth of my expenses = ₱150 and dapat ko daw siya mabuo for 4 years):
Ideally ₱3000/month

Kahit one bucket of KFC fries or Monster Coke float ng Mcdonald’s. As for me, I’m going to have my full body massage and eat a nice dinner tonight.

Mga current na pinag iipunan ko as single in his mid30s

So far, eto na pa lang yung ipon ko since January this year. Hoping na mas maging disciplined pa ko na pagkasweldo, magtabi na agad sa stashes ko para out of sight, out of mind. 😅 Kayo, ano mga pinag iipunan niyo this year?

hit my goal amount one month earlier than projected!

Have no one to share this with, and this subreddit has really inspired me to be financially responsible! I made it a goal to reach 220k in savings & investments on or before I turn 22. I still have about a month left before then :D

For context, I have a part-time remote job that I'm able to juggle with my studies. We're not rich, but I'm fortunate enough to still be supported by my family financially (mainly just living expenses since I have a full-ride college scholarship), so I'm able to save most of my earnings while also being able to spend & invest in experiences, especially ones that expand my horizons, put me in situations where I get to meet more people, & just grow in general, which I consider really valuable forms of non-monetary investment, especially as I'm still a young adult & currently building & cultivating the community around me.

I come from a middle-class background, the kind where we have just enough to cover the needs but not so much the wants, and it puts me in this position wherein I'm (truly) fortunate enough to have a roof over my head and be able to eat 3 times a day while still having this burning desire or hunger to dream big and grind for my future 'cause I know I don't have that kind of safety net other people have.

My financial baskets are really all over the place right now and I've yet to nail down my strategy, but I've been really busy with uni lately so currently I've just been trying to stay consistent with my monthly deposits without thinking about it too much to lessen the friction, but when I get more free time this summer I'll be thinking this through more!

Would really appreciate some advice on how I can manage & grow my money better or more efficiently especially for someone my age who's interested in investing long term. Thank you so so much!
