Any interest to play soccer?

Hey guys,

I posted a reddit post a couple months ago with the same title, seeing if anyone wanted to play pickup soccer.

I have gathered a good group, but now we have too many people to play pickup, so I'm trying to create an actual soccer league. The league is focused on keeping the game as cheap as possible ($8/game, i want it cheaper), and I also provide Gatorade, snacks, and actually nice balls. It's 6v6 outdoors.

I am charging people to play, but I'm literally making no profit from this, I've actually lost a decent amount because I had to get insurance to rent fields....

If you're interested in joining the league, either dm me or you can go here and click 'register team' -> https://fxbgsoccerleague.com

Also, if you have no job or really don't have enough money to pay but still want to play, please dm me and we can figure something out. I'm trying to keep this league as community-first as possible.

Cowan Boulevard

Trees and brush are being taken down. Wonder what they are planning to do! I was driving on Cowan, to Central Park and after I passed the bridge, I saw it on my right. Looks only big enough for a store.

Shanks is the worst

Just your daily reminder that Shanks Towing needs to go.

My significant other, who’s deaf, had her car towed from my complex due to her handicap place card not being hung on the rear view mirror. It had fallen and landed directly below onto the dash.

Shanks was useless and would not release the car unless we paid even though the card was clearly in view.

Best parks in area

Specifically, ones for relaxing, sitting out on green space, and people watching. And maybe near a lake, stream, or river. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Deep Run Park in suburban Richmond, but somewhere like that.

Contractor lawyer recommendations?

I have recently been royally screwed by a home improvement contactor that abandoned a partially finished job - only to discover they have been working without a license , without a permit, and causing significant safety hazards along the way.

I have been working OT to try and find a lawyer that can help but it seems everyone either only represents the contractor, or they only do auto VCPA claims. Anyone have any suggestions on who to reach out to? i am at my wits end.

Ant invasion need help

We never paid for any pest control service because we’ve always been able to take care of it ourselves. But with all the rain this summer, ants in our house is getting out of control. I have usually been able to take care of it with Advion gel, but they don’t seem to be dying off like they used to. I’ve been checking out Facebook posts and NextDoor. Who has had experience with Willis Family Pest Control, Helping Hands and PermaTreat? How’s the pricing and responsiveness? Thanks

Are theater screens around here dim, or is it just me?

For roughly the last five years, I've been dissatisfied with the brightness and vibrancy of the projection at both Regal and the mall theater.  At Regal especially, it seems like every movie I've seen on a non-IMAX screen is dim and kinda blueish.  I was occasionally getting better results with the Theater Currently Known As Hooky for a while, but then also had at least one screening of THE MANDALORIAN that felt underlit. Most recently I watched BRAND NEW DAY on one of their oversized "SDX" screens, and noticed a lack of vibrancy in the color right from the Columbia Pictures logo.  I also felt the darkness in certain indoor scenes was overly pronounced.  And when I watched the trailer at home on my Pixel to check, the difference seemed impossible to miss.

Does anyone else have this problem?  I haven't seen any mention of it in online reviews for either, and the people I watch movies with only ever seem to half-acknowledge it, but it drives me nuts.  I know from reading Roger Ebert that theaters used to dim the bulb to save money, but that was in the age of film projection.  I also remember reading somewhere that 3D films require different lenses and if those aren't changed, it affects other movies- is that what's going on? Or is it really just me being impossible to please?

Vehicle of Norfolk resident was logged by Flock 100+ times in 3 days

A Norfolk, Va resident and Navy veteran, Melissa filed a simple FOIA to her city's PD out of curiosity. She wanted to see how often Flock cameras capture her vehicle.

The records she got back show her vehicle was captured and catalogued more than 100 times in a 3-day period. The records have details right down to the very second she was at each location. They include GPS coordinates of every where she was spotted.

As Flock surveillance spreads, Virginia communities push back

Across Virginia, more than 3,000 Flock cameras are estimated to line the highways, roads and parking lots in Virginia.

The AI-powered policing tool has won wide adoption from law enforcement agencies seeking to use high-tech tools to reduce crime. But the rapid growth of 24/7 surveillance has set off waves of protests in Virginia’s small towns and sprawling counties.

One Norfolk woman discovered that Flock cameras recorded her minivan’s trips – capturing her license plate, vehicle features, exact time and location – more than 100 times in just three days in February. She now joins other privacy advocates to regularly lobby city council to cancel its Flock contract.

Reporter Kunle Falayi has documented the spread of Flock Safety systems and other automatic license plate readers throughout Virginia. He’s mapped the locations of ALPR cameras across the commonwealth.

Falayi’s stories have sparked citizen concern and protests. Now, some local elected leaders are paying attention.

I support flock cameras because

They will help stop human trafficking. Drug dealers and criminals will have no place to hide. A kidnapping victim was saved because of flock cameras. I am not a criminal so there is no way a picture of my vehicle can be used against me. If anything, flock cameras give me a reliable alibi should I ever need it.
