Any bars showing World Cup games early morning?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know any bars/pubs that will show World Cup games late at night or early in the morning?

I’m from Croatia and most of our games are at like 5am, 6am and 8am JST, mostly on weekdays.

Would really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Are you concerned about potential overtourism?

I spent three days in Fukuoka earlier and it was a breath of fresh air compared to Osaka. I still had fun in Osaka but the crowds were driving me crazy and Fukuoka having like 1/10th was much more comfortable.

But this made me wonder if the residents are concerned of suffering from overtourism as many people (such as myself) are able to do second trips and focus on other parts of Japan. Fukuoka visitor numbers are rising so I’m wondering if this raises a concern for the residents or if you view it more optimistically.

Any recommendations for a place to relax in Kyushu

Hi,

I'm currently on my three-week trip around Japan. Tomorrow I'm heading to Hiroshima and then towards Beppu. I have two free nights between Hiroshima and Beppu. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place I could go to relax after a long journey? I want the town to be on the way to Beppu and not too touristy. I'd like to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and recharge my batteries. I'm running out of ideas on where to stay. I was thinking about Yufuin but still have not decided :)

Thank you for all recommendations 🙏

Considering moving to Fukuoka

Hi everyone,

For some context: I'm Spanish (34M) and my wife is Japanese. We've been living in Barcelona for the past 3 years, but we're growing increasingly concerned about the current situation here. Between rising insecurity, unrealistic housing prices (€300k-€400k+ for an old 60sqm apartment in inconvenient areas), declining civility (noise, dirty streets), and a serious issue with squatters (we even have friends who have had to deal with squatters in their own buildings), we are seriously considering a change.

Because of all this, we're exploring the idea of moving to Japan. I currently work as a culinary instructor and have several years of experience working in 1 and 3-Michelin-star restaurants, as well as 5-star hotels. If we make the move, my goal would be to open a small cafe business.

I would love some feedback on Fukuoka first of all. Which areas or neighborhoods would you recommend we start looking into?

Financially, I have around €120k in savings to cover my part of a potential mortgage and the initial startup costs for the business. Our target is to buy a house in the 40M–45M JPY range. I've been browsing Suumo and At Home and found some stunningly good prices, but I'm quite lost when it comes to evaluating neighborhoods.

Any advice on family-friendly/business-friendly areas, the housing market, or starting a small food business in Japan would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you!

New structure near Canal City, along the river.

Crossing the bridge yesterday by Yanagibashi market, I saw some structure down the river near Canal City that had a concave shape (like a Pringles chip); anyone know what it is?

Forgotten charger on train

Forgot charger on train!

Hello Reddit!
I forgot my phone charger on the train and its likely to be at the Osaka lost and found.

Unfortunately, i wont have time to go to Osaka to collect.
If anyone is traveling to Fukuoka from Osaka this week, i would be very grateful if you can collect it for me and bring it to me. I’ll happily buy you a beer!

I’ve already contacted the train conductors and basically they said that id have to collect it from Osaka if they find it.

I’ve also already sent a message on their line service for support too.

Anyone in Muromi / Sawara-ku want a tiny coworking spot?

I work remotely from home in the anrea and I'm slowly losing my mind. Cafes are too noisy for calls, I hate riding the train into Tenjin, Salt is awesome, but it’s a bit of a drive… and my kids think 'dad is home' means 'dad is available.' Noise canceling headphones only do so much….

So I've been thinking about renting a small space near Muromi station and turning it into a tiny coworking spot. Nothing fancy. Maybe a few desks (some standing), good wifi, maybe a repurposed old phone booth (if I can get my hands on one), good coffee and snacks. Mostly so I have somewhere to work for myself, but it’d be more fun to open it up to everyone.

Would you actually use this if it existed near Muromi station?

What would make it worth it vs working from home or a cafe? (Quiet, meeting room, community, just not being at home, etc etc

Is there already something like this on this side of the city that I've missed? if so then problem solved.

Just genuinely curious if I’m the only one in this corner of Fukuoka who’d want this. Maybe could even be a cool place for entrepreneurs to network.

Where do you look for jobs?

Hi.

I m really curious where japanese people look for jobs. It seems like LinkedIn is not as popular as it is in europe. We've been looking for someone that speaks both japanese and english for like 2 months now and we don't seem to have much success 🤣

Ps: this is NOT a job offer, I'm just curious what works here.

Bouncee by Rihga Fukuoka Hotel, has anyone heard of it?

I came across the hotel: Bouncee by Rihga Fukuoka Hakata Hotel that seems to be a new one in Fukuoka set to open in September 1st. I don’t seem to find much about the hotel but it has cheap rooms for November. For some reason I find it might be too good to be true. Has anyone heard of it? When I did the Google Maps, I can’t find it yet since the pictures were back from 2024.

I’m sorry for the dumb question but I just want to check with anyone if they have heard of it. I’ve been hearing and seeing quite a few posts about being scammed by hotels which makes me feel extra cautious.

Can 140.000 yen be enough for a student per month?

I wonder if I can live on 140k yen per month as a student in Fukuoka. I plan to get accommodated in a dorm, or a shared flat / private room if is expensive. I can say I don't waste money much. Will I be able to do that?

What's your favourite restaurant/food place recommendation? Big, small, chain, hole in the wall, food stall, just name it!

I'll be visiting Fukuoka for the first time with my husband and 1 year old ( it will be his birthday when we are there!) in November. Ideally they are baby friendly but if not, I can order take away and bring it back to the hotel to eat.

For context I can speak conversational level of japanese and have been to Japan 5+ times. We have no food restrictions and are open to try everything. We'll be staying in Tenjin area but likely to rent a car to go explore outside of the city.

Looking for mentaiko and nabe restaurant recs in particular!.

Thanks in advance!

2nd trip to Japan: any advice on my Kyushu/Okinawa itinerary?

Hey everyone! My husband and I have travelled to Japan 2 years ago where we did mostly Golden route (Tokyo, Hakone, Tsumago/Magome, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka). We are planning our second trip where we want to go to Kyushu and Okinawa. Please give me advice: we have not finalized yet so any advice is welcome!

Time frame: october/november (flexible)

Day 1: land at Narita, transfer to a domestic flight to Fukuoka
Day 2: Explore Fukuoka
Day 3: rent a car and visit daizaifu and/or nanzo-in, stay in Aso or Kurokawa Onsen and use that as our base for the next few days
Day 4: Mount Aso day trip
Day 5: Takichiho Gorge day trip
Day 6: Drive to Beppu, visit the Hells
Day 7: Explore Beppu, chill in onsens
Day 8: Drive to Miyazaki, enjoy the beach views
Day 9: Explore Miyazaki, Aoshima island
Day 10: Drive to Kagoshima partially via the coast, enjoying the drive :)
Day 11: Explore Sakurajima
Day 12: Drive to Kumamoto, maybe via Mount Karakuni? Explore Kumamoto in the evening
Day 13: Drive to Nagasaki via ferry
Day 14: Explore Nagasaki
Day 15: Drive back to Fukuoka, return rental car, get on a flight to Naha, rent a car
Day 16: Explore Okinawa main island
Day 17: Explore Okinawa main island
Day 18: Togashiki and/or Zamami day trip
Day 19: Okinawa chill day or maybe visit anothe island like Kudaka
Day 20: Return flight to Tokyo
Day 21: Visit Disneyland (we visited disneysea last time so wanted to give disneyland a try as well)
Day 22: Return home

About our travel style: we are relatively relaxed travellers and like to just explore. We love driving and enjoying beautiful views and stopping along the way at points of interests, so driving is definitly past of the holiday for us and not a “chore”.

I would love to hear if anything feels to cramped or if you have advice on what I missed. Our schedule is flexible so it is possible to add one or two days. I thought maybe 4 full days Okinawa is too few? But I don’t know. On the internet I’ve read the advice not to spend too much time in Kagoshima or Kumamoto since there is not that much to see/do as a tourist so I incorperated that in my itinerary, but please tell me if I should decide otherwise!

(And lastly, English is not my native language so please be kind to me if I made any mistakes)

WARNING: Do NOT book "Enzo Fukuoka" near the airport

Hey everyone, posting this as a major warning to anyone traveling to Fukuoka soon. Do not book the property called Enzo Fukuoka (located near Fukuoka Airport).

I booked a stay there for May 9th through Agoda. It is a scam. The host’s own listing states a strict check-in window of 17:00 to 22:00 and claims they will send the entry instructions "on the day of arrival."

They completely ghosted us. We were left standing outside with our luggage late at night. The host did not finally transmit the entry codes until 23:35 (11:35 PM), an hour and a half after their own check-in window had closed.

Because we were super tired and thought we had been ghosted, we were forced to abandon the booking and pay out-of-pocket for an emergency room at the APA Hotel Hakata Ekihigashi near Hakata station just to have a safe place to sleep.

When I finally checked their recent Google Reviews, I saw a review from a few months ago stating the exact same thing: calling it a fake/scam hotel that simply never sends the check-in instructions.

A warning about Agoda as well: Agoda is actively protecting this host. Even with chat logs proving the host withheld access until almost midnight, Agoda is refusing a refund. They are using absurd stalling tactics, like demanding I get a "manual official ink stamp" on my digital APA Hotel receipt before they will process anything. I am currently having to force the refund through a Mastercard chargeback.

If you are looking for a place near the airport, skip Enzo Fukuoka. They will leave you stranded on the street, and third-party booking sites will not help you. Stick to established business hotels where there is an actual front desk.

Stay safe out there!

Surf spots in Fukuoaka

Hi I’m here in Fukuoaka for the next week are there any beaches with decent waves for surfing this time of year (late May)? I’m willing to travel up to 90 min one way for a decent spot.

I just went to Futamigaura beach and it was so still it could pass for a lake lol.

If there aren’t just tell it to me straight.

Thinking about studying at Fukuoka YMCA Japanese Language School (福岡ymca日本語 学校) – any experiences?

Hello everyone. I’m planning to study abroad in Japan, so I’m currently looking for a Japanese language school in Fukuoka. Could anyone give me a review of the Fukuoka YMCA Japanese Language School(福岡ymca日本語 学校) in Fukuoka?

How are the teaching quality and facilities there? I would really appreciate reviews from students who are currently studying or have studied at this school.

Thank you everyone!
