Mahatma Gandhi Peace Council of Ottawa Peace Walk
We live in a time of too much bloodshed in too many places, when too often, sorrows flourish and hope withers.
But in the Peace Walk organised by the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Council of Ottawa, I saw people who had made the decision to join hands with one another to nurture hope together: Christians, Jews, and Muslims; Buddhists, Hindus, and Sikhs; people of many faiths and people of none.
I was touched that they invited me to walk with them, and to address the gathering on Parliament Hill.
A so called political scientist quoting out of context letter
So basically RW are spreading this letter of Gandhiji, and quoting everywhere.
Gullible people abusing Gandhiji for that
I am pretty sure they haven't read the whole letter .
He is known as scientist of RW , I am sure he must have known that fact what Gandhiji preaching in that letter
Still why he choose to malign it .
What do you guyz think of that letter?
What is reality of this statement?
I have seen this many times yesterday by anti gandhi people on different subs that tried to portray him biased, weak by this statement......Can anyone tell it's context???
What is the philosophical basis of Gandhi’s ideas of Truth and Non-violence?
I have been trying to understand Gandhi’s ideas of Satya (Truth) and Ahimsa (Non-violence) beyond the usual behavioural or political interpretations.
A lot of what is popularly associated with Gandhi is something like:
- Non-violence means not physically harming another person, even when resisting them.
- Non-violence is demonstrated through things such as fasting, civil disobedience, accepting suffering, etc.
- Truth means being honest — if I cheated, I should admit that I cheated.
- Satyagraha means peacefully protesting or resisting injustice.
All of these may be legitimate expressions of Gandhi’s thought, but they seem to describe the practice rather than the philosophical foundation behind it.
It also seems important to me that these concepts did not originate with Gandhi himself. Ahimsa has much older roots in Indian philosophical traditions, including Buddhism and Jainism, while Satya and the inquiry into Truth are deeply present in the Upanishadic tradition. These traditions themselves place such ideas within much larger philosophical frameworks — for example, questions about the nature of the self and reality in Vedanta, and questions of self, suffering and emptiness in Buddhist philosophy.
So I am curious about something more specific: What did Gandhi actually mean by these concepts, and what philosophical foundations did he inherit, reinterpret, or depart from?
In the era of Godse, I am the follower of Gandhi.
Happy Gandhi jayanti.
Gandhi jayanthi [Tamilnadu]

Yesterday Gandhi jayanthi. Our Tamilnadu CM requested citizens to celebrate Gandhi jayanthi, participate in Gramasabha. I wanted to celebrate it too. But i am not familiar with Gramasabha. There was one photo walk and cycling to celebrate oct2nd. i tried to participate but couldn't.
Then i found a simple way. Gandhipuram Sarvodhaya sangh. Yes, from childhood onwards, buying things in Khadi sarvodhaya is my favorite shopping experience. Over period of time it has become a ritual. When other shops are working hard to feed the economic engine, their each action will be ipurely commercial. But in Sarvodhaya ambience is clean, silent, sales people will talk only if there is a need, traditional and exclusive products, and most importantly if you are a regular customer you will become one among them over period of time.
So yesterday i participated in their morning special Bhajan. "Raghupathy ragava rajaram..." It was good. And after the Bhajan, they called me to offer flowers for Mahatma. I felt so happy and emotional. Then i thought of buying a cotton saree on this special occasion. The sales manager guided me to the silk section as there is a sale going on. For one cotton saree price, i bought 2 printed silk sarees. Hapiness doubled.
By the way, Coimbatore capital is GANDHIPURAM. After Gujarat, i think we have capital city in his name.
Pranam Mahatma!!
do you have Gandhi jayanthi celebration story?
Gandhi Ji, an earthy journey, not a divine destination. 🙏🏻
On this day, for honouring Gandhi Ji, let’s remember he did not descend from the sky; he rose from the earth. He undertook a laborious and long journey from “Man” to “Mahatma”. And he rightly said that his life is his message - what was possible for him is possible for all. When someone devotedly moves forward, challenging their past, their tendencies, and their limitations, their presence infuses a unique consciousness into the entire world.

I never truly understood his love for us : What really Gandhiji meant by Ahimsa ?
What else we really feel missing in our lives other than love ? And the people who really loved us, did we ever got close to them ? We just keep ignoring the depth of love they had for us because society prints an image of them in our head and we assume that as truth.
Coming to our daily lives, I noticed how we act differently in our society because we don't like to disturb anyone, we don't want to be a reason of their sadness, so we often don't speak it out that how are we internally feeling, how the external chaos is impacting us. And the original thing named Ahimsa (non violence) that when came to us from our parents became so misinterpreted from what Gandhiji was trying to convey us.
Our parents said, "Just do your work, get back home, don't try to debate anyone, do not hurt their feelings" etc. But that cannot happen for long, if something is really bothering us and we just keep trying to ignore all stuff and passing fake smile, what we are doing is violence towards ourselves because this will eventually make us distorted from within and if one is distorted within he'll be violent outside. That means this is not the Ahimsa that Gandhiji was talking about.
Here I understood from the video that AP is saying that if living distorted like this will make us violent inside and then violent outside, then that means not becoming distorted from inside is what Ahimsa (non-violence) is. That means not accepting to live a false life is Ahimsa towards ourselves and then towards others also.
If we don't call a lazy person lazy and we keep greeting him as a good man etc. why he'll ever become active ? He would think that being like this lazy when I am respected so much then it is a good way of living altogether. Will he ever change ? No ! And might he get obese over time and develop cardiac issues for example. Have we done non violence to him ? It appears from outside but its not.
Then living the right life, making right choices, dropping all falsehood, denying all the bondages is what the real meaning of Ahimsa is. That's what kind of life Gandhiji was thinking for us, a life free from bondages.
Happy Gandhi Jayanti to everyone (in advance), may we question and understand the real meaning of things the great people had for us.
