Prices at the pump hit $4 a gallon in all 50 states—just as summer driving season begins

This week marked a discouraging milestone for American motorists. The average gas price is now on the wrong side of the $4 mark in every state in the country, an increase that coincides with the start of the busy summer driving season, which kicks off on Memorial Day weekend.

GasBuddy, which tracks fuel pricing, said prices this summer could average $4.80 per gallon from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with the possibility of all-time highs if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for a significant portion of the summer. The national average could easily exceed $5 later this summer if the war is still going.

Prices have spiked since early March because of the war in Iran and the effective closure of the strait, through which 20% of global crude oil volumes typically flow. Prices are the highest since 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, but that year costs also fell sharply by the end of the summer—a development that appears unlikely to be repeated in 2026.

PSA for “I did that” stickers

Please stop having Trump pointing at diesel and super. Have him pointing to the grade of fuel that everyone actually buys. It’s fine if you’re gonna put four stickers on a pump, but if you’re just gonna put one, have it pointing at 87 octane.

Belize with one of, if not the highest gas prices in central America hit with its 4th price hike this year😭😭

For reference, this is in belize dollars(roughly half of an American dollar) and in gallons - our minimum wage is 5 Belize dollars(2.50usd) an hour which is what the average person makes.

Our energy cost for the month

Here is how much we paid to charge two EVs, run the house AC, lights, and all the other electric things in our house in Texas - $91.40.

We charge our Tesla Model 3 and Model Y s at night when power is free (except for delivery) on our plan. We also drop the AC down cool at night and do laundry/dishes then too.

We drove around 2000 miles split between the two cars.

Local GasBuddy won't show real prices

I've contacted GasBuddy. I've sent pictures. Their app says the station that always has the lowest has suddenly has the highest. Their gas has been listed at $4.65 for 2 straight weeks now. It is currently $3.91. It was updated by "visitor" an hour ago. My update stays on the screen until I refresh.

This has to be intentional.
