Has Glastonbury sold out?

The festival has tried to stay modern but massively dropped the ball.

Hyde BST now smashes it in terms of quality headline acts and having a specific Hyde Vibe

4 years ago Duran Duran headlined at Hyde to 300k fanatical fans, while Paul McCartney and Kendrick played to £200k music snobs.

Duran Duran heading Hyde again to unprecedented sales, while Glasto gossip about who deserves to play at their wee gathering.

What tear was Glastonbury’s last credible festival, staying true to the fans before selling out.

no hate to the pop crowd but the lineup needs to stop pandering to the consumer and start taking more risks

to preface this i am a young person who enjoys all music no matter how commercial or quirky

every year without fail the discourse surrounding the first poster is always some absolute spuds saying they want a refund cos there aren’t enough names they like. whether its popstars, rock bands, djs, white men, legacy acts or young talent, there’s always simultaneously too many and not enough

meanwhile the festival continues to sell out but also have an overcrowding (sugababes twice over, fontaines and charli in 2024), and an undercrowding problem (sza, idles, phoenix) at the same time???

from day one glastonbury has been the “festival of contemporary arts”. from the first fayre in 1970 it was major popstars like t rex booked alongside the underground circuit groups like gong and the pink fairies. even as recent as 2014 you’d have jack white, arcade fire, dolly parton, de la soul, kelis, seun kuti, ms dynamite, esg, sun ra and the bbc radiophonic workshop all sharing a poster!!! no genre of music is a poor fit for a glastonbury lineup but somehow one of the most streamed artists globally played to a near empty pyramid crowd on sunday in 2024. i enjoy sza’s music but quite frankly lekiddo the lobster probably had better odds of filling that field

pop today isn’t what it used to be. it no longer shoots for feelgood mass appeal but to distinct little cult niches of consumers that experience the music on an emotional level and go to war on twitter with other fan groups. if this kind of thing appeals to you then living in a farmer’s field with a few hundred-thousand strangers for a weekend is probably your idea of hell.

this mode of stan consumption has bled everywhere across the music industry to the point every musical niche has their needs covered by the commercial festival market. outbreak festival is the perfect example of this cos even HARDCORE PUNK has a weekend festival that sells thousands of tickets. so if you’re one of those people going “who are these nobodies they’ve booked now???” i can guarantee your needs are met elsewhere, just go to all points east or hyde park or download or something

the beauty of glastonbury has been that you can walk any direction in this massive site and you’ll always find something new and interesting but i feel like this doesn’t hold up as strong when stages are being taken up with the likes of gracie abrams and alex warren or whatever new face has been given their six months of spotlight. maybe the queues won’t be as bogged up with pedestrian influencer types who can’t afford a flight to coachella if the festival decides to double down on its identity again.

equally maybe im just some snobby grouch but i’ve been meaning to put this into words for a while now, if you disagree i would really like to listen to your perspective 😁

Are Fontaines D.C. big enough to headline Pyramid Stage?

I think that Fontaines will definitely be at Glastonbury 2027. I immediately thought Other Stage Headliners but could they do Pyramid?

They have a few hits: Jackie Down The Line, I Love You, Favourite, Starburster. And I do think they are quite culturally impactfull.

I can see maybe Friday night headline.

The 1975 were the best headliners in years.

Hot take but the 1975 are genuinely the best headliner Glastonbury has had in YEARS. For the most part the past few years have been nothing but snoozefest headliners. The 1975 had the best mix of songs the whole audience could sing, high energy bangers that got the crowd moving but also lower energy ballads that calmed things down at the exact moment.

This isn’t even to mention the performance that each member gave. They played that show like they’d never play another. They throughly eclipsed everything and everyone on last years line up by far.

In my opinion: The next time they play Glastonbury (which they will do) they should be the headline act on the Sunday and close things out.

Mock Poster Line Up for Glastonbury 2027

Yes that's a double Saturday headliner of Chappell Roan and Olivia Dean back to back, with Bruce headlining Sunday and Robbie in the legends slot.

Please tell me everything you love and hate.

Other stage headliners, if you're asking: Bring Me The Horizon, Chase and Status, Zara Larsson

visiting with baby- give me tips/explain to me like I’m 5 how to do it successfully. First timers to glasto

Hey all, have wanted to go to Glastonbury for many years but never managed it.

For those seasoned veterans who visit with their kids, can you recommend a plan for us please? I’ve seen people talking about hiring a camper van. Would just like some advice from people who have done it before.

Baby would be just over a year old if we manage to get 2027 tickets.

I’ve seen lots of people say “why would you bring a baby?” But then equal amounts of people who’ve always had a great experience bringing babies and small kids, so would like to hear both sides

Thanks :)
