Why does it seem like success rate has been worse this year?

If the system was designed to keep out the bots, then why does it (anecdotally) seem like regular people have done worse this year? I don't know anyone with tickets. Obviously could just be unlucky from the people I know. But still - seems weird.

Starting with green vegetables and no interest

Anyone else started to "wean with green" and getting nowhere? Like not even putting anything near his mouth? We thought he was ready as he is always grabbing towards our food. But we've tried broccoli, courgette and avocado and he vaguely picks it up, maybe touches it near his lips and then that's it... Everything non-food he picks up he shoves in his mouth!

Feature idea: awake time so far today

Many of the responses to parents schedules not working are always "You're not giving them enough awake time in the day". How about if huckleberry displayed "awake time so far today" so that by the end of the day you could tell if your baby has had enough awake time in the day to fit your baby's needs...

Extra features could be in the summary showing day awake time for each day, and night awake time / total.

Songs about Parenting

I'd love some recommendations of musical theatre songs about being a parent/parenting. So far I've got:

I'd Give my Life for you - Miss Saigon

Children Will Listen - Into the Woods

Miracle - Matilda

Dear Theodosia - Hamilton

What do the older generations mean when they say they "just put their baby down to nap/sleep"

My mum and Grandma are both convinced that they put their babies down to sleep for naps. They can't understand why I have to have mine in a sling. I can sometimes manage the first nap of the day in a bassinet (after 20 minutes of bouncing, which is much harder without the sling to help), and he might drop off in a car or pram if the timing is exactly right, but normally after at least 15 minutes of fussing. He is 9 weeks btw.

My mum and Grandma are convinced that I'm making things more difficult for myself by using the sling and always having him with me, and are baffled because they are sure they just put their babies down for naps. They describe singing a song, some light rocking in their arms and a transfer, or even pulling a musical Mobile and the baby just drifting off - wild!

They also have another grandchild from my brother and SIL, who is 6 months and also the same - contact naps and co sleeping. We do manage most nights in the bassinet after feeding to sleep. For now. I don't know pretty much anyone in my Antenatal group who's babies just go to sleep in a cot. We're all discussing contact naps and safe co sleeping...

What's going on here? Is it...

a) My mum and Grandma are wildly misremembering how much effort went into getting them to sleep before putting them down, and forgetting the failed transfers and short naps

b) They just left the babies to cry in another room and didn't worry so much

c) They essentially sleep trained them early and by using a sling I have made him associate that with sleep rather than associating the bassinet with sleep

d) They're remembering their babies at an older age and have forgotten newborn time

e) They were feeding completely to sleep every nap and are better at transferring

f) They both had unicorn babies (but I hear it from everyone of the older generations honestly, so I don't think it's that)

g) ???

I don't do contact naps because I'm trying to make things harder for myself (which is what they seem to think), I'm doing it because it's way EASIER than the wasted time and screaming that would be involved in trying to put him down every time!

What is the best solution for transporting pumped milk while out?

I'm going to a gig (stadium seated) and will be away from baby for maybe 10 hours getting there and back - I'm expecting to pump 3 times or so using portable in bra pumps. I'll probably make 300-450 ml. What is the best way to keep that milk usable and transport it home? Do I need a cooler bag and ice packs with regular bottles for each pump output? Or would those large milk cooler bottles work and stay cold if I bring it with me empty?

My pregnancy weight gain data (no actual numbers)

I weighed myself regularly throughout pregnancy and now after, and thought that other mums-to-be might find the results interesting (without real numbers as I don't want to make this about direct comparisons). The dark green section shows the "recommended" weight gain based on my starting weight at around conception, according to https://www.calculator.net/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator.html, but as you can see, I didn't follow that trend at all.

For the first 8 weeks I was losing weight, mostly because I had been losing some weight before I got pregnant, and I was able to keep up with regular exercise (mostly running). I was nauseous but not sick, which probably did mean that I didn't eat as much as normal in the first trimester, even though I wanted to.

I started gaining weight in the second trimester, and quickly overtook the "recommended" weight gain, and the increase was much steeper, especially around 20 to 22 weeks. This continued in the third trimester - my weight gain didn't ever slow down. I had no health issues and this was never raised by my midwives - I was never weighed after the first midwife appointment. My pregnancy was low risk with no GD suspected.

I gave birth at 39+5 spontaneously, and have weighed myself a few times since. A huge amount disappeared immediately with the baby and fluids. And it has continued to drop off, although slightly slowing now. I have not done anything actively to try to lose weight in this time. I've hardly exercised apart from the odd walk and I'm eating plenty. I am breastfeeding exclusively.

Thought people would find this interesting, and a comparison to help you realise not to worry about those weight recommendations!
