Faye's golden soul.
I'm not sure of the significance of this detail, but Faye's soul appears to be golden whereas every other soul we see, belonging to Giants, Gods, or otherwise, is blue.
Anybody have any ideas?
I also find it very interesting that her soul doesn't appear to leave her body until after her body is burned and essentially laid to rest, whereas Odin's soul leaves him immediately, as well as Fenrir's. Granted, Atreus was using the same spell on both.
I'm not sure if Norse mythos requires a funeral for the soul to exit the body, but Faye was presumably dead for some time leading up to it, as Kratos and Atreus are already preparing her funeral by the start of the game. She is wrapped in a shroud and adorned with flowers as well.
We also know that Norse souls have 4 parts, and that each part IS required for passage into the afterlife. So that would mean that it's impossible for any part of her to be in the light of Alfheim, or bound to Leviathan, as some old theories suggest. Otherwise, she couldn't go to the Everywhen. That is unless the rules for getting into the Everywhen are somehow different, of course...
Maybe here you don't need all your soul bits, as it's not dictated by the rules of any one singular mythos, but is instead a combination of them all?
What do y'all think?
God of War: Laufey gameplay trailer gave us a lot
The biggest one for me is: Why is Faye in the Everywhen at all?
From what we’ve been told, the Everywhen is supposed to be the afterlife of the gods. But Faye wasn’t a god. She was a Giant. A powerful Giant, sure, but still a Giant. So does the Everywhen only accept gods, or is it a realm for all divine beings? Could it be a place where souls that don’t quite fit into their “assigned” afterlife end up? Or is there some larger destiny at work that even Faye couldn’t foresee?
I’m also curious about what the Everywhen actually is.
Is it a place between life and whatever comes after? A crossroads for souls? A realm where gods and divine beings search for purpose? Or is it something even stranger?
And speaking of the Everywhen…
How big is this place?
Is it effectively endless? We already saw what looked like gods from completely different mythologies interacting there. If that’s true, we may be looking at the biggest setting God of War has ever attempted.
Another thing I noticed: the dragon-like god Faye fought didn’t seem to go down the way gods usually do in the series. That raises a huge question. Can beings in the Everywhen actually die? Or are they trapped in some kind of cycle?
As for the story timeline, do you think this game only runs parallel to God of War (2018), or will it eventually catch up to Ragnarok? Could this be the first part of a larger Faye story?
And finally: What are the chances we’re actually playing this sooner rather than later?
We’ve already gotten story details, a reveal, and gameplay footage. Personally, I don’t think we’ll get it this year, but I’m starting to wonder if Summer 2027 is realistic.
What are your theories?
Why is Faye in the Everywhen?
What exactly is the Everywhen?
What kind of Giant magic does she actually possess?
Can beings there die?
And how much of Kratos and Atreus do you think we’ll see?
Saw some people wishing we could see the script on the sword better, so I hunted for a shot in slo-mo
This is the clearest image I've seen yet, so thought I'd share it to see if anyone knows what it is and what it might mean :)
I highly doubt this is kratos at all
Ive seen a lot of posts talking about how this is either kratos from when he enters the light of alfheim or when thor kills him for a minute in their first fight, I thought these posts would die over but since theyre not, just wanted to know what everyone ACTUALLY thought of this moment. I always saw this as either A) a manifestation of Fayes powers helping herself up, it took the form of kratos since it was the most comforting image. my reason to believe this is that he turns into gold dust, same to fayes power. or B), its just an effect of the Everwen, this one seems likely to me as well because it could look like its just playing on the emotions or wants of everyone present there, and this moment seems like a foreshadow for this theme that will be explored further in the game
Fan theory for the Laufey game:
The one who will act as the blacksmith for armour and weapon upgrades in the new game will be Hephaestus, and Pandora will be his assistant.
Laufey is gonna be in the new God of War game!? Heck yeah
The above image is created by myself, not AI-generated
this game is WOKE SLOP, they are REPLACING THE HOLLOW KNIGHT FOR A GIRL, while in the original game HES A GUY, team cherry has gone WOKE and i hate THEM and i will only get 5 COPIES to show my DISDAIN. seriously disappointed in them
Ugly characters
Y is it wrong if we're gonna be stuck with a female protagonist that I want her sexy. Objectively the guys in the games are not ugly people so wen they make women ugly it makes no sense. And I'm an wrong for that. These game wit ugly chicks don't do well. Look at tomb raider and look at Star wars outlaws. Star wars outlaws easily could of been an amazing game but because developers target the 20% of gamers it was trash. We're all stuck trying to make games that have real cultural significance or try to connect it to Wat going on in society. Wen video games are a FANTASY I repeat a FANTASY we imagine ourselves in so yea I wanna play a total badass and sleep with hot women I'm a guy that's the way my brain is wired and I won't apologize for that. And if I play as a girl in a game hell yes I want her hot I wanna stare at her ass or see her boobs giggle wen she runs, and listen I'm not doing that on the street thas just creepy but in the privacy of our homes everyone looks at pictures of good looking people all day on TV, their phones. And I don't here women complaining wen every guy in a game has a six pack. Point being ur actively hurting ur own game to virtue signal. Wen people are going to lean towards the attractive people in privacy, y deny wat we all like. I swear the left use to b all free speech and love and partying, now it's all uptight ppl mad at the world cuz they didn't get wat they expected. Guess what no one did
About the hate for the new GOW game. (Spoiler for old games lore)
The fact people are arguing about a game that they havent played yet is wild to me. Stop with your knee jerk reactions and slow down to see the bigger picture. Kratos opening his heart to Faye is reason enough for her to get her own game. If you disagree you never payed attention to the first few games of GOW. >!Kratos KILLED his first wife and child by accident due to being manipulated by Aries.!< That man has crazy truama and yet Faye still made him love again! Everyone who is complaining about this new game in one of the best series in gaming ever is just plain blind and only reacts to life and never truly understands it.
Fólkvangr
Honestly, when I first watched the Laufey trailer, I thought she might be in Fólkvangr.
The flower enemies and wildlife seemed very reminiscent of the stuff we see throughout Vanaheim. All the critters and hostile plant life really had me thinking I was on to something.
It is the only Norse afterlife we have yet to see, after all. I don't even think there's any mention of it, if I recall correctly?
But the pink flower enemies also reminded me of the ones back in Greece that we saw during Sons of Sparta, that shoot poison at you.
Idk. No big theory here or anything. Just an observation I made.
The reaction to the new God of War exposed a growing issue in gaming discourse
The trailer for the new game has my incredibly hyped and I love all the fanart and memes that spawned from the announcement. But the online discourse around this game is terrible and I had to call it out.
What is this structure?

Since we don’t have the details of the game, tried to make it as accurate as I could while not really knowing the lore of this next chapter. Same Username on insta if you’d like to check it out there.

Women of War: So what if in this afterlife time is different and thus maybe just maybe Faye meets Hela/Hel?
Who 50/50 could be Loki daughter thus it like a reverse Kratos and Atreus team up granddaughter who might be an adult team up with grandmother!
Faye's sword is Nandaka (Sanskrit: नन्दक, lit. 'source of joy')
ok so to me this is very clearly south asian writing and its almost certainly Nandaka (Sanskrit: नन्दक, lit. 'source of joy'). "The sword is described as blue-hued with a gem-studded handle." like cmon... i dont see any other possible explanation but im certainly open to it! it would make sense that the Mongol god would be scared of it since the Mongols never conquered South Asia and it is seen as a demon/god killing sword. this is the best pic i could get of the symbols. if anyone has a clearer one pls lmk!
As an old-school fan (since the PSP/PS2 games), I'm worried about the combat direction in GoW Laufey
I’ve been playing God of War since the classic era on PS2 and PSP (Chains of Olympus / Ghost of Sparta). I think introducing new gods and exploring different worlds is amazing, it fits the game perfectly. I am also very excited to play as Faye, she is a badass warrior and deserves her own game. However, looking at the trailer, I am concerned: you cannot take away the essence of the franchise, which has always been a great combat system.
God of War has always been about brutal, visceral, hand-to-hand combat (like a heavy 'taijutsu' mixed with weapons). The physical impact of the hits is the DNA of this game. I feel that it's leaning way too much into high-fantasy magic, talking ribbons, and cosmic cubes. Magic is fine, but it shouldn't replace raw combat. We don't want a game focused on mage builds from afar, and definitely no creatures that die glowing on the screen. We want that heavy impact.
Also, making the franchise about Atreus/Loki in the future feels wrong. He has a 'Marvel/Avengers' vibe that doesn't fit the God of War title at all. I hope Santa Monica doesn't forget the veteran fans who built this franchise. We need that raw, heavy, bone-crushing gameplay back.
God of war Laufey release date
What is everyone’s guesses to when it’ll release I hope it will come out early August or is that me being delusional
The aspect of the sword wielded by Faye resembles Kurikaraken
Props to youtuber Deep Dive Discourse, who went on further explanations about the mythological story of the sword. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhnLIVNGn4g
