GoodLife Fitness Personal Training Scam Scam Scam

I recently joined GoodLife because I wanted to try personal training. During the consultation, the trainer explained how I could achieve my fitness goals and suggested I train with them twice a week while coming in on two additional days on my own.
When it came time to pay, we went to the front desk. I tapped my card, paid, and was handed the signature pad. I honestly believed I was signing to authorize the payment. At no point was I shown a contract or told that I was signing one.
I was never told that:
I was committing to a one-year personal training agreement.
There was a 15% cancellation/buyout fee if I wanted to end the agreement early.
I should review the contract before signing.
A copy would be emailed to me for review.
If I had been told there was a one-year commitment, I would never have signed up. I was actively looking for a new job at the time, so I specifically wanted something short-term. A one-year commitment was never something I was willing to agree to.
A few days later, after accepting a part-time job, I contacted GoodLife to cancel because my schedule had changed. Instead of working with me, I was told I had to pay a 15% buyout fee because they claimed all of this had been explained to me. It wasn’t.
What has been most frustrating is that I wasn’t treated with much understanding after raising my concerns. I feel like my concerns were dismissed, even though I genuinely don’t believe I gave informed consent to a one-year contract.
I’ve done personal training at other gyms before, including LA Fitness, and this has been by far the worst experience I’ve had. In my experience, other gyms have been upfront about whether you’re signing a contract and what the cancellation terms are. I never had anything remotely like this happen elsewhere.
What makes it even more ironic is that during my consultation, the trainer criticized LA Fitness and told me they had a bad reputation. Based on my own experience, I ended up having a much better experience there than I have with GoodLife.
I’ve also come across reviews from other people describing similar experiences with GoodLife’s personal training contracts, which makes me wonder if this is a recurring issue.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Were you able to get out of the contract or have the buyout fee waived? I’d really appreciate hearing how your situation turned out.

Is BODYPUMP worth it for easing back into the gym after a 3 year break?

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to get back into a solid fitness routine after a 3-year hiatus from the gym. Doing solo workouts right now feels a bit daunting, so I was looking at trying out some group fitness classes to help ease myself back into the swing of things.

Fortunately, I'm still in pretty good shape due to having a very active, physical 9-5 job, but actual gym workouts are a different beast.
I just booked my first Body Pump class for this weekend.

According to the app description in the image, it's a
60-minute, high-intensity strength class using light to moderate weights with high repetitions. Since it's labeled as "High" intensity, I'm a little nervous about jumping straight into it after so much time away from structured training.

How beginner-friendly or "restart-friendly" is it really?

Thanks in advance.

Summer teen plan enforcement

Hi, I am 16m and i’ve been going to the gym consistently for around a year. However I want a gym that’s closer to my house and easier to get to for the summer. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the rules on benching and squatting with barbells is enforced with the free teen summer plan? I know how to properly bench and squat with good form and without ego lifting so i’m wondering if the employees will allow me to if done properly. Thanks

Wellhub or similar for travel

I live in the uk and am visiting Canada soon. I have wellhub and can see it's available in Canada and the USA. Is Goodlife available on wellhub? Its the best gym in Toronto from memory for a gym and a steam.

Or is anyone aware of a travel gym app that gives access to goodlife?

It’s a crime for all GoodLifes to not be playing iceman or rap music, why the hell do gyms play radio music 😡😡😡

If you know any GoodLife employees, tag them in this post

Beware of overly friendly personal trainers who randomly approach you while your working out.

Greetings fellow gym goers, just wanted to give a heads up about something that had happened to a friend of mine recently at a location within Durham Region.

There is a good friend of mine that I’ve known for years, we’ll call him Kay. So basically, Kay was just doing his regular deadlifts and was deadlifting 315 for about 8-reps without the weights touching the ground. While that’s happening, a personal trainer is watching him from the distance. As soon as Kay finishes his set, the trainer approaches him in an overly friendly/kind manner with a smile and asks him what he is training for etc...

Long story short they exchange words and then the PT ask him if he would like a complimentary session with him where he could show him a few methods to help him with his deadlifts. Kay agrees, the problem is that this PT exchanges phones numbers with Kay and pretends to act like a new friend towards him. Kay then attends the personal training session and sadly that PT only used Kay for that one session just so he could increase his client quota number. Kay soon realized that he got used like a commodity by this trainer only to then get ghosted and ignored by this scummy trainer. That PT never spoke to him ever again. Kay was under the impression that his trainer wanted to be his friend but was quite sad when he realized that he had taken advantage of.

I know Goodlife invites newly registered members for a free personal training session, but this was different as my friend has been training for nearly 9 years as a GoodLife member.

Please be careful folks, a lot of PTs at GoodLife could sleazy opportunists who will act extra friendly and kind towards you, only then take advantage of you just so they can increase their quota instead of acquiring actual clients. They have ZERO interest in getting to know you as a person.

PT Session Help- Pricing - Help please

  • Hi, today I went to my good life location to inquire about PT session pricing. I explained I am looking to do 10 sessions over 5 weeks to build some gym confidence and learn some machines and good habits, and i wanted to know the pricing. I was told they would need to do an assessment and then make session duration and length recommendations before they could give me pricing, cause i may need 6 months?!?!?!

I explained I didn't mind doing an assessment, but I knew what I wanted to start, and I needed the pricing before committing

they refused....

Is this not an option?

I am in the GTA (Ontario) for reference

PT membership issue with my trainer

started PT in Mar 2025 and I had a pretty shitty trainer. a lot of no shows on that trainer’s part, or he would show up 15-30 mins late with no communication. I switched trainers in Feb 2026, and I had my regular PT sessions that I was paying for + close to 30 banked sessions. Back in Jan, I cancelled my PT membership because I became unemployed + it was only a $40 buyout. I still had the banked sessions

My new trainer is trying to persuade me to buy another package but I still have 20-25 sessions banked. I’m also fatigued from PT and prefer gyming on my own. I feel a lot more challenged and better with my own workout plan than his. For some reason, his manager told him he has to book all my banked sessions out and he put me in for 3x a week for days/times I didn’t agree to then randomly will ask me the day before if I’m coming at x time. when I called GoodLife, they said I have only 3 sessions left banked because the club booked me all out. Is this normal practice? I just feel uneasy that it doesn’t show my true banked classes and that they booked me out on days/times I didn’t approve for

I also have been going to my trainer only 1-2 times a week lately because I go to the gym by myself 3-4 times a week, and the weeks I don’t do 2-3 PT sessions, my trainer says he gets in trouble from the manager? My trainer has confined hours and I prefer to workout in the mornings (he prefers not to train people in the mornings or weekends) so timing has been tough too! I’m not sure why me going less than 2-3 sessions a week gets him in trouble because I’m no longer a paying PT client. I’ve just been using my banked sessions. i do want to finish up my sessions asap but also, I just got a new job and prefer going in the mornings. I just don’t understand why he would be getting in trouble because I’m choosing to book 1-2 times a week
