I'm a new fan here, hi! I just wanted to give appreciation to this song. As someone who was raised by a narcissist and abandoned by another one, this song reaches way too deep into my soul and holds my inner child's hand.

My favorite lines that aren't just the chorus:

"Trade you time for any clue of what to do or not to do"

"Your eggshell floor is splintering now"

"You live to look for enemies I have to bet that's lonely, could leave you with an empty house"

"I ruined your plans for some grand self-promotion, the second you figured that I figured you out"

And the way she sings "when I look at you now" at the end, it gives me chills.

I keep playing it on repeat and my husband has asked if I'm okay a couple of times.

So in Look at My Life, Gracie says “I might just shut up and drive.”

And in Drive, Audrey essentially says she likes to go for drives to clear her mind, decompress, or whatever (I think??? lol)

Anyway, I’m not saying these lyrics or songs are direct references to one another, but, when taken together, do they suggest this is something they maybe liked to do together? Idk I think it’s just interesting lol!

Any thoughts?

Gracie deserves more support and less criticism from the community. She is growing and maturing in her music career.... Criticism is fine, I have been on fan forums before and seen similar stuff. But some of you seem well... mean...

I was listening to the bonus track Love Letter, and while I love it a lot, I still can't seem to understand what she's trying to say and I don't see anyone talking about it😭

"Told me not to make a sound
But if there was a limb to sever
I would cut it off right now
And I'd give it to you, my love letter"

I promise I'm not usually dense to metaphors, but why is she cutting of a limb while being quiet, and why is she giving away said cut limb? as a love letter?? Could somebody more poetically inclined explain?

am I the only person who thinks The Knife could be perfectly attributed to living with depression?

Every lyric fits perfect for what it feels like to have this thing (the knife being depression) constantly on you and everyone around you saying to get help or take meds but it’s not that easy and it’s something you’re gonna have to live with forever. I don’t think that’s what gracie was writing about but for me it makes perfect sense

LIKE EVERYTHING JUST SOUNDS TOO PERFECT FOR DEPRESSION

Hello? I’m so confused because this song sounds like the next sequel of “I love you, I’m sorry”!!!

We’ve officially had a full 7 days to sit with this album! How is everyone feeling?

Personally, I feel so blessed to be able to indulge in this masterpiece of a record. Every song tugs on my heart in a different way, wether it’s nostalgia, heartbreak, guilt, regret, etc…

This folk style she’s experimenting with is MY JAM! That being said, I do wish that her and Aaron would’ve turned up some of the folk-country elements in production. The hints of fiddle, banjo, and especially pedal steel are incredibly evident ONLY if you listen with headphones or focus on your record really hard. I think there’s a beauty in restraint and subtleties, but personally I think these elements could’ve enhanced some of the songs, especially Good Reason’s pedal steel.

I’ve been watching every review I find, (idk why I do this to myself, I’m really easy to rage bait), and most, if not all are primarily negative. I find these negative perspectives interesting to take in because of the pure subjectivity of this record. Nobody flat out loves it, barely anyone thinks it mediocre, and a lot of people flat out hate it. I can understand some points made by those who don’t resonate with this album, except they express them with such jealousy and anger that it’s embarrassing and frustrating. I made the mistake of reading through comments under AnThOnY fAnTaNo's (idek if that’s his name lol) hate video, and the amount of times I found myself LAUGHING was unexpected. So many people labelling, accusing, blaming, and purely hating on her… except most times I wasn’t upset because of the pure stupidity and nonsensical nature of the comments.

I understand that you may not adore this album, and that’s perfectly fine. You’re not being asked or forced to, it’s your own unique music taste. That being said, if you just hate without a single ounce of decency or empathy for the person you’re shooting down, not respectfully keep your opinion and shove it up your fat a-

No but in all seriousness, I’ve noticed a great deal of hypocrisy with this new arrival. Obviously people have always been hypocrites and always will be, but in these hateful “reviews" everyone’s saying "More music like That’s So True! Audrey is the reason Gracie is successful!" Then "Minibar sucks", "TSOU lost her plot, she was a great sad girl artist." "This pivot from TSOU is sooo slow and boring.", and the one that makes my blood boil, "She wants to act like she’s all sad and broken down like she’s not a rich nepo-baby." WHAT DO YOU WANT HER TO WRITE ABOUT?! this genuinely just- sigh

Anyways, this quickly transformed into an oversized rant, if you read this all you deserve a prize, sorry 😭

Why are there 5 threads every day about how y'all hate the studio version of "Death Wish"? The production on the final version is way more nuanced and complex, and it helps portray many emotions instead of just a single one like the live version does.

Obviously, it's okay to prefer one version over the other, but just because you don't like the final version doesn't make it an objectively bad song or an objectively bad decision to put it on the album, especially when you look at the sonic context of the album.

Gracie was NEVER about simple, stripped-back production, and did you seriously think the piano version would be the final one? It's obvious that when artists play unreleased songs live, they aren't performing them with the full production, they're just using whatever instrument they have in front of them.

I, for one, thought the live version was just okay and expected to skip "Death Wish" when the album came out, but now that the production is different, I absolutely love it, and it's in my top 5.

If you want sad piano songs, go listen to Adele or something, please.

I had been obsessed with the album since it came out, it really spoke to me on a personal level. Had been listening to "Broke My Heart" and oh my, Justin Vernon is just going off in the vocals, I love it so much when I catch him in the background in his high register.
And, to me, he blends to seamlessly with Gracie's tone.
Whenever he is going off in the background, me and my wife say that he is babygirling and honestly, I am so here for it. Love them.

I’m not understanding the critical reviews of Daughter From Hell. Pitchfork gave this album a 6.2 but Charli XCX a 8.2 for Music, Fashion, Film.

What am I missing? I’m so confused what these critics are seeing?

Ive seen a lot of discourse on this new album but dare I say its some of her best work? It doesn’t feel “poppy/teeny boppy” and feels more real raw and dark. Don’t get me wrong, I love all her albums but to me, DFH shows huge progression.
