Sew-in weft extensions- extremely itchy and red, help!

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone with experience with weft extensions can help me figure out what might be going on before I contact my hairdresser.
I had weft hair extensions installed 8 days ago, and since then my scalp has been extremely itchy. I’ve noticed some areas where my scalp looks red and inflamed, and I have small red sores/pimple-like bumps in certain places.

At first I thought it might be caused by the moustache/return hair on the weft irritating my scalp, but now I’m not sure because it’s not happening everywhere. The worst irritation seems to be around certain sections, especially the very bottom weft. Some areas feel completely fine, while others are really itchy and sore.

I’ve taken some pictures of the affected areas and was hoping hairdressers or anyone who has worn weft extensions before might be able to give me some insight.

Anyone have any experiences with goo goo halo extensions?

I have very fine hair and unfortunately I went and got tape ins on November and I’ve had a ton of hair loss due to it, I was told that the tape ins were the safest and less damaging for fine hair but they ended up ruining my hair anyways. I have lost so much and I feel devastated. I will get them removed next week, but I know I will need something while my hair recovers and I heard about halo extensions being the best option for people with my problem. I have been researching multiple brands and was debating on getting the luxy ones but they’re so expensive and I’m scared that they’ll not be worth it, so I found out about goo goos which are way more affordable but I would still like to ask if anyone has had them and your reviews :)

3 weeks tape ins. First timer

This is my first time getting any kind of extensions. Let me preface by saying my natural hair is incredibly fine and a fart could dry my hair out of the shower so I'm not used to doing a whole lot for it.

I did something stupid and put rose hip oil on them thinking it would help the frizz and dryness, I then found out the opposite is true 🙈 I bought some proper products, hydrating shampoo and conditioner. I also had a marula oil product line I used, mask, detangler and creme during/after shower.

This one spot was bothering me since application, I think my scalp was angry. I had a bump, itchiness and soreness near the spot it was applied to and as soon as it slid off I felt immediate relief. I find have to use head and shoulders on my scalp because of how angry it gets, even before extensions.

I find it impossible to do any kind of tying my hair back. Even in a low bun or pigtails. After a little bit I feel it just tugs too much on my scalp, even if I pull it loose. Is this normal?

Hype me up!

Hi everyone, I am about to get extensions for the first time (35f), but I really am so nervous. I lost so much hair when I had COVID in 2022, and since then, my hair density never returned to my pre-covid hair. I've done the blood work, taken so many supplements, had a lot of limpias, and my hair -- even though it's growing, it just looks thin and scraggly.

I have only really read bad things about hair extensions -- that they cause your hair to fall out, major breakage, etc. I'm nervous to pay the deposit for my appointment because everyone seems to say it's a mistake.

I would really appreciate it if those of you who have had positive experiences could share how long you've had yours and how you maintain them <3. Any tips or advice is welcome.

Hair extensions ?

Hi everyone ,
I had hair extensions / Brazilian done 2 years ago and although I loved my hair- it cost me $1k. It’s just too damn expensive.

I was wondering is it possible to buy my own real hair and then take it to salons ? And they can decide if they want to do micro link , k tip or Brazilian etc. What I’m trying to find out is is this normal lol ?

Has anyone done this, I would hope you save more money this way

first time extensions, first wash

posting a series of pics to illustrate why i am worried. please let me know if i am exaggerating. first two pics were taken on the day i got my extensions installed. last two were taken just now… day of first wash but after a full day of work, i oiled prior to taking the pics.
paid 1k (euros) for coloring + install. super happy with them. today (day and a half after install) i washed my hair and was pretty disappointed with how they look. i feel like you can see where my own hair separated from the extensions if i place my hair before my shoulders as opposed to behind. my ends feel frizzy too.
as my stylist recommended i washed with extension specific shampoo, used conditioner (didnt leave it on for long bc of work though), then used heating protectant and blowdried and styled. after styling i used oil (also recommended by stylist). all products are by kevin murphy. i did order the color wow supernatural spray as i saw it recommended everywhere…
i suppose what i am wondering is this:
is my routine not what it should be/did i do something wrong? is nothing wrong and did i just have unrealistic expectations?
if you have any input or advice please let me know. im super bummed D:

Is there any way to stop them separating like this?

I purchased the most beautiful set of synthetic extensions and really love them. The only thing that bothers me is that they separate into strands! They came pre-waved and no matter how much I brush them, they end up twisting back again! (The pictures are literally 5 minutes after I brushed them). Is there any way I can stop this? I’ve tried brushing, washing, and combing them, but I’m afraid my last resort will be to straighten them and lose the wave. I really love the hair texture but the little twists remind me of dreadlocks and kinda feel clunky!

Any advice appreciated! :)

Amazing color match! Natural hair color. No Dye

Genius wefts 180 grams 24 inches - I have a tiny headache right now but it’s normal. I love them!! We’ll see how long I can keep up with them. My hair was past the middle of my back before and a little thick already.

New to hair extensions, need some tips

Hi everyone! I bought my extensions from a regular local market but they turned out to be really bad quality — rough, tangling a lot, and just not lasting well. Can anyone suggest good places (online or in-store) to buy better quality extensions from? Also would love some general tips on how to take care of them properly so they last longer.

Very fine, thin hair... Should I just go back to itips?

I've always had fine thin hair, but it was incredibly spirally curly until I had my first of three kids. It's now barely wavy after cancer treatment 18 years ago, three pregnancies and age (50) I choose hair extensions to feel the way I want to about myself.

I live in a rural area so we are often behind the times on trends, but extensions are also a lot cheaper. I know the extensions have thinned my natural hair a little bit, but it makes such a difference I don't care. My issue is that I went from itips to an Infinity weft 3 years ago. I now have one row which is just for fullness because most people don't even know I have extensions. It looks like a wolf cut on someone with sort of thin hair. I used to have two rows but the top row you could see through my hair because it's so thin. That sort of bothered me. The edges of my weft are constantly showing through or peeling up. I have an active job so I often put my hair up in a ponytail and I feel like I can't anymore.

Should I go back to itips? It seems they fallen out of favor but it might actually be the best for my incredibly fine thin hair... I don't even use that many. My stylist is too worried about using k-tips and potentially causing damage to my hair, and he mentioned tape ins, what he said normally cause little damage but might for me. When I have the i tips I felt like I could put my hair up in a ponytail and not feel like everyone could see the bumps or the weft. Did they occasionally pull/fall out? Yes, but I don't remember being super bothered by it.

Please help!

UPDATE: 2 days into tape in extensions

I desperately need advice.

A week ago I posted that I got tape ins installed on dirty hair (5 day old dirty hair) - and that when I washed my hair for the first time at home since getting them, two had fallen out. I called the stylist and went back and he placed them back in free of charge and said that it could be because it’s my first time getting extensions and that my hair is still getting used to it.

Well today I washed my hair for the second time (already stressed out and worried more would fall out) and lo and behold, another two came out. 1 came out completely and the other was hanging on only on 1 corner but had slipped and parted from the hair backing it.

I don’t know what to do. I truly don’t have the time to keep going every time I wash my hair to get them placed back in. Do I ask to get them all removed and fully reinstalled on clean hair free of charge? It feels diabolical that I’d have to pay full price to get them removed and reinstalled. Or do I just ask to get them all removed and pay another $365 to get them installed elsewhere (this is what I paid him for installation which was $285 appt + tax + 20% tip)

I’m so sad that my first extensions experience has been this. I wish I would’ve researched that they had to be installed on clean hair before because I would’ve totally just walked out and rescheduled. Or that he at least would’ve told me their sink was broken and couldn’t wash my hair before the appt and I could’ve come with clean hair 😔

Hair extension prices

Guys i wanted to get some extensions for an upcoming wedding in August. i messaged this girl i found on IG & explained to her what i wanted which was micro links/nano bonds (unsure which one as i’ve never had extensions before) & not particularly any more thickness just length. I have 2c ish hair. She said she’d recommend 150g/24” which is fine whatever, it’s what i basically asked for. But then she hit me with the “£610 for the extensions and £250 for install”. Is this normal???? I have absolutely no idea but I will actually pay it if this is normal but just want to know for sure i’m not being fcked around with. Someone please help a girl out before i go bankrupt over some damn inches.

Sew-in Weft Extensions- Intense Itching

Hi everyone,
I got sew-in weft hair extensions on Monday and I’m wondering if what I’m experiencing is normal or if I should be concerned.

The first day my scalp was really sore, but that has mostly gone away. Now I’m left with constant itching. I think it might be the return hairs (“moustache”) on the weft irritating my scalp because that’s where it feels the worst.

I’ve already gone back to my stylist once to have a couple of wefts adjusted because they were visible, but the itching is still there. It almost feels like my hair is being lightly pulled sometimes, although lifting/ tugging the row itself doesn’t hurt at all. I’ve also washed the hair to see if this would help.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did it settle after a week or two, or did you end up needing the wefts adjusted or removed?

For context, this is my first time ever having extensions, so I don’t know what’s normal!
Thanks

22" or 24" on 170 gr wavy hair extensions?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy 2A–2B human hair extensions, but I can't decide between 22" (170g) and 24" (170g).

I'm 5'4" (163 cm), and my natural hair reaches just above my chest (photo attached).

Just to clarify, in the photo my hair is straightened at the top, and I brushed out the waves, but my natural hair is actually wavy.

I'll also be modifying the wefts into individual 1g keratin-tip (K-tip) extensions, so they'll be installed strand by strand rather than worn as wefts.

Since both options weigh 170g, I'm wondering if the 24" version looks noticeably less dense than the 22" because the same amount of hair is spread over a longer length.

If you were in my position, would you go for more length or more visible density? I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences, especially if you've tried both lengths or have experience making your own K-tip extensions.

I will buy them on Goo Goo page.

Sorry I have use IA for translate my question, because my english is a little bit rough.

Thanks! 🙂

Does anyone have a good place to buy raw hair online?

My beautician did give a recommendation for where to buy raw hair, however I don't think I want to spend over $600 just in hair. Does anyone have any other suggestions to buy raw hair or hair that could last 1 to 2 years but more around $300 price point? TIA.

Hair Extension help!!!

HELP!! Hi everyone! I could really use some advice from anyone who's dealt with this.

I've been wearing Bellami 20" extensions for about 7 months now. I originally had a bob, so my stylist did have to thin my natural hair a bit to blend everything. Right now I have two rows of wefts with K-tips (or I-tips...I can never remember the difference ) around the top/360° area. I originally had tape-ins, but I absolutely hated them, so about a month ago I switched to this setup.

My biggest concern is that my natural hair feels SO much thinner overall. I know some of that is probably because I started with a bob and naturally fine hair, but it honestly feels much thinner than before. Has anyone experienced this, and did your hair eventually recover?

I'm currently taking Viviscal (I personally feel it works better for me than Nutrafol), and I use either The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum or minoxidil before wash days whenever I remember.

My second issue is with the extensions themselves. The ends get terrible split ends and seem to break off. I actually replaced all of the hair at the 6-month mark (both the wefts and the K-/I-tips), and I've noticed the exact same issue with both sets. The ends become dry, split, and visibly break off over time. I use heat protectant, sleep with a loose braid, and brush them carefully, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Is there anything you do to keep extension ends healthy longer?

PS: I know my stylist is amazing, so I really don't think this is an installation issue. I'm mostly looking for advice on caring for them better and anything I can do to help my natural hair stay as healthy and thick as possible.

Thank you so much!

Help!

I recently got three rows of sewn in wefts. I really want to be able to wear my hair straight, but I can’t stand that line in my hair where my natural hair ends. I have super fine hair as it is. 3 rows is such a huge difference, I don’t think I could handle another one. Could this possibly be solved with just a cut? I also love the length, I don’t want to have to cut it to my natural length to make it look good.
