Kobashi/Hayami to Ippo.

(Pasted from my tweet rant) the scene where Kobashi says “if you’re really that powerful then the losers can still be proud!”….i hope it gets brought up again when ippo is starting to reflect and wondering if he should return to fighting. Especially after kobashi’s talks with ippo in the dragon arc—

—meeting up with kobashi and hayami again in the retirement arc..I truly hope those two are the ones to bring ippo back. Specifcally everyone during the rookie champ era.. I hope ippo does them justice. Especially if hayami and kobashi become closer and eventually try to figure their future out. After all Kobashi asked eiji date about what it meant to make a comeback.

A little side tangent— hayami and kobashi are parallels to miyata and ippo, and opposites to eachother as well. So I really hope they do become close friends in the arc of ippo returning (assuming he does, lol)

Do you think Takamura should have another fight against a boxer in the level of Eagle/Hawk?

Basically, the title. Do you think Takamura should go for another weightclassbelt. And fight another World Champion?

And that WC should be in the level of Eagle/Hawk? Or even better than them?

could miyata actually counter every punch hayami throws in the shotgun or just get blown up?

trying to counter a punch when another one is already coming is quite hard imo

Summaries of each arc

Hello everyone,

I've been thinking about getting back to reading hajime no ippo for some time, I stopped reading in 2020 and I was at around chapter 1100.

The issue is that I've forgotten a lot of the important plot points and characters, and I sadly don't have time to read the 1000+ chapters again.

Do any of you know of any page or some videos that explains each arc with detail so that I can get back to reading Ippo again?

Thoughts about Ippo after 1000 chapters...

Hey guys, rereading after around half a decade. Anyone a bit let down on who Ippo fought against after Sawamura?

Granted I have no knowledge or real interest in real life Boxing but in the OPBF arcs he fought against so many gimmick fighters, I don't really understand the purpose of those fights, sure overcoming those gimmicks allowed him to build up experience and toughness but at the very top level those gimmicks are obsolete really. He had so many fights yet Miyata and Vorg best opponent in the ring outdid anything Ippo faced really. They at least were well rounded boxers and didn't rely on some bs or cheap moves to do well.

Some of the title defences in my opinion didn't add anything to the story, bums like Karasawa and that dude that was in Aoki's weight class. What a waste of time that was.

I just feel like Ippo had stagnated compared to his peers, yes I know about the Dempsey roll evolution and getting him ready for the world stage but every time in the ring Ippo gets hit like a million times, why isn't his defence being worked upon. After the Woli fight I really seen just how limited Ippo is and it was like that fight alone was his limit as a fighter.

And now Ippo is making a huge jump facing Alfredo, again sorry if I got some things incorrect, just got back into the series. Just feel like Ippo's career management hasn't been the best.

Bummed

I’ve been watching Hajime no Ippo, on Netflix. I typically watch my animes in English if possible, but if they are only Japanese, I don’t mind it. I’m kind of bummed because after the first season of watching the entire show in English, the rest is in Japanese. My brain doesn’t like that. I really loved the show, but it’s hard for me to make the transition because now I don’t know whose voice is who’s, if I look away for like one second, I feel like I could miss a huge plot point. It makes me sad because I really love the show. So much so that I considered reading the manga. And I have never wanted to read a manga, ever. To be clear, this is not me bagging on the show or the culture.

As a former martial artist and one who wants to return to the sport, I find this show, inspiring, entertaining, and absolutely slept on. If you’re ever looking for something to watch where they just throw straight hands, this is it. Hajime no Ippo is up there with my favorite animes. Honestly 10/10 worth the watch. I know it’ll never happen, but I hope they do a continuation. I never thought I’d be so entertained about an anime where the guy is completely normal. For everything is completely normal. But I straight up love this fucking show.

Will I lose much if I skip the take fight?

Haven't even started it, neither have I been spoiled on how the fight is, but from the setup it looks like pointless filler and, so far, I really, really dislike the character of Take. The kid thing is such a cheap resource for getting the viewer to like him and the fact that the set up has been big enough tells me the fight is going to be longer than it should be, and that a tomato can is going to pose more of a threat than ponchai or karasawa for absolutely no logical reason.

I get that he's a southpaw but the stance (usually sparring with a southpaw friend, who's fought amateur) isn't as much of a game changer in real life, as you can just prepare for it. A southpaw journeyman is still a journeyman with slightly different angles and footwork (although the difference benefits infighting heavily both for the southpaw and the orthodox). And the Shigeta thing was passable just because he had a very heavy jab and was set up as an elite outboxer.

I can also tell Ippo is gonna get slugged for a couple rounds and win by knockout, like he always does, so I can't see what that fight can add. Can I just skip it, or will I lose any relevant development?

Ippo's Retirement Theory.

In my last post, I said this about Ippo's retirement:

"Ippo's retirement isn't just him retiring for health reasons, it's him also training to be fighting world class boxers at the world class level - when he returns. To me, it's like both Ippo and Ricardo have the same motives. What it means to be strong. Enhancing his fight IQ alongside the final form of the Dempsey Roll."

I also have another theory about his retirement, too. Which kinda makes sense.

Since Ippo was heavily inspired by Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson was in prison for some time. Ippo's retirement is like a parallel to that as he improves his skills and fight IQ. Mike returned to the ring again, but he became more than a threat. Morigawa is probably doing that for Ippo, too!

Does the racism go away after this arc?

Hi, pretty new to this franchise, started watching the show and have been enjoying it for the first 10 episodes. Got to episode 13 when Jason shows up and the vibe suddenly got… really racist? Everyone is talking about how naturally strong black people are and are just biologically stronger, and while Jason himself is a nice guy everyone else is starting to act really weird except like Ippo who is as nervous as he normally is. Is this something contained to this arc? I am still enjoying the series but I kinda just want to know if this becomes a pattern whenever a non-Japanese boxer shows up, or if this is just an unfortunate one time thing that displays a different time.
