New Stratoliner Arrived Today!

Going to switch to this new hemp Stratoliner for the summer. I really like the sage green with the contrasting band and edge binding!
Second photo is with my felt Stratoliner for comparison. The felt is a walnut color from about 15 years ago, with a custom band added, but the binding is original.

New Old Hat

Vintage Stetson Roadrunner, I’m guessing 70s/80s. Huge crown and brim, bent kinda funny, but good online find. Thoughts?

East Village Hats - NYC

I visited six hat shops in New York City, looking for a hat with a flat brim. There are some very cool hat shops in the city, but by far East Village Hats is at the top. Julia Knox makes custom hats, I was able to choose the material, color, crown height, brim with, and ribbon color. She made the hat with an absolutely flat brim. Her hats are in the $300 to $400 range, but such a great deal for what you get. I saw quite a few Borsalino‘s and other hats that are not as nice or much higher prices. Check it out if you’re in New York City.

I have this hat, what is it considered?

Mostly an armor person and new to the hat scene, I’m assuming it has a similar amount of classifications and subclasses and nuance, and would like to know what people here think.

The pleather band it came with is already breaking somehow so I think I will replace it. Would it also be okay to embroider a pattern along the trim of the brim?

Do trucker hats suit me?

Does this style of cap suit me? I always feel like they kind of make my head look egg-ish 😅

(Ignore the stubble, I'm in a desperate need for a shave lol)

Looking for a quality brand

Hi I am looking for a low Bowler hat, I think I am describing that right. I have a bowler hat that is alot higher of a crown but I want a classic kind of lower crown bowler hat. But when I search for them it's kind of a mixed bag of being unsure if they will be of good quality.

(Not me in the picture just an example of the hat I'm looking for)

I am kind of looking for a brand that is well known who's hats are usually have very good quality, like Brixton or something like that.

The other issue is while I don't mind spending a bit of money on a hat from a reputable maker on Etsy, I have the issue or being in Canada, and with how tariffs are currently going it makes it a bit more expensive for anything ordered from the states.

bonus points if the brand also makes lots of other hats, as there are a few of my hats that I may need to replace in the coming years as some of my hats are very well worn and loved.

High snap up brim

More of a curiosity historical question. You see people wearing hats with high snap brims in historical photos besides Green Acres. No fedora I own would come close. Any thoughts.

Please help

Photo 1 is a black cowboy hat, felt and cheap but wanted to try the style. This is the smallest design and i feel like it looks comically large on my head despite this being the recommended size for my body.

Photo 2 is another cheap palm leaf cowboy hat, this one is even bigger and that plus the color looks like Im wearing it as a joke or something since it sticks out.

Photo 3 is some kind of western hat that I found on a shelf, I kind of like this one and feel it suits me well for daily wear but it is a cotton hat with the consistency of duck cotton (like a carhartt jacket but its a dorfman)

Photo 4 is my black straw cody james jamboree hat. This was my fancy hat until today, when I kept seeing my reflection and immediately thinking of the motorcycle dude from spongebob and now I cant take myself seriously in it.

Photo 5 is my first western ish style hat, it was a sun hat that I made into Arthur's hat from rdr2 and I wear it daily currently because its actually really comfortable and functions perfectly especially in wind and bad weather so although I do enjoy it, I am a husband and a father who has to go to family events and church and I need to consider the dignity of my other family members when it comes to this one.

If you havent seen my other post, Ive recently shaved my head and want to find some other hat style. Wore a mesh back trucker cap for years and I know from watching my co-workers that these offer almost no sun protection.

Any advice is appreciated, not sure if my clothes are the issue or if I dont know what Im looking for. I know I am overthinking it but a lot of it stems from the shaving of the head, which was due to my hairline thinning, and I have been disgusted by the "thinning on top" look since I was a kid.

New Panama Hat from Panama Hats Direct

I ordered this just over 5 weeks ago and it arrived today. I typically wear a western style felt hat, but it’s more nuanced than a typical cattleman - it’s a shorter crowned pointed telescope - it’s a little outdoors, a little western, a little outback…so now that it’s warming up I wanted something light but that would keep my head well shaded and cool to a degree.

I looked at many many cowboy straw options but just wasn’t finding what I wanted. Where I live in the Midwest there isn’t a ton of stores or selection - but in my never ending search I stumbled upon the Panama Hat. Of course it’s not western and wide-brimmed - but there are several crown shapes and brim sizes to choose from - so that lead me to panamahatsdirect.com.

I found a hat in inventory of the quality/size/and shape I wanted. I picked the hat band from a broad selection, and but a few weeks later (the bodies in inventory still need to be finished, sweat band sewn in, liner inserted, and hat band applied). As the hat passed through the finishing stages I received emails with pics of my actual hat showing the progress. It was a nice touch. Overall I’m extremely satisfied with them. I definitely feel like I received the quality I ordered, within the time frame they outlined, and it showed up precisely as desired. The hat shipped from Ecuador to the U.S., then from FL to me.

Patron crown shape, 59cm size, fino fino grade (these vary between makers, at this maker it is the highest “common” grade).
