Following advice from Masunaga - JMM Ringos

So I don’t know how I feel about these…they’re definitely a lot…well less, but also more, than I typically do. More stand out, more odd. I’m not sure I have the swagger for these.

The quality is EXCELLENT. As good as anything I’ve touched. Light. Lenses are great. Really impressed with them. Any styling failures are my own, and not the glasses.

Masunaga was correct - JMM are dang nice. I don’t think they look very Ringo - more Leon (and I hated that movie), or the kid from the Quick and the Dead (I loved that movie).

Also posting a photo of a buddy rocking them.

Johnny Ringo? Starr? Leon? The Quick and the Dead? JMM Ringo

I’m not sure how I feel about these - they’re small, but it’s intentionally so. I’ve never liked myself in round lenses, but these are sort of fun. Certainly different. I’m a bit on the fence as far as keep vs. sell/trade.

The quality on them is pretty excellent, and I really like looking through them. Also incredibly comfortable. I don’t really get a Ringo Starr vibe, despite the name.

Anyway - here they are. Questionable look notwithstanding.

Photo 3 is a buddy, who I think rocks them better than me.

Two pairs I’m really in love with

These are both extremely light, and both have a classic feel, but styling that I think is unique as well.

The Barton Perriera Stirlings have great side protection and a lot of wrap, but don’t look like sports glasses. I LOVE THIS PAIR.

Mykita Leona just fit like a glove, and I love the violet lens.

These are in the faves column.

Finally. Oliver Peoples Victory 58s. I know - the “right size” is 55, but these actually fit, and they’re cooler lenses.

When you’re burned you’ve got nothing. No cash, no credit, no job history.

The end of a long search

I have a large melon bald head, and I have never found a hat that I felt looked good on me. There are times I wanted more than just a baseball cap…protection and style…

I looked off and on for a long time, and it was always princess and the pea. Often the brims were too high.

I finally found one I like. I’m also going to get one on grey, and would love a black and a blue.

Can someone tell me why my head shape made this so difficult?

‘Scuse me while I kiss the Sky (Optics)

I’ve been really interested in Sky Optics since reading reviews here…ti frames with a glass lens? Sign me up! Not many do that, and fewer make it work (I do like Vuarnet). I especially loved the idea of a lens that split the ground between Rose and Brown. My only fear was the photochromatic part, which isn’t my favorite with the Serengeti lenses.

So I looked up directions to York and decided to make the pilgrimage. It was a very good decision. The store is AWESOME, and I loved the woman who helped me…I wish I could remember her name. Very knowledgeable and super friendly.

Additionally, and I had no idea, York the town is amazing…it has a great art scene, awesome restaurants and cafes, an incredible used book store…I had no idea. I’ve driven through York, I’ve been close, but I had no idea it was such a great little town. Like a cooler New Hope if you know that reference.

The store itself is like a candy store for sunglasses! Picture sunglass hut, but where the Luxotica garbage is 10%, and everything you actually want is the 90%. Vuarnet. DITA. Serengeti. MJ. Randolph. If you want rayban for some reason, you can get those too. A smorgasbord selection of glasses.

Going there, I expected to buy the Pilot, but I tried on various styles and sizes and, to my surprise, I ended up with the Foils. I love the wrap so much. They fit like a glove and are incredibly light and comfy for a glass pair. They have the best spring hinge I’ve ever felt (I normally don’t like spring hinges, but these are terrific). Overall they remind me a lot of the Maui Jim Kahuna - which has always been a top of the mountain pair for me. These are lighter, and more comfy. The lens might even be better.

Despite my concerns, they were amply protective on the drive…darker than Serengeti I think. Read 954s lens review - he’s obviously far more knowledgeable than I.

Anyway - I love this pair…this is the sort of pair you can get if you only have one pair. It does it all and looks reasonably good doing it. Highly recommend the shop and the glasses.

It’s excessive, but hopefully some here will appreciate it.

“Only” 8 pairs are Rayban (all B&L).

My first ever Wayfarer

Late 60s, pretty good shape. Some scratches to lenses. Still, definitely channeling my Mick Jagger here. Actually, I believe Frank Black wore them as well.

My Lindberg Collection

I’m not sure what it is…I like the quiet elegance, and the beautiful detail. The light weight and comfort is definitely also a major factor. Whatever the reason, I definitely love Lindberg.

From top left clockwise:

  1. 1852 - Buffalo
  2. 7433 - Strip Titanium (office)
  3. 4260 - Blok, green transitions (my faves)
  4. 8912 - thintanium sunnies
  5. 1266 - Acetanium, blue tint
  6. 6507 - NOW (office)

Through the lens of watching baseball

Say what you will about skilynx, but there’s no better lens for watching a ball game.

What’s your favorite pair for a game?

Another Blok Head post

I don’t think the photos capture just how much the groove colors pop! I absolutely love these - heaven.

Lindberg 4260 (I’ve been waiting a WHILE, and totally worth it).

Help ID’ing a pair of Shooter (I think II?)

Hi folks, I believe these are real. The weight is right. I see markings on the nose pads.

I don’t see markings on the frame, but I might not be looking in the right place, or it might have been too small to catch.

Any help would be appreciated authenticating, and/or dating.

If they’re fake they’re awfully good ones.

Another 260 Matsuda post

I love how these look on face! The lenses are definitely much lighter than I’m accustomed to (protection). The overall feel and construction doesn’t seem like it’s on point with my Lindbergs, or even the Vuarnet ti frames, but I’m hardly an expert either.

Little things, like the temple tips shift slightly. The hinge doesn’t feel as nice. The nose pads feel cheap. Not sure if these are lower end on their scale, but a little disappointed overall given the gushing I’ve seen. Don’t get me wrong - for what I paid - AWESOME. But if I’d dropped $700, I’d be upset.

I think I have a new favorite pair of sunglasses.

Until now, I thought my Mykitas were the most comfortable, light sunglasses in existence. These are lighter, and even MORE. They’re both amazing on face, but I think these have the edge.

Both have great lenses.

I think I like how these look a touch better as well, and I loved how my Mykitas looked.

Kind of neat old clip ons

I don’t know anything about these, but picked them up because I thought they were kind of cool. Two pairs seem like very nice glass, and are actually quite clean. One seems like plastic.

Seller claims that all of them are from the 20s 30s and 40s, but I suspect the plastic pair might be newer just based on feel .

Brand Loyalty? Diversity?

I’m a relative newbie to this world; I’ve always loved sunglasses, but I stayed in the middle class mainstream. Maui Jim primarily.

My journey began, as so many do, with a mistake. I went to lens crafters because they had convenient hours and locations. I’ll keep this short - I thought the exam there was fine, but the purchase of glasses was a disaster. I don’t want to make this TL/DR with the full story, but holy flaming elephant extrament, Luxotica can burn in hell.

I knew there had to be better. I watched videos (yep, started with Robert). I read posts here. I ended up getting my first pair of prescription glasses - Lindberg NOW as office progressives. Later, I bought other pairs of Lindbergs…

I seem to be very fixated on Lindberg. I love their aesthetic. I love the focus on comfort and feel. I like the minimalist ethos. I LOVE titanium - going back to my cycling roots.

Is it weird to find one brand you really like and to stick with it? Are most of you more omnivorous in preferences?

What brand(s) do you focus on, and why is that your sweet spot?

Hoping to learn more from other people’s thought patterns. Other brands I am attracted to are Mikita (I do have a pair of their sunnies) and Masunaga. I tend not to like “bold”, or over wrought.

Holy Grails and White Whales

Do you have a holy grail pair you are chasing, or hoping to acquire one day?

Is there a white whale out there that you tirelessly and obsessively hunt?

What is it?

Why that pair?

For me, as an enthusiastic newbie to this world, I really want a pair of the Oliver Peoples Victory’s - yes, I loved Burn Notice.
