Backup removed photos and videos, how to get them back?

I just upgraded to 50gb of icloud storage, and I wanted to sync my photos with the icloud. My iphone said it could only start that once I made a backup, so I decided to make a backup. I noticed that after starting this backup, photos and videos started getting removed from my phone. I decided to stop the backup, and now I have a backup of 9,1gb on my phone (which is not nearly all of my storage) and I don’t know how to get my photos and videos out of it. Any advice?

Photos Deleted in Photos App but still Available in Google Photos

I recently just transferred all of my data from my iPhone 13 to iPhone 17 after switching carriers. After transferring, I noticed that all my photos from the years 2023-2026 have been deleted. I checked the recently deleted tab and nothing is there. However, I can still access the photos throughout this timeline in Google Photos. Is this okay and should I do anything about this? Why did this happen?

Help with transferring iCloud back up to new iPhone

I recently bought the 17 pro. I was setting up following the assistant manager, and realized the back up it transferred didn’t actually include everything (photo album wasn’t transferred at all, among other things).

I realized I didn’t use the unlimited back up feature for transferring data between iphones. So now the new phone is already set up with missing things.

I found the unlimited transfer option on my old phone (it’s currently backing up in progress).

My question is, once that back up on the old iphone is complete (after however many hours it takes), how do I then transfer that to my new iphone? Am I supposed to reset the new iphone and start from scratch? How badly did I mess up here?

iCloud & Custom Domain Name

I am having a heck of a time transferring my email hosting from my current provider to Apple iCloud.

My domain uses cloud flare and every time I try move my email away from my local email hosting company to Apple iCloud I have issues with Cloudflare and Mx records.

Anyone else use iCloud with custom domain names?

Watch out with your passwords

We use Family iCloud and my wife and I share passwords. One day she couldn’t find them — I checked my devices too, gone. Not in Recently Deleted either. It coincided with setting up a new MacBook Air.

I called Apple. After weeks of back-and-forth they basically told me it’s more about preventing it from happening again — they can’t recover them.

I told them this shakes my trust completely, because tomorrow photos or documents could vanish too. They said passwords and banking info “can’t be stored on their servers.” But if I have them synced to iCloud, they’re already on your servers! Weak excuse.

What I find unbelievable: they don’t provide any backup of your passwords. They’re not stored locally if you use iCloud sync, and iCloud doesn’t back them up either. If shared passwords disappear from Family Sharing, they’re gone for everyone — not even the original owner keeps them.

TL;DR: Lost all my shared passwords due to an Apple bug. Can’t recover them because they’re not backed up anywhere in Apple’s system. Incredible.

Can we please get a middle round option like 4tb? 2tb for 9.99 is too small. 6tb for 29.99 is crazy.

iCloud+ with 2 TB storage
$9.99 per month
iCloud+ with 6 TB storage
$29.99 per month

Is there still no way to turn off icloud sync of ibooks without it nuking everything?

Several years ago I turned on icloud sync to try and fix some issue assuming I could just switch it back off but switching it back off just deleted all of the ebooks from the device instead of just turning the sync off.

Is there any way today to return it to local only without having to manually go through and reload every single ebook by hand?

Or is it still the same ♫ Hotel California ♫?

Edit: Ah stupid me I forgot macs have icloud too, I'm talking about on iPad.

mi conviene fare i cloud

Unable to complete iCloud backup after freeing up storage.

I have an older phone (Iphone XR) and I’m going to upgrade it. The problem is that I cannot back up my storage, no matter what I do. I’ve deleted over 3k photos (I’m pretty sure it’s stayed at 4.94 GB out of 5 GB the whole time,) and turned off almost every app that could be saved to iCloud. I just want to keep my pictures and my passwords.

iCloud backup ADVICE PLEASE!

So my iPhone is 1tb and I’m almost out of storage. iCloud normally backs up automatically every night but it hasn’t for like 6 days now and I have tried leaving it for hours on the charger and even manually clicking it nothing has worked. I reset network settings, restarted, etc., and today I turned my backup off and back on. Now it says my next backup size is the same size as what’s already backed up (like +900gb) and previously it would only be like +15. Did I just screw myself by doing this or will it still backup next incrementally like it usually does, therefore will the next backup not be so large as it says. I am stressing out here 😞

Downloading icloud photos

What kind of shit is 8 MB/s apple?????

I am trying to download my photos of icloud as I recently brought a macbook pro 2011 for cheap and put a 1TB ssd in it. I am using the macbook for my ipods and ripping cds. However, I am also using it to bake up my photos off my iphone 11 as icloud has no space left… Backing the photos up from my phone worked no problem, but trying to get a copy of the ones on icloud is turning out to be a nightmare.

I sent a request to download my icloud photos data about a week ago and only just got the email saying its ready yesterday. Already why is it taking a week to send me a download link?? I then connected my macbook with an ethernet cable to the back of my router and started the download (Its only 36GB). Normally when downloading large files this way i get around 70-80 MB/s and it takes like 10 min to download a 60 GB file. But apple cant help them selves, it averages 8 MB/s with peaks of about 20. So I left it to download.

After several failed attempts, mac went to sleep, connection timed out, and so on. I decided to use my macbook air 2020. This laptop only has 20 GB free (any more storage costs as much as a car at this point) it also has no ports, so i connected a usb dongle and plugged in an sd card and a second dongle for usb a to ethernet. Logged into icloud, changed safari download location to the usb and left it for a couple hours. Yes it was downloading at the same speed as the 2012 macbook (sooo much innovation there apple!).

It downloaded, I unplugged it and took it to the macbook pro to move the photos onto it. Safari decides to auto extract files, i didnt notice. Safari decided to delete the I extracted version while it was extracting it. I am now left with a useless 36GB “.zip.download” file. Thanks apple!

Parents about to lose all their photos- help

I am not an apple customer really, so I’m really not sure what to do. My mother died 4 years ago and she had her laptop and MacBook and iPhone all synced to the cloud, we think. My father was able to look at photos across all devices.

He recently got a warning that he’s been ignoring for about a month. I can’t post photos but it essentially says “some of your files will be deleted in 27 days. Using 36gb of 5gb limit. We will need to delete files to bring account under limit. Free up storage or upgrade your plan.”

Now, he’s not interested in using the cloud himself. He has memory devices he could use instead. But this is a lifetime of his late wife’s family photos and photos of her that we’d be destroyed to lose. I’m not familiar with where all these photos are, I don’t even know if he can log into the cloud without her password, but what are the next steps to deal with this?

He says that the photos are saved onto the computer itself but I need to be 100% sure

Edit: thanks everyone. I typed up this question in a bit of a panic on my phone when I went to visit yesterday. Turns out it was dropbox, not icloud, and we were able to gain access with a password and download everything. Thank you all for your feedback

iCloud in Android

I'm planning on buying an android phone, but I got all my pictures on iCloud. How can I manage to transfer all of them on my new phone? Is there a way to synchronize or access to my iCloud on an android phone?

I know I can transfer all of the pictures on my pc and then get them on the new phone, I was just wondering if there's another way or if there's a way to link the phone to iCloud to keep using it

Someone help I deleted something and I can’t get it back.

I was trying to clear out some storage on my iPad, and wanted to delete Notes because on my iPad, I never used it. I deleted it, and I went to open my notes on my IPhone because I wanted to double check it didn’t delete there (because iPad and iPhone logged into same account.) yes I know I’m dumb anyway. So it’s gone. I called Apple support and they couldn’t help me because for some gosh darn reason my recently deleted folder was gone???? I know for sure I didn’t delete it off iCloud, only to turn off. Can someone help me?

iCloud photos not syncing

i cleared up my icloud photos by downloading and deleting them through desktop icloud, but the photos I deleted were still available in my phone, icloud wont sync those changes I made and it says I am on full storage. Now when I go to settings, when I go and clicked ‘manage storage’ it says I only occupy 14% of my current plan. Is upgrading to a higher storage temporarily the only way? Or is there a way to sync the changes I made via desktop to my phone, because I already deleted tons of videos and photos and I can still see them in my app 🥺

Not getting confirmation code emails

Hi so I recently bought an iPad and I’ve been wanting to get the progress from my iPhone synced. I was out of storage so I figured that I was not getting codes for that reason so I got 2TB of space but I won’t get the confirmation codes emails anyways. Is this something about filtering? How do I fix this 😭😭

How to unmerge photo libraries

My mom and I are on the same iCloud, and she accidentally flipped a switch that merged both of our photo libraries. There’s now over 64,000 photos on my phone spanning across over 10 years and it’s a complete mess, I can’t find any of my own photos anymore because they’re completely mushed between hers. She did this a few days ago, is there any way to revert it back to how it was a couple days prior? There’s no way I can manually sift through over 60,000 pictures, but I don’t want to start fresh because there’s also over a decades worth of my own photos I want to keep preserved
