IQ System is flawed?

There's a book that completely flips the entire IQ system and testing upside down. The author attempts to destroy this model and create a logical system. Its akin to comparing the imperial measurement system to the metric system. The title is the Cost of Being Number One by Thomas McCarthy. Thoughts?

Online IQ scores between 120–125: Could my actual IQ be 130+?”

Hello! I have taken several online IQ tests and obtained the following scores:

Mensa Denmark: 124

Mensa Spain Preliminary Test: 121

Raven’s Test: 125

AREALME Quick IQ Test: 120

On the other hand, I got 12 out of 18 questions correct on Mensa’s practice test, so I may have a chance of qualifying for Mensa.

Would you recommend taking a full-scale assessment, such as the WAIS-IV, to find out whether I could reach an IQ of 130?

For me, it would be very important to know whether I am gifted, as it would explain many of the things I have experienced throughout my life that seem to align with what I have studied about giftedness.

Thank you for your time! 🤍

If Half the Population Has An IQ Below 100, How Are Majoring in STEM or Going to Trade School Going to End Poverty?

The left (usually) wants to deny IQ entirely and claim it’s just a tool by racists and the right tends to acknowledge it, but then argue that it can be overcame with hard work, but if a person’s processing speed is just inherently lower, how are they to succeed? (Admittedly, some trades probably don’t take an IQ of 100.)

People with above average IQs: do you find movies boring because they are too predictable?

I’ve had this issue since I was a child - any movie which I watch feels extremely predictable. It’s really difficult to think about films which I couldn’t figure out half way through - maybe masterpieces like ”Oldboy” or ”Parasite”.
It’s fair to note: I don’t view myself as an extremely smart person with superior pattern recognition. I’ve never tested my own iq but I am pretty sure I am not a genius.
So, people with certified high iq’s, are movies predictable to you and does that predictability make them boring to watch?

What actually is Mensa, and is it worth joining?

Keep seeing "Mensa" brought up in these threads and realized I don't actually know much about it beyond "smart people club," so I did a bit of digging. Turns out it's basically the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world. The only requirement to join is scoring in the top 2% on an approved IQ test.

What surprised me is that it's not really about academics or achievement, it's literally just the score that gets you in. Once you're in, it's more of a social thing, local meetups, puzzle events, special interest groups, that kind of stuff. Anyone here actually a member?

Can You Figure Out Which Triangle Comes Next?

Hi everyone, we’re back with another puzzle.
First, thank you to everyone who took part in our previous puzzle. We received several interesting answers, including some alternative interpretations that made the discussion even better.
As usual, we picked three community explanations that stood out:
u/Small-Tailor6967 — We chose this explanation because it clearly connected both key parts of the pattern: the last shape carrying over into the next box and the shape with the most vertices being shaded. It also explained clearly why those rules lead to B.
u/ChaosRealigning — A very clean and concise explanation. They identified both the continuity rule and the shading rule without overcomplicating the solution.
u/vexedthespian — Another strong explanation that independently recognized the relationship between consecutive groups and that the shape with the most sides is the one that gets shaded.
Thank you to them, and to everyone else who shared a solution. We really enjoy seeing the different ways people approach these puzzles.
Now it’s time for our new puzzle.
Take a close look at the sequence in the image and choose the option you think should replace the question mark.
But don’t just give us the letter. Tell us why you chose it and explain the pattern you found. We’re especially interested in the reasoning that leads you to your answer.
As with our previous puzzles, we’ll select some of the best community explanations and feature them on our website with the Reddit usernames of the people who wrote them.
You can also view the puzzle and submit your solution directly on our website:
https://whats-your-iq.com/en/questions/pattern-recognition/which-triangle-comes-next-in-the-sequence
So, what’s your answer: A, B, C, or D?
And more importantly: what pattern do you see?

what does this tell me?

https://preview.redd.it/r7khjimzqzjh1.png?width=2302&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d6dbe45ecfbe588d584c6d17765c12bea5a34c2

i have been told to be bright for most of my life by my teachers and family but I have never really asked myself what my iq would be, nor has anyone recommended me to have it assessed. could anyone tell me what the score means and in what areas of life it may become noticeable for me? and could anyone evaluate my profile? English is not my first language and half of the audios in the test where they give you math problems were mute for some reason so I had to skip those

Why I don't take IQ tests and my own score too seriously

Many people view IQ tests as an absolute measurement of intelligence, but I believe they are fundamentally flawed as a standalone metric for several reasons

High Fluctuation: Test performance is heavily influenced by temporary physical and mental states, such as sleep quality, stress levels, fatigue, and general mood. A person's score can easily fluctuate by 10 to 15 points from one day to another.

Narrow Scope: Popular tests (like Mensa) measure almost exclusively fluid intelligence via matrix reasoning. They completely ignore other critical components of cognition, such as working memory, verbal reasoning, processing speed, and spatial awareness.

Practice Effect: Repeating these types of tests trains your brain to recognize recurring patterns. You learn the "rules of the game," which inflates your score over time without actually increasing your underlying general intelligence.
For a test to yield truly accurate and meaningful results, it would need to be conducted over multiple days using a wide variety of comprehensive, multi-dimensional battery tests to account for daily variables and cognitive breadth. Single-session geometric tests simply do not tell the whole story.

Note: For context, my tested IQ is 135+. This is not a case of sour grapes or a blind complaint because of a low score. However, despite scoring high, I refuse to share this number as a true representation of my intellect. Given the clear limitations of these tests, ignoring these facts just to show off would be hypocritical.

Can You Figure Out Which Set of Shapes Comes Next?

Hi everyone,
First, a big thank you to everyone who took part in our previous puzzle. We really enjoyed reading through the different solutions and seeing how many different approaches could lead to the answer.
As with our previous puzzles, we selected three community explanations that stood out:
Cyrrex91 was selected for finding a creative alternative pattern. Instead of following the top and bottom sequences separately, they approached the puzzle through the total number of dots and still found a path to the correct answer.
BekindConan stood out for giving a clear and well-structured explanation of both sequences, including an interesting way of describing the upper pattern through doubling and halving.
nunya_busyness1984 was selected for not only identifying the numerical pattern correctly, but also recognizing that the unusual positioning of the dots was irrelevant to the actual solution.
Thank you to all three, and to everyone else who shared their reasoning.
You can read the full official explanation of the previous puzzle, along with the selected community solutions, on our website. The selected explanations are featured there with their Reddit usernames.
Now, on to our new puzzle.
This one requires a closer look at the shapes, their properties, their positions, and how the groups change across the sequence.
Which option should come next: A, B, C, D, or E?
More importantly, tell us why you chose it. We are looking forward to seeing the different patterns and explanations you find.
We’ll review the responses again and select some of the most interesting explanations to feature alongside the official solution on our website.
