Star Wars: Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight Xbox beta released
https://github.com/GTTeancum/OpenJKDF2ogx (install instructions on the Releases page) - disclaimer, AI helped me build this. I'm in my 40's and haven't been an "in the trenches" programmer for many years. I work more as a project manager these days. So while I didn't write all the code, I knew how to direct it.
This is a fork of https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/OpenJKDF2 by shinyquagsire23. All hail, because frankly having JK and MotS open source was always my unicorn, and thanks to them and other contributors, we have it.
This is a public beta, so expect bugs. You can report them here. https://github.com/GTTeancum/OpenJKDF2ogx/issues -- In the same folder as your game you'll find a file called debug_openjkdf2.txt. This is our debug log. Drag and drop that into the text window when submitting a bug and it will attach that log.
FEATURES
- Full single player support for Jedi Knight
- Experimental multiplayer support for the Mysteries of the Sith expansion
- Experimental support for mod maps (single an multiplayer) - but not any mods that change gameplay
- Split screen multiplayer
- Experimental System Link multiplayer. Expect issues here as I don't have two consoles to test that functionality
- Cutscene support. You will need to run the included converter in the download to convert the original SMK and SAN cutscenes to Xbox XMV
FUTURE PLANS (WORK IN PROGRESS - NOT IN THIS BUILD)
- Better dynamic lighting, including colored lighting in JK
- Dynamic saber drawing -- not just a texture on a stick
- Widescreen support, possibly up to 720p
- Bot support. They work, they're just not smart enough yet. Regardless how far this gets I'll include them at whatever level they get to. Dumb bots are better than no bots.
- Guest characters (Star Wars only). I already have Dash Rendar from Shadows of the Empire and several character models from the PS1 game Masters of Teras Kasi converted by our community members. They just aren't fully implemented. They will stay at the same 90's quality level, so no modern models
- More shaders. I.E. if a textured wall has a "light" in the texture, it should glow and emit a bit of light
- Overall though, the goal here is to keep this looking like JK/MotS, I just wanna shave a year or two off their age
Jedi Academy Controls
Is this game better played with the modern port controller or the old mouse and keyboard layout?
STAR WARS JEDI KNIGHT II: JEDI OUTCAST (PC Windows) (Bootleg Distribution)
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is a 2002 first and third-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software for Windows and Mac OS. Westlake Interactive ported the game to Mac OS X, while the Xbox and GameCube versions were ported by Vicarious Visions; most versions were published by Activision and LucasArts, with only the Mac OS version published by Aspyr. The game is a sequel to 1997's Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, and the third main installment in the Star Wars: Jedi Knight series. The single-player campaign, set in the fictional Star Wars expanded universe two years after the Mysteries of the Sith expansion for Dark Forces II, follows returning protagonist Kyle Katarn, a mercenary working for the New Republic and former Jedi who cut his connection to the Force. Katarn must return to his Jedi ways to stop a branch of the Imperial Remnant led by the Dark Jedi Desann from empowering their army with the Force. Jedi Outcast was developed using a more powerful game engine, id Tech 3. The hack and slash combat introduced in Dark Forces II was heavily reworked, becoming the main focus of the gameplay instead of the shooter elements, which are prominent only during the first few missions of the game. Players may wield blasters, lightsabers, and Force powers to engage enemies, with the latter being recommended in later stages of the game, as numerous lightsaber-wielding enemies are introduced. Jedi Outcast also features a multiplayer mode that allows players to compete in several different game modes online or over a local area network. This video was recorded from a "bootleg" copy of the game distributed on a physical DVD that includes a game installer in several languages (German, Spanish, English and French) and includes by default the Brutality mod and the option to play as Darth Maul.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II DVD Menu
What if Jedi Knight had been released on DVD alongside the prequels and the original trilogy? What would the DVD menu look like? Thought it'd be fun to find out, so I made this.
Its always morally correct to slice a stormtrooper in half.
Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 screenshot- cut content?
This zoomed in screenshot is from the interview video, the wonderful Jason Court did with Films in Review. (@ the 2:06 mark)

It's from some magazine early preview of the game... and looks to be an unused cutscene from the game!?
I'm surprised this hasn't been found in the game files or anything. I found one link which mentions a cut level with speeder bikes... but no picture until I saw this image, and I put two and two together.
https://tcrf.net/Star_Wars:_Jedi_Knight:_Dark_Forces_II
This page on cut content mentions and includes a speeder bike sound- but no model is in game. Was it deleted- so not even in files at all?
https://www.unseen64.net/2008/10/14/jedi-knight-dark-forces-ii-pc-beta/
Page mentions a racing level, and Tusken Raiders (Grave Tuskens) on speeder bikes... but the original page link is broken...
*it also shows an image of what looks like Maw in an unused cutscene- so perhaps there are some more unused stuff.
The only other reference of a speeder bike I know of is some art of the tuskens by the game's concept artist Peter Chan which shows it.
I guess most of this stuff is lost media? That's a shame...
Map Export
So i'm getting into mapping (really exciting) and i followed the video tutorial series on the JKhub youtube channel, but they never discuss how to get the map into the game after you've finished. I have all of the files that were exported in the same folder with all of the other multiplayer maps for the game, but it doesn't show up in the map list. I have tried looking through the articles on the jkhub website but haven't had any luck finding anything. Does anyone know how to export your map to the game or have a link to something that covers this? TIA
20 years later, I finally completed jedi academy and I feel bittersweet
I used to have jedi academy on game cube back in the day, but me and my mate were too young to work out how to get past the kejim outpost, and I don't think YouTube tutorials were such a thing back then
More than 20 years later I bought the game on switch 2 and with the help of my man lightningboltforever on youtube (and spamming recharge health and armour cheats lol) I made it through. What an ruthlessly hard and sometimes unapologetically unclear game.
In the same breath, what an absolute masterpiece. The fluidity of combat, feeling and variety of weapons, the sound and level design, the way the story plays out not just in cutscenes but also in playable moments (eg when luke first drops down out of nowhere, or when desann appears behind you in the mirror). It's really something special.
Im left now with a mix of nostalgia and also disappointment if you think what came after this era of star wars games. Jedi knight series, rogue squadron , clone wars, original battlefront series - we really were living in the golden age of star wars games and nothing could ever reach these heights again. I remember my 8 year old self fantasising over how star wars games of the future would look. Imagine the graphics, imagine the freedom.
We'll we're now in the future and I find myself longing for the era where you could feel the love that developers put into their games. Anyway that's all I have to say
Jedi outcast: What a game ♥️

I heard about Jedi academy mods like Movie duels, galactic legacy and Knights of the force
And now im confused on which to download
Should I download all of them or just 1 like
Which one is better
I've been working on some new lighting features for JKA. How shiny do like your stormtroopers?
Configuration help for JKA
Hey, all! Long time player, first time asker. I have 2 requests:
I can't enable realistic sabers in single player mode. None of the inputs work and it says i don't have permission to do it, even after inputing "helpusobi1" in the main menu.
I remember way back in the day some multiplayer servers had it to where there wasn't any fall damage no matter how high you fell from, but every server i've been on now does have fall damage, so i was just wondering is there some sort of setting/cheat that i'm missing that can disable fall damage, even if it's just a private match.
Thank you all in advance!
Five years ago since I finished my Dark Forces II intro remake in Unreal
Still very happy with how this turned out, had a blast making it, and can't believe it's been five years since I finished it. It's playable, and if you wanna try it out you can download it for free:

I’m Overhauling Jedi Academy’s Force Powers – Rank 4, New Mechanics & More
I'm working on a large-scale Jedi Academy / OpenJK single-player mod, and part of it is a major Force system overhaul.
I'm adding Rank 4 powers, but I'm also reworking existing powers and their lower ranks — Lightning, for example, has been significantly redesigned.
Push IV has increased range and power, a two-handed version, and enemies can take impact damage and drop their weapons when slammed into walls.
The goal isn't just higher damage, but new mechanics and more distinct progression while keeping the original Jedi Academy feel.
What do you think of this direction? Which Force powers would you change? What would you want from Rank 4 abilities?
If anyone's interested, I'll post some gameplay footage soon!
Sneak peak of some lego Jedi Outcast stuff I'm working on!
Sneak peak of something I'm working on!
My Mecabricks workflow is a bit of a mess right now... I can't quite decide which head/face print I want for Kyle. the newer Qui-gon face looks like he does in game, but its' missing the grey which the other face has on the left. I think that's a face of Aragorn from LOTR? I'm not sure. But it's too harsh looking, and feels too defined. Kyle's a serious guy but I think it looks too much like Joel from TLU... This is all work in progress. For weapons I have Kyle's Bryarr pistol, the electro-wrench thing, an explosive pack, and the EMP gun you use on the big droid walker things.
