I’ve been reflecting on influencer culture & what makes Missy K a bad influencer but she’s someone who has a huge following so like how/why this happened. I think she demonstrated that so perfectly this weekend. First, she made several posts about her friend’s wedding and the prep work she was doing. Even myself as a certified hater was waiting for her to post literally anything, I wanted to see her dress. Pictures of the venue, all the things. And most influencers to do post on their story in real time, especially if they’re doing something big because activities = engagement = money. But she hasn’t made a single post this entire weekend.

Which maybe the bride said no social media posts that applied to everyone. I think most people who have an active social media account will post on their story if they’re at a party or wedding or what have you. Influencer or not. I find this kind of unlikely because it would be hard to police and at certain point, everyone is just having fun. But maybe her friend said Missy k specifically can’t post.

Missy K is likely going to make a post that says something like “oh I took a break from social media so I could be present,” which she does quite often, especially here recently. But then she’ll like post a video of her weird clips of her secretly filming so it’s like she was on her phone & making content to post later?

I guess my overall point is that I’ve never seen an influencer not being consistently engaged with her followers but yet still has such a huge following. She’s teased this wedding for a week but then goes completely silent when it is happening and it’s like she keeps people waiting. Influencer culture is annoying yes, but there’s always pictures, stories, and maybe tik tok dances or something silly/cute. And yes, some things are private and influencers probably keep a lot of moments to themselves but this feels a lot different to me.

All this to say that, this is one of the reasons why I find Missy K so fascinating (derogatory). Cause this is her job & her livelihood and I just don’t see her hustling at all. And I wonder if she’s noticed a drop in revenue because she does go on blocking & deleting sprees. But would we like influencers more if they posted less but the posts were more meaningful?

disclaimer: not defending kaitlyn and these are just my opinions!

1. post college life - she has really regressed. she could have used her degree AND she seemed to have academic potential. i understand taking a few months to have a break and figure stuff out, but it has been a year and a half basically. if you have a degree, use it!

2. academic potential - she seemed to work hard while she was in school but maybe experienced burnout later on. i guess post college life was a perfect time for her to quite literally do nothing and have no responsibilities. burnout happens to all of us, but you have to work through it and get back into a routine at some point.

3. anxiety - i believe part of her anxiety stems from being an only child to a single parent. she’d talk about how she hated going to school because she didn’t want to be away from her mom and i guess she missed out on a lot because of it. she’s probably making up for it right now but she’s being a bit irresponsible.

4. relationships - we all know she has a small family, but she doesn’t seem to have friends either (or many). i guess her having a small family and not having many or any friends go hand and hand. she seems more avoidant than attached since she’s by herself a lot. she likely enjoys solitude, which is fine, but don’t you get depressed after a while and wish you had girl friends your age to hang out with? owen can’t be the only person you hang out with.

5. her mom - i know kaitlyn is an adult fully capable of making her own decisions, but i think her mom also needs to sit down and talk to her and tell her to use her degree. she can still do social media on the side but she needs to get an actual job. i’m glad she and her mom are close but kaitlyn can’t keep going down this path forever.

6. her car - i don’t hate it, but maybe i’m biased because i like the color pink. she shouldn’t be filming while driving though.

7. coco - she probably missed having pets, but she should not have gotten a dog right after she moved in. she also wanted to move her cat in at some point. do we know if coco is fine around cats? the cat might be okay since kaitlyn had a dog in illinois, but idk for sure.

8. overconsumption - i don’t understand the need for all the skincare products and clothes. i don’t think she struggled financially growing up and she seemed to always have nice things (that’s the only reason i could think of for overconsumption).

9. pajamas - everyone wears pajamas in public at some point. i get not wanting to change clothes, but you can also throw on a hoodie and a pair of sweats (or a t shirt and shorts since she’s in georgia). i think the pajama sets should be an at home outfit and not worn in public.

that’s about all i could think of, but i just wanted to share my personal opinions and speculations about some stuff.

I dunno. When I've been in wedding parties, getting nails done/pretty prep for the big day was always an EVENT, ya know? Group activity kind of thing. Also, did I miss any posts about a bachelorette party/weekend? 🤔🤷‍♀️
