Hot Take:If you light fireworks in a residential area you're an inconsiderate person.

Not only is it just straight up annoying to have random loud noises ALL WEEKEND, but it's extremely inconsiderate to the other people who live there. Consider the parents who are just trying to get their baby to sleep but can't because someone decided their fun (that they could take somewhere else) is more important. Consider the Veterans who more than likely live near you. Consider the animals who get so scared they hurt themselves. Don't get me wrong fireworks are fun, but there is a time and a place. Your driveway in the middle of town is not that place.

Does Anyone Know of a Hiking Club in La Crosse?

Hi everyone!

I recently moved to La Crosse and I don't know anyone here yet. I'd really like to get out more and start meeting people.

I love hiking, so I was wondering if there are any hiking groups, meetups, or places where I could join others for a hike.

I know a lot of people have been in the same situation based on what I've seen in this subreddit, so I figured I'd ask.

Anyway, good luck to everyone else who's new here, and I just wanted to say I'm really enjoying La Crosse so far. It feels like such a welcoming town.

I'm not a student.

One Year Ago Today, Derrick Van Orden Posted One of the Dumbest Tweets Ever

Today marks the first anniversary of Derrick Van Orden celebrating the idea of millions of Americans losing their health insurance and food assistance. If you're not familiar with Derrick Van Orden, this is who he is.

The primary election is on August 11 - just over a month away. Emily Berge and Rebecca Cooke are both running to challenge Derrick Van Orden. Neither candidate would celebrate something like this.

US cellular to T-Mobile merge

I’ve had US cellular for over 10 years. As of recent, my service has automatically switched to T-mobile. Has anyone had any issues with this? How are the T-mobile stores in La Crosse?

"Lake Onalaska" circa 1931

I was digging through some old maps at UW-L and came across an old one showing what would become Lake Onalaska from 1931.

I put it on my website and overlayed it with a modern Google Earth photo. It gives interesting insight into what lays under the lake.

Brightspeed

Just your periodic reminder or if you're new around here to avoid Brightspeed like the plague. We moved, cancelled our service, and they still kept charging us. I eventually got a refund but I had use all of the Karen Dark Arts. I'm fully expecting to be charged again next month. They will haunt you forever. If Brightspeed is your only option to get internet, consider going off grid.

Anyone else notice traffic lights not changing sometimes?

The light at the intersection of La Crosse St. and West Ave. for example. This morning it cycled through several changes and never turned green. Cars were collecting behind me and eventually I had to go through the red (during what should have been geen). The other cars also followed me through it.

And some lights don't change to yellow after the countdown gets to zero.

Bass fishing from shore spots?

Just getting into fishing in general and am trying to find more places to catch bass. I've mainly been going down to Pettibone lagoon since that's where I've been panfishing before, haven't had a ton of luck catching bass down there though. Are there any other good spots I can go to and fish from shore?

Five Star Eggrolls "temporarily" closed?

It's my favorite place. On door dash and Google maps they've been marked as closed for like at least a week, and I can't find any info :^(
