I used Claude Code to build an iPhone app, Apple Watch app, and landing page… now it has 1,500+ users

I wanted to share a project I built with Claude Code and also explain the why behind it for anyone trying to build something similar.

The app is called LOC8. It started from a real problem I noticed in law enforcement. During foot pursuits, perimeter setups, large apartment complexes, alleys, backyards, or unfamiliar areas, it is easy to get turned around and need to quickly relay your exact location.

The idea was not to build another map app. The idea was to remove friction. Maps can give you a blue dot, but when you need the actual address, nearest cross street, GPS coordinates, heading, and accuracy fast, there are still extra steps. LOC8 puts that information on one screen for iPhone and Apple Watch.

Claude Code helped me build basically everything: the iPhone app, Apple Watch app, location logic, UI iterations, bug fixes, edge cases, and landing page. I used it heavily for React Native, watchOS, location handling, design cleanup, and keeping the product consistent.

The hardest part was not showing GPS data. The hard part was making it feel fast and useful under stress. I had to think through things like location accuracy, Apple Watch responsiveness, speed gating, driving versus walking, address refresh behavior, cached location data, and how much information is actually useful at a glance.

So far the app has grown to 1,500+ users, made a little over $1.5k in under 2 months, and has been around a 25% App Store product page conversion rate. Most growth has come from Reddit posts and manual outreach.

The biggest lesson for me is that Claude Code works best when you bring a real problem to it. It did not invent the use case. I understood the pain point first, then used Claude Code to help turn it into a working product.

For anyone one or two steps behind me, my advice would be: do not start with “what app can AI build for me?” Start with “what annoying problem do I understand better than most people?” Then use AI to help you move faster, test more ideas, and ship.

Would love feedback on the concept, the Apple Watch side, or how you would improve the product from here.

Orientation

Hello, I just recently got accepted to the 7/26 class. I have orientation soon and was wondering what to expect. If anyone knows how long it lasts or what we will be going through during the time that would be appreciated. Thank you.

Why are there so many anti LE posts and comments on here? Isn’t this a place to show support and ask questions about the department?

PFQ Score & Academy

Hi all, I'm an LAXPD candidate currently in backgrounds. I passed my last PFQ with a 65%. Ideally I wanted to try to get a higher score, but since it's been replaced with the PAT, would this affect my timeline of getting into academy? Do they prioritize candidates with higher PFQ scores? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!

Background investigator

How long did it take for some of you to hear anything after meeting with your BI and given them all the documents they needed to hear a call back to move onto the phyc evaluation?

How soon after submitting the PHS do you have to take the PFQ?

I just submitted my PHS and saw this message: “You may now take the PFQ on a walk-in basis to avoid being scheduled a mandatory attendance date.” Does anyone know how much time applicants usually have before LAPD schedules a mandatory PFQ date? Will they contact me within a few weeks, or is there normally enough time to train first and attend CAP sessions before taking it?

DQ‘d in 2024

Would like a second opinion. Tried to apply in 2024 got temporary disqualified, as long as I meet the appeal requirements does Lapd need officers frequently? Would finishing my last year of associates help? Is the process truly 5-6 months from start to end

How to get more patrols in problem area?

Hello,

Hoping I can get some guidance on how to best approach.

I live in an area at the top of a hill in the Highland Park area. Recently my catalytic converter was stolen and the night after, my neighbor had confront two individuals trying to break into cars on our street with a glass breaker. In the last 12 months, we've had other adjacent neighbors also get their cat converters stolen and in another instance, had a whole car stolen.

Our neighborhood/hill has an overlook that is also popular with people coming by to watch the sunset and hang out after sundown and late at night. We have no problem with people enjoying the view but its results in a lot of litter, mainly being beer cans and whippet stuff (i.e., gas tanks and balloon). We come together as a neighborhood to clean up but it's getting a bit overwhelming.

Is there any way I can request an increase in patrol, specifically later in the evening and early morning hours? Also open to any other suggestions.

Thank you!

LAPD NEEDS TO HE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. JUSTICE FOR JAMESON!!

No shots should have EVER been fired… Jameson yelped after the first shot and the cop still shot more times. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU LAPD?! You guys are sick. You are the true enemies. We all are angry because of how inhumane you guys are. I have lost all faith in officers. There are WAY TOO MANY bad apples in the bunch. They are all lumped in the same category for me after this. I have zero respect for any of y’all.

MY DOOD SMILES. DON’T SHOOT HIM, LAPD!! JUSTICE FOR JAMESON!

I hope this haunts you forever You POS LAPD. I will never let you forget.

My boy is a very friendly, smiling doodle. He loves to run up to any human and say hello with a big smile on his face. Unfortunately, I now have the fear of him running up to an officer being his cute, friendly self trying to say hi and smiling & they end up shooting and killing him because they think he is being “aggressive” and going to attack them. I have never had this fear until this horrible & heartbreaking story about Jameson. What kind of world are we living in? The police will use any “reason” to draw their weapon and kill to protect themselves. What happened to Jameson is so messed up and extremely traumatizing. And we all know this isn’t the first or the last time. WTF is the PD doing? Because it’s definitely not to protect their citizens. I use to fear officers whenever I would get pulled over. My biggest fear now is being outside with my dood and walking past an officer. I don’t have any trust in the PD nor do they make me feel safe. I never thought I’d have to protect my family from those in blue.

I AM SO ANGRY THIS HAPPENED TO JAMESON. JUSTICE FOR JAMESON. THIS IS MY “WHY” FOR HAVING ZERO RESPECT AND STRONG NEGATIVE FEELINGS FOR THE POLICE. THEY’RE NOT HERE TO PROTECT US. THEY JUST WANT ANY REASON TO DRAW THEIR WEAPON AND KILL! #JusticeforJameson #Accountability #Awareness #LAPD

Hand tattoos leniency

Is anyone here in this thread a current police officer? If so can you explain the process about how they treat hand tattoos. I haven’t applied yet but I’m hearing mixed opinions about “they are lenient, they need people” and also “yea that’s an automatic DQ” I don’t know who to believe in and I’m just wanted to get some insight so I can invest into removing them before if I have too or after I get an invitation for the academy, it will be easier after the academy invitation obviously I would be making more money than I am now, appreciate everyone!

Uncensored officer involved dog body cam shooting where a Residents dog charges at officers (GRAPHIC)

4:59-5:02 For uncensored bodycam perspective of officer who shot the precieved threat.

I know I'm gonna get people disagreeing and probably calling me names, But the owner was very neglecting of her dog and failed to comply to officers orders to put her dog away several times and despite the attempt to get the dog put away, The owner opens the door failing to put the dog away and claims he is"Not aggressive" Which then immediately after the dog makes his way out, and charges at the officer. After closer reviewing footage, The dog barked aggressively and did an all to well known related attack stance before charging at the officer, Promoting the officer to Shoot the dog multiple times killing the dog. The dog owner should be investigated for attempted aggravated assault of an officer, And animal abuse for even if she let him out on accident, Still stemmed form the owners failure to properly secure the dog. And the officers were already pumping with adrenaline since the 911 call in this video sounded very concerned, which made the aggressive door banging justified in the protocol of a domestic violence call.

Overall, The owner intentionally put the dog in a very dangerous situation despite officers trying to prevent anyone from getting hurt. Say what you want but the real monster is the owner. Because she still got her dog killed accident or not.

Read/reading books on LAPD, opinions/recommendations?

I just finished 'Killing Season' and thought it was a solid book, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Am about to start 'Boot' and wondered what current/former officer's thoughts were on this and the previously mentioned book.

Also if there's any recommendations on non-fiction books about the Department.

I'm eyeing picking up "To Protect and to Serve: The LAPD's Century of War in the City of Dreams" as well as 'LAPD '53.'

Appreciate any and all thoughts.
