My dollhouse isn't even here yet...

I spent last weekend assembling three of those Rolife mini kits in an unhealthy amount of time. My mom was so impressed she ordered me a dollhouse kit (Vermont Farmhouse Jr) to put together and at first I was horrified.

....but now I've reorganized my craft room, picked out and tested paint colors, bought a few YouTube recommended tools, and now I've made this... Just out of things I had laying around.

My wallet is in danger isn't it... ?

This is my personality now... Isn't it... ?

My favorite miniature ever

I've made a lot of miniature kits... like, a lot a lot of them, but this one is my absolute favorite and I loved building it. I added a lot of extra little details but it was already wonderfully detailed all on its own. It had some new and complex little additions that really made my day. I know this is just a kit and not nearly as nifty as handmade miniatures, but I hope some of you will enjoy it anyway! My favorite detail is the art on the wall above the kitchen. It was so cool to make. Highly recommend!

Also, please note the microwave WITH A LIGHT IN IT!!

I think I'm ready for a tiny kit that actually makes me plan ahead

After a few beginner builds, I'm looking for the most challenging Rolife kits or similar miniature projects that feel good for advanced builders. Not frustrating for the sake of it, more like the kind of build where you slow down, dry-fit parts, think about wiring, and feel proud when the final scene comes together. I like tricky layering, detailed storefronts, tiny furniture, lighting, and builds that reward patience. Which kits made you feel challenged in a fair way and still ended up being fun to finish?

Finally finished my antique cafe 🫪🫪

Finally done with the ‘hard construction’ of the interior structure. It took way longer than I wanted to, but the cafe is officially semi-open for business 🫪

Next comes filling up the bookshelves and adding more tiny details to the space, which I’m more excited about

WIP night light/roombox

This is for my 5yo, hence the aesthetic. I wish I bought good wallpaper or cardstock instead of using regular paper, but it'll have to do.

Free Miniature day closed because of 4th of July

Games Workshop is closed in my area for the 4th of July and thus no free Miniature day
-is this happening in anyone else’s area in the US? It’s disappointing but I do understand that days off are important.

Miniature Lakeside House in a Jar 🏡.

I recently finished this tiny fairy-garden-style scene inside a glass jar using mostly inexpensive and recycled materials.

Materials used:

House: made entirely from cardboard

Boat: handcrafted from wood

Tree: made from wire and sponge

Dock/platform: built using toothpicks and popsicle sticks

Water effect: colored resin/gel effect with small pebbles at the bottom

My goal was to create a peaceful little lakeside cottage while keeping the cost as low as possible. Most of the materials were things I already had at home.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or ideas for improving future builds!

My 2000s-inspired girly bedroom

This is a bedroom in my 1/6 scale dollhouse that is currently a work in progress! The dollhouse itself is set in present-day but the doll that "lives" in this bedroom just loves that 2000s aesthetic. It's not perfect by any means, but I'm happy with how it's turning out! There are things that I have repurposed for use in the dollhouse. For example, that little CD player is actually a pencil sharpener. There are also a number of things that I have made myself. For example, I made the bed, desk, computer tower, all lamps, DVDs and CDs. Oh, and the TV actually works haha.

Wood and plastic mini kits feel like two totally different moods

I thought wooden and plastic miniature house kits would just be a simple material choice, but the more I look at finished builds, the more it feels like they each have their own charm. Wood has that warm tiny-room feeling and seems easier to make look lived in. Plastic can look cleaner, sharper, and maybe a bit easier if you like crisp details. For people who build miniatures, which is better in actual use? Do you care more about realism, durability, painting, sanding, or just how enjoyable the build feels while you’re doing it?

Which tiny house kits actually feel worth the money and the patience?

I don’t think best value with miniature house kits is just about the lowest price. A good kit should feel fair while you’re building it: clear instructions, pieces that fit, enough detail to be fun, and a finished result you actually want to display. I’m trying to find kits where the process feels enjoyable instead of confusing, and where the final tiny room looks close to what you hoped for.

What brands or specific kits have felt worth it to you? Bonus points if they don’t require buying half a craft store just to make them look decent.
