Is a 4GB mp3 player worth it?

Hi!

I started getting into CDs around 3 years ago- now im super interested in mp3 players and found this really cool hannah montana one (Sony NWZE436F) on Facebook with 4GB (there's no way to add more storage)

Its brand new but im worried about how many songs could fit on there and how to compress the songs in general to fit

Any help would be appreciated

Built a local Python GUI app to download Spotify tracks for my MP3 player (Ad-free & offline)

I vibecoded a small Python GUI app to download Spotify songs locally, and I'd love to share it if anyone needs it so people can enjoy their music without ads and actually store it permanently if they want. The current workflow is a little annoying since it requires copy-pasting song links into a file before running cause it uses yt-dlp, but it gets the job done. Let me know if you're interested if yes then I could just drop the code here so you guys can just run it and download the ones you want

Teacher looking for advice

I'm a teacher who has just been given permission to use supply funds to buy cheap MP3s so kids can listen to music during study periods. I'm looking to spend under $40 per player. Any advice?

uploaded my Spotify downloader GUI

I recently posted about the small Python GUI I made for saving songs locally from Spotify links, and a few people genuinely asked for a repo/link, so I cleaned it up a bit and uploaded it.I also tried to make the setup as beginner-friendly as possible with screenshots and step-by-step instructions since not everyone here is technical. If anyone faces issues with setup/UI or has suggestions to make it easier, let me know. If this actually ends up helping a lot of people, I’ll keep improving it and maybe turn it into a more polished app over time. And if there’s any other small feature or improvement that would genuinely help, feel free to ask I’ll try my best to add it.

Wanted to share how my Innioasis Y1 is looking so far! ☆

Hello everyone!

As you can read from the title, I recently just got myself an Innioasis Y1. I've been eyeing to get one for the longest time and finally just decided why the heck not lol

I'm currently building my music library and making sure I have timed lyric files, so adding music to my Y1 has been slow, mainly because I wanna ensure all the music I want is ready first before I decide to transfer it :)

Also, I didn't realize how tedious the effort it would take to remove the casing and swap out the SD card ( •̥́ ˍ •̀ू )

Thankfully I was able to swap out the 128GB with a 512GB one!! Yippieee lol

Basically, I just wanted to share how it looks so far and I'm really happy with it tbh! (Yes, that's Mitski on the polaroid haha)

That's all for now! (´▽`)ノ♪

Piece of junk but it does well enough

Aiandcc m6. Clip is just a regular phone clip I got because the Bluetooth was being spotty. Originally I was getting it to see if I used it enough to justify anything more expensive in the first place but it manages to, with the clip, work well enough to where I'm not in a hurry to replace it. As can be seen, I made a lanyard attachment (it doesn't come with the thread and chain thing) but it was a bit heavy for that.

Looking for a mp3 player with good battery life and bluetooth

Don't want anything fancy or expensive as I'll just be using it for my walks/bus commutes.

It does need an equalizer though.

I got some Bluetooth earbuds recently as I got annoyed at getting tangled up when taking a bag with me.

My earbuds last about 8 hours on a single charge so want the player to last just as long if not longer.

Also needs to have USB-C as that always makes like easier and I'm then not having to lug around multiple cables.

New macOS local music app for DAP users and audiophiles

I’ve been building a macOS app called TuneBridge, a local-first music player and library manager designed for people who still care about owning and managing their music libraries.

GitHub / releases:
TuneBridge Releases Repo

The project started because I got frustrated with how fragmented the audiophile/local library workflow still is:

  • one app for playback
  • another for playlists
  • another for DAP syncing
  • another for PEQ
  • another for metadata management

So I started building something focused entirely around DAP users with local library workflows,

Current focus:

  • FLAC/ALAC/WAV library management
  • Artist + album focused browsing
  • Playlist management
  • Favourites system
  • Audiophile focused UI/UX
  • Lossless playback
  • DAP workflow support
  • PEQ/IEM workflows, compare IEMs with your music library
  • ID3 tag editing
  • Library insights
  • No subscriptions
  • No cloud lock-in

Still early and actively in development, but I’m opening things up publicly now and would genuinely love feedback from other local library / audiophile people.

Would especially love to hear:

  • what your current workflow looks like
  • biggest frustrations with existing apps
  • features you wish existed for local music management

Digital audio player for musicality?

So I own the Cayin n6III...love the sound. Hate the size and heat. What can I get that doesn't heat up like this and yet maintains a musicality sound not a reference sound. I've had the ibasso 260 mk2 but didn't like reference dry sound. So any suggestions out there that aren't too big, heavy , and hot?

Is this MP3 player good for beginners?

I have heard that this is much easier than an iPod and way better for beginners. I’ve never used MP3 player before. Just wondering what the best options are.

MP3 file album tag showing in foobar2000, MP3Tag, but not in Windows explorer or iTunes.

I don't know why this is!! I downloaded the mp3 files using CSVMusic and then added the tags that it misses (genre, album art) en masse using MP3Tag and a .csv file I got from exportify (I'm trying to download a playlist off of spotify). Weirdly, the genres do show, but the albums do not. Does anyone know why the tags are only showing sometimes? Manually typing the tags in in foobar or mp3Tag works, by the way - those tags do show in iTunes/file explorer.

I can share files to anyone who wants to have a look, but I'm not sure I can just put them here without breaking rule 7 (I'm new here and I don't know how to password protect files!!)

Thank you all! :3

Need help deciding!

Wanting to get my first dap since the 2010s- pretty much narrowed it down to these two. iPod is cheaper, and I’ve heard they’re easy to mod if (when) the battery bloats. But I like how the Sony looks, and have less info on its long term functionality/general qualities over the iPod. Just wondering if anyone has strong options either way, or if they’re pretty much the same.

This has been bothering me for a while.

I write music. Guitar, mostly. And there's a part of the creative process that happens away from the DAW (like on the couch, in the car, at rehearsal) where you're just listening back and trying things out. Vibing. Informal but important.

Two things I do constantly:

Transposing on the spot. I'll have a demo and want to know if the whole thing sits better a semitone or two down — for the vocalist's, for the guitar part I'm thinking about. I don't want to export, open another app, re-import. I just want to tap twice and hear it.

Looping a section to write over it. I'll be trying to work out a guitar solo for a bridge. I set point A at the start, point B at the end, and it loops forever while I play along. This is a basic DAW feature, but what about in my living room? I'm not in the DAW. I'm just sitting with the demo and trying things until something sticks.

These are simple needs. But I couldn't find an iPhone player that did both, offline, from my own files, without a subscription. Frustrating.

I actually built an app last month. It's called In Progress. and i've posted about here before. For those of you who don't know it already, It’s mainly an offline music player for local music, that allows you to organize your demos in playlists, and create folders for your playlists. Think of it as a good Files App with a beautiful player built-in. It has CarPlay, it tells you the key of the imported songs, playlists, nested folders and a queue logic, but it didn’t have the tools I wanted as a producer. I just used it to listen to demos.

Until now.

I just updated the app to V1.4, and added Transpose and Producer Tools — A/B loop section and pitch-preserving speed control, behind a toggle so it doesn't clutter the interface for people who just want a player.

The best part is that I am very against subscriptions. I have a deep subscription fatigue and I believe you should just buy your tools once. Especially small, everyday tools. So I only charge €1.99 one time and that's it. As straightforward as possible. No subscription. No ads. No accounts. No internet. It’s yours forever. You own it. It yours, to listen to your music.

Curious how other people handle this part of the workflow — the away-from-the-DAW evaluation stage. What are you actually using?
