Would you vote for politicians supporting a rent freeze?
It is often shocking how far to extreme capitalism we have gone over the last 30 years. I chalk it up to everyone misunderstanding the movie Wall Street - "Greed is good"
Recently 2 million people who live in NYC received the news their rent will not be raised for up to two years.
The counter argument is "the policy could gradually push older rent-stabilized buildings into disrepair by depriving landlords of revenue needed for capital improvements."
-- That doesn't hold water to me and I am wondering if y'all feel the same way?
I paid $685 for 2BR apt in Raleigh from 1993-2001 with final rent being $785. That apt now goes for $1700.
It was built in '84 and since I have left they have added Covered garages to generate even more revenue. It seems to me at 42 years old this property would have paid for itself over at least twice on a 30% margin.
With depreciation and the ability to write off capital improvements should they not be able to afford a two year rent freeze?
I am open to both sides, and I would like to hear your opinions.
It is just as I drive by my old Apt I think how I was able to save up $$$ to buy my first house and now that same person probably cant.
Would you support a politician who proposed some type of rent freeze even if it was allowed to go up 2% a year?

What do you want Roy Cooper to fight for?
This is not a bash Roy Cooper post, but it is... What are we actually going to demand from him post.
I have watch several interviews and his answers are always the same weak sauce Kamala Harris was serving up. And he would be losing if he wasn't going up such a weak opponent.
His Issues page is nothing more than bullet points and in regards to healthcare; his plan is going back to the Obamacare which was better then we had but is still just a massive give away to the insurance companies.
Points 2, 7-9 just prove he has no plan for a medicare for all or even a public option.
I see no mention of only running one term... No mention of fighting for term limits. No mention of banning Insider trading. No mention of supporting a billionaires tax, which at least would help solve our long term debt issue. And no mention of getting rid of the SS cap so everyone doesn't have to work until their 70 to get Social Security.
Check it out for yourself, shouldn't we demand more from this guy then just give him our vote because Whatley is worse.
What policies would you like to see Roy Cooper really get behind? If you are under 50, what do you want to see all NC politicians running on?
NC STILL hates all teachers assistants and others at public schools.
Since the news of the budget has come out, apparently the only employees NOT getting any kind of bonus are the poor IAs and a few other groups. Custodians? YOU get $1750! State Employees? YOU get $1750! Instructional Assistants? Naaah, f off. Be happy for your 3%.

x.comProposed State budget cutting all funding for the NC Office of Environmental Education
The proposed state budget if passed, will be cutting off all funding towards the NC Office of Environmental Education. This includes the North Carolina Environmental Education Certification Program. This office and program trains educators on ways to educate others on environmental topics through hands on learning and community engagement. As an environmental educator myself, this is very sad and I urge everyone to reach out to their representatives about this.

Better DMV experience
Ever since Gov Stein hired Paul Tine, the General Assembly reluctantly put more money into the NC DMV last year, hired more examiners, revamped their technology, and opened more locations -- anyone else had a more improved experience?
My dad was upgrading his driver's license to REAL ID today and went to his appointment in Carrboro an hour early. There were like several people ahead of him in line, so the examiners put him on the waitlist. He had everything with him, he was called up, did the transaction, and was home before his original appointment time.
I was impressed when I heard that, but I know everyone has a different experience.

Thoughts? Considering NC is a red state, I shouldn't be surprised how it shits on its people.
The income tax cap amendment is a smokescreen and political distraction designed to hide the reality: North Carolina lawmakers are rigging the system for the ultra-wealthy and corporations (*corporations who already enjoy one of the lowest tax rates in America*) while completely abandoning their responsibility to the people.
*North Carolina has the one of the lowest corporate income tax rates in the nation (currently at 2.5%) and is scheduled to eliminate it entirely by 2030*
While NC residents deal with one of the highest costs of health care, toxic drinking water, starved public schools, and stagnant minimum wage ($7.25/hr which hasn't increased since 2009) the legislature's priority is to pass a constitutional amendment that legally prevents the state from ever properly funding a fix. They are using the promise of "low taxes" to mask a systematic, permanent betrayal of the public's health and future.

“The Texas education board on Friday approved a required reading list for more than 5 million public school students that includes Bible passages, widening conservative efforts to push Christian teachings in U.S. classrooms.”
Absolutely outrageous and disgusting. Guess we can look forward to bills for mandatory reading of the Quran and Torah and more, ffs smfh. This is truly pathetic and antithetical to the founding of US and violates our constitutional rights. Our government (federal and state) is pathetic and truly embarrassing.
