New to the area
Hey, I’m a graduate student new to the area and will be here for a week while I’m visiting nearby programs. Any recommendations on restaurants and coffee shops to study at would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Around 6pm today, we found a tortoise wandering around the area. We took it in our backyard for now and also posted on multiple social medias. We’ve been giving it water and lettuce.
The tortoise seems to be about 15 years old and we think it weighs about 50lbs. If this tortoise looks familiar or you think its yours, please let me know 🙏
(also any tips on how to temporarily take care of a tortoise? this is the first time we’ve ever encountered one 😭)
Hello! Just wondering where some good spots are to go watch the World Cup? Thanks in advance 😁
Going to look at an apartment in the circle and was curious if anyone had an insight of the vibe/general feelings on the area!
Hello I eat a lot of plants and have a lot of biodegradable food waste. Was wondering if anyone would like my food waste for their garden. I feel so bad throwing it away as I know it can be soooo nutrient dense for composting. I live in an apartment and i don’t have a garden :( lmk! I can save them and give them to you at the end of the week or something.
All skills levels are welcome! DM me if you want to get together for a super easy going and fun game, nothing too serious. Looking to play 2v2 3v3 4v4 or 5v5 games!
Idk wtf I’m doing. I’m attempting to do some minor repairs on my vehicle (2008 Mitsubishi Galant) but I think I’ve been over quoted and I already have most of the parts, I think. Any grease monkeys feel like picking up a couple easy bills?
I need to replace a battery, replace a non existent windshield wiper hose/ nozzles, and posssibly replace an engine coolant reservoir…? They’re all fairly low priority but I’d like to take care of em while I have some downtime. If anybody is cool with these kinds of projects or knows anyone please lmk. I’m down to travel for a quote. Thanks!
I know this isn't new, and has been an issue since 2020, but the past year has been super bad with the homeless population by the Petco/Raising Canes on Lankershim. They all go to that NoHo Home Alliance service at the church on Camarillo.
The past year the boom in homeless here has been crazy. I don't feel safe walking in my neighborhood anymore. I've been chased, screamed at, and had items thrown at me. I find needles and waste everywhere. Citizen is constantly alerting for someone being assaulted in this area.
I want to hear your thoughts and experiences. Any suggestions on what we can do to help our community with this? I'm not about opposing assistance for those in need. Rather, I want to find a solution that protects vulnerable individuals while also ensuring that we can safely enjoy our neighborhood.
Any recommendations for curly hair stylist in the area? They do not have to be curly hair exclusive or do only dry cuts. Thnx!
As the title says does anyone wanna get together to play 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5? Honestly just want to play a fun friendly game! Nothing too serious.
If enough people are interested I can start a gc or something. Would love to do it either at Noho park or Larry L Maxam park in burbank!
Why are there fireworks now? Its not even the 4th yet.
Can get 2 small chicken California’s and 10 free wings free and total comes out to $10.19 + tax + Uber fees
This happened in my building this past week, sorry it's a bit scattered, trying to find the right way to explain everything that happened. And I've gathered this story through talking with my neighbors so I'm still not sure about *a lot*:
Someone moved into our building, full on; furniture, two dogs everything: *moved in*. Then they showed up one day and the locks were replaced. I don't think they were in the building for now than only a few days.
Police were called, property management shows up and says they've never interacted with this couple.
The story is that they paid *someone* a deposit and first month's rent, and claim they "signed" for a 2 bedroom for $1750 a month!! And were never given a building key or mail key? Nothing adds up.
Like ... I don't even know what to believe anymore. They very well could have just toured the apartment and just kept the key and moved in. Or they very well could have been duped by some crazy Craigslist duplicate post or something.
Keep an eye out there everybody. If it sounds too good to be true...
Hi everyone! I'm curious to hear from our community.
If you could ask a local nonprofit for help with one thing, what would it be?
Food assistance?
Hygiene products?
School supplies?
Mental health resources?
Job or career support?
Housing resources?
Senior services?
Something else?

Fuck the people lighting fireworks in Strathern Park. That's all
If you’re looking for something cool to do close to home this week, our resident company is opening a brand-new indie play right here in the Arts District.
The show is called Where The Fireflies Rest and it opens THIS Wednesday (June 24th) at the LACAE Stage. It’s an intimate, multigenerational drama about memory, family dynamics, and the ties that bind us across time. If you like character-driven storytelling with real emotional stakes, this is definitely for you.
Our local ensemble has been developing this for months, and we are lucky enough to be joined by some incredible guest artists like Deborah Baker Jr. and award-winning actress Gica Pucca.
The full cast: Devin Evola, Rosie Ryden, Luana Larsen, Chiara Gheller, Nick Bennett, Shayne Wilson, Evyn Arreguin, Joseph Proctor, Ally Rochee, and Maria Paula Rodriguez. Directed by Joe Garcia, story by Adam Chambers.
Local theater lives and dies by word of mouth, and it’s a strictly limited 4-night run (Wednesday through Saturday), so we’d love to see some Reddit neighbors in the crowd for opening week!
