Offerup Has Fallen Off

Does anybody else miss the old OfferUp? Like I feel like it's fallen off so hard. Like literally last year I was doing so good with sales and making good money and getting tons of views and action on my listings. Now it's a ghost town this year. Views are extremely low and slow. I used to get 1000s of views on my listings, now the listings barely reach like 30 views. Like what happened? Did everybody abandon it or what? I feel like it went downhill when they stopped shipping too. What's y'all opinions? Also, anybody got any ideas on where else to sell locally? Besides FB Marketplace and Craigslist?

Klarna is a well-known, FCA regulated, fintech service based in Sweden that allows users to split purchases into smaller, interest-free installments. They are currently running a refer-a-friend offer in which new users (and existing users without a debit card) can get £10 for signing up and making three payments of £5 or more on their card. Here's the guide:

  1. Use link https://l.klarna.com/22XC/invite_KO7r0M6CCdyjZZbA
  2. Download the app and sign in.
  3. Verify your email and phone number.
  4. Click "Start setting up the card"
  5. Pick the basic card and standard membership if you want to avoid fees.
  6. Answer some simple questions about yourself.
  7. Verify your ID.
  8. Add money to you Klarna account.
  9. Make three transactions of £5 or more on you Klarna card, or virtual card.
  10. Done.

Notes:

  • Don't post links in the comments, ask for DMs. It's against Klarna's T&Cs and bonuses may not be rewarded.
  • The bonus is usually paid instantly but can take up to 72hrs.
  • To see your virtual card details go to wallet > card > view details.

Qualifying transactions:

Klarna has tightened up the qualifying transaction requirements recently. Transfers, financial services like Revolut or Monzo, utility bills, top-ups, and gift cards will no longer qualify. The safest qualifying transactions will be shopping. Personally I added 3*£5 to my Amazon balance and that worked just fine for me.

Once you've signed up you can refer friends and family and other r/beermoneyuk users for £40 each time, up to a total of £400. Thank you to anyone using my referral I really appreciate it.

Question About Likelihood of Responses

Hi there! I'm new to OfferUp, and still trying to get a feel for the community. I've sent out four questions to separate sellers, and have yet to get a response.

My first thought was that these are dead, inactive listings, but then I considered how a new account might look suspicious. Are fresh accounts like mine likely to be dismissed by sellers?

OfferUp’s “Anti-Piracy” Policy Makes No Sense — Unless You Pay for It

OfferUp recently banned standard users from listing streaming devices, allegedly due to concerns around piracy and unauthorized streaming services.
At face value, that sounds reasonable.

But here’s the contradiction:
Verified OfferUp Business accounts — reportedly paying $500+ per month for premium/business plans — are still openly allowed to sell devices like SuperBox and VSee/V-Box style systems that are widely marketed around free live TV, premium sports, PPV access, and subscription-free streaming.

Let’s be honest about what these products are known for.
These aren’t ordinary retail streaming devices like an Amazon Fire TV Stick being used for Netflix and YouTube. Their entire market positioning revolves around bypassing traditional paid content ecosystems.

So the policy raises a serious question:
If streaming devices are truly banned because of piracy concerns…
why are the most piracy-associated devices still allowed — as long as the seller is paying for a high-tier business account?
Because from the outside, it doesn’t look like anti-piracy enforcement.
It looks like selective enforcement based on revenue.

Either:
Ban all devices associated with piracy equally, or
Allow legal streaming hardware sales equally.

But targeting small sellers while allowing large paying accounts to continue operating creates the appearance that policy enforcement is financially motivated rather than principle-based.

Curious if others have noticed this too.

Hi, is there a way to pay someone digitaly without asking for a ton of personal info and looking like a scammer?

Hi, I just bought something off offerup but I want to send some extra money. Essentially it was some kid who was selling something to save up for something else. I just picked it up but it turned out that there was more stuff than I thought. I agreed to his price thinking it was only for part of the stuff I received so I wanted to pay him more to cover it and help him save up a little. Unfortunately I only had enough cash to pay his asking price and no extra. I was hoping to send him a check or whatever digitally but don't want to come off as a scammer asking for personal info. How could I go about that?

How can I make sure I don't get scammed on a Switch 2 deal?

Like what do I look out for? I don't do anything shipping, only local pickup. I saw somewhere someone said to check the serial number with Nintendo but I've tried Nintendo support live chat and both times they wouldn't tell me if the serial was reported stolen or banned. I've heard I can check for ban by going to eShop on the system before buying, but that would only help if it's banned due to piracy or hacking.

They're already too expensive in store and prices are going up further. CA tax is like an additional $40-50 on the price so trying to snag one locally. I've seen a couple going for around $400.

First time using OfferUp - Need Help

I decided to try out selling Computer rams on OfferUp. Someone messaged me about shipping it to them. They mentioned that they will send the funds and the courier will pick up the rams at a given time. I was not reached out by any courier anywhere. I got this link in the text chain. When I click it, it goes to the OfferUp website and tries to process my bankcard using Stripe. Has anyone dealt with this before? Verification keeps failing and theres no other way to receive the funds. Also is someone supposed to reach out to me for the package? So much confusion honestly

OfferUp Blocking Now Hides Listings

Not sure when this changed but I just noticed OfferUp’s block feature now says blocked users can no longer see your profile or listings.

Historically blocking on OfferUp mostly just stopped messaging. People complained about this for years because blocked users could still see listings, follow sellers around, lowball, harass, report spam or create drama.

Example older discussions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/offerup/comments/1if7nbu/if\_you\_block\_someone\_can\_they\_still\_see\_your/

https://www.reddit.com/r/offerup/comments/150n0pd/is\_there\_an\_option\_to\_hide\_posts\_from\_specific/

https://www.reddit.com/r/offerup/comments/f32tb5/how\_to\_filter\_out\_specific\_sellers/

Now the app explicitly says:

“This user will no longer be able to message you, see your profile, or see your listings.”

I attached a screenshot.

Honestly this is a step in the right direction. Anyone who sells on OfferUp knows there are trolls, weirdos, harassers, repeat lowballers and people who just waste your time. If someone gets blocked there is usually a reason.

I have no idea if this is a full rollout yet because there does not seem to be much discussion online about it, but if this is a real change then good.

Does a buyer need your phone number to make the payment? My number and email are already verified on my account so I’m not sure if this is a scam or not.

What a joke 😂

Looking at PC deals on OU is hilarious. Guy said he wasn’t using AI, his PC must’ve magically gained a different looking 5070 and a third stick of ram along with a label on the motherboard. What a joke.
