Why the hell can you only post items through the stupid app? What makes you think I want another app?

And guess what, my phone can't download the app for some reason. Guess I'll use craiglist, which is far inferior to Offerup in every way, except for this techy brain garbage

my big working theory: governments of the world have known since the 50's that they can't actually start a nuclear war, because the aliens won't let them

Shutting down our nukes is completely trivial for them. Their constant presence around nuclear sites is no coincidence.

But the world's governments keep this information hidden, basically holding the world hostage to a false threat. Objectively they would lose power admitting this, so they just don't, and meanwhile the ET are content wait and observe.

We can imagine the ET civilization having philosophical debates about this type of interference. Should a whole population be held hostage by it's worst narcissists? Perhaps they have watched many planets evolve, and after seeing a few wipe themselves out with nukes they decided to put an end to it. Perhaps some other civilization helped them, and so they go around repaying the cosmic favor.

Who can say if this is true but I like 50% genuinely believe it, because it explains why we havent wiped ourselves out despite 80 years of nukes in the hands of war mongering maniacs and fanatics.

I don't think game theory and MAD alone explain why a dying narcissist hasn't yet pressed the button. Just look at the current situation with Putin.

And yet, true or not, this wingnut belief gives me comfort, because I just don't worry about nuclear war. There are greater forces at work than human egos, and to me this doesn't really require faith or belief, in the same way I don't worry about whether gravity will continue to hold up the sky tomorrow.

Realized one of my favorite bands, Hold Steady, made a song in 2023 called "Sixers" (a double entendre on drinking a six pack and watching basketball) that references Lebron. How did they know???

Has anyone found anything to keep the damn ants away? They are relentless this year

Yes I have Terro traps, I think the ants have evolved beyond them lol. Never seems to get them all or even reduce much. I'm sitting here at my desktop and they are goddamn obsessed with trying to crawl up my legs. Has anyone found anything that actually works? Considering spreading a mix of diatomaceous earth and cinnamon all around the desk area from what I've been reading online. Anything else?

My #1 Busking Tip: People don't want to hear a mediocre mimicked version of Wish You Were Here. They want to hear YOUR version of Wish You Were Here!

I see this all the time observing buskers. It's something that comes with confidence and experience, obviously, but even if you are just starting out it's good to keep in mind.

Like give me a raw folk punk Wish You Were Here, a mandolin and tuba Wish You Were Here, a Wish You Were Here sung with a totally different vocal style.

I have normal Wish You Were Here at home. Hearing someone try to mimic it exactly is not that interesting. Put your own style and spin on it. This takes time to develop, certainly, but it's what separates the different tiers of busker in my eyes

What's the deal with the downtown bead-handing monks?

Always got to laugh when I see they've snared in some tourist with the beads. A rite of passage. So I know their whole song and dance in that regard, but my question is do they represent some organization or actual buddhist sect? Do they actually consider themselves monks? Do they view what they are doing as a straight up scam, or as a way to raise money for some group etc?

I suppose I could ask them myself but they probably wouldn't be inclined to answer these kinds of questions is my guess. So does anyone have any info?

Edit yes yes I understand they are a scam, but for who? do they see themselves as scammers? or are they indoctrinated or something? These are my questions

Best/Cheapest Japanese Sweet Potato in Seattle?

I'm talking about the really nutty tasting variety, usually red or purple with a yellow-white inside. H mart has them sometimes but kinda pricey. Any good rec for this and similar produce, namely sweet onions?

It's gotta be so nice to be a fan of one of the remaining four teams

Not just cause they're in the conference finals, but because you get the sense with all of them that they are well run, deep orgs, built to compete. Those teams aren't there by a fluke, as we only could have been.

Cavs and the Knicks pay out the ass for luxury tax. Meanwhile the result of our owners tax dodge has been balling out off the bench for the 1 seed. Enjoy those extra weekends on the new island, Josh! Nothing changes until the Epstein owner sells. Boycott, protest, call his ass out publicly like that single brave reporter did.

Let's become a toxic asset, Philly. I know you have it in you
