Billy Joel is NOT a true Long Islander regardless of what they say

It is impossible to be "the most LI of all LIers" when he was literally born somewhere else (The Bronx). And sorry LIers, he's not *yours and yours alone*. So stop trying to act all possessive of him. You want to know what celebrities were both born AND raised on LI? Alec Baldwin (and brothers), Mariah Carey, Seinfeld, Stern, to name JUST A FEW.

Oh, and just for the record, Billy is my favorite musical artist of all time. This is just one little "quirk" about him that drives me nuts.

Why wasn’t Elton interviewed in And So It Goes?

They make a big deal about how Elton’s comments in the Rolling Stone interview affected Billy leading him to commit to sobriety. Presumably he wasn’t available at the time but wouldn’t it have made sense to get Elton’s perspective on the situation and on them being contemporaries in general?

Billy Joel segment in Eurovision

Did anyone here see this? I loved this segment and Billy Joels little monologue that preceded it. Was pleasantly surprised to see my favorite artist featured in Eurovision.

Excellent piece by pianist Brad Mehldau responding to the NYTimes criticism of Billy Joel writing "1 or 1.5 kinds of songs"

My jaw dropped to the floor when I heard that utterly bizarre take. Mehldau hits on a lot salient points, making sense of the poor quality of music journalism.

Regardless of Billy Joel, I just cannot believe that people who know so little about music hold music criticism jobs at such a prestigious publication.

This Night is Billy’s masterpiece.

I’m a 90s baby with parents born in the 50s. Grew up listening to the “Essential Billy Joel” CD we had for long trips and such. I had exposure to his chart toppers but, of course, those greatest hits albums left out some gems.

My dad passed away a few years ago and his favorite was Keeping the Faith. After watching Billy’s HBO documentary, I started digging deeper into each album. “An Innocent Man” is def my favorite concept album of his, you can tell he went all out paying tribute to legends from his youth.

But, my god, This Night is an absolute masterpiece. Can’t believe I slept on it for so long! The modernized Beethoven melody, arguably Billy’s best display of vocal range, the plot of the song. I can picture myself at a high school dance in the 50s “breaking the rules” to this tune. It’s beautiful, fun, nostalgic…it’s perfect. Anyone else agree?

This gem was played in Mary Jacob's library in Rock Hill NJ in 2015. Play this as background lounge music and you won't be disappointed. My favorite song of the show is his "Allentown - Billy Joel" cover.

Anyone else think that Cross to Bear sounds somewhat like Knockin on Heaven's Door?

I feel dumb making an entire post for a rather close-ended question, but I was listening to Knockin on Heaven's Door and was thinking to myself that it sounded like Cross to Bear

Allentown

This is a probably dumb question but here it goes anyways:

Is there anyone here from Allentown/Bethehem? What do you think about the song "Allentown?"

The Boys season 5, episode 7

Anyone who watches the show knows that Hughie is a big Billy fan. In today's episode ("The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk"), he's listening to "Goodnight Saigon"; then later, Butcher asks him to list his top ten Billy songs (I won't spoil why Butcher asks him).

Hughie says "...It would be so hard to rank them, there are so many, but if I had to:

"Okay, 'Scenes From an Italian Restaurant', which is like three songs in one, but I love them all.

'"The Entertainer', deep cut there.

'''Allentown', which, actually, is about the decline of Levittown, New York..."

Due to the circumstances of the scene, he doesn't get to finish his list.
