This skull actually has the exact same color, but your brain is tricked by the surrounding lines into seeing two different colors.

Does This Illusion Have a Name??

This photo is not the best representation of what Im trying to convey BUT this illusion has perplexed me since I was a child. Sadly its hard to "search" for in Google and even harder to describe to friends.

It looks like the direction goes both up and down the stairs. Has anyone ever made a staircase to convey that feeling?

If anyone has any other knowledge or photos to share Id greatly appreciate!

Anyone else remember this image breaking the internet for a while? I remember being able to see both for a moment but after seeing the dog I could never unsee it again

This subreddit is driving me mad

I have not seen a fresh new illusion in months, everything is just a repost, reposted a million times before, I’m sick of it, so I’m leaving this sub

I hope this post is allowed because I'm really curious: what do people here think qualifies as a legitimate optical illusion?

A huge portion of the discussion in many posts is about whether something really even is an optical illusion in the first place. Is there anything like a consensus view on this? Or, if not, what are some of the more common views here? To be clear: this is not a rhetorical question. I'm not trying to make a point and don't have enough background to have a strong opinion of my own. But I find illusions fascinating and am always curious what people consider a legitimate optical illusion when they call out a post as not being one.
