Sooooo... How is the new Olive Garden everyone?
Now that's it's been open for a week or so, how is it? Anyone gone yet? Yes I know, blah blah blah mediocre American chain. But unlimited soup salad and bread sticks in this economy is exciting for some of us
Canadian Tire on Hunt Club and "bag checks"
I bought some light bulbs at Canadian Tire today. After I'd paid, the cashier asked to look in my backpack. I said no and left.
She called the manager who ran after me and told me it was "store policy." I said I didn't care. He said all we want is a quick look in your backpack, and I said "I refuse."
At that point, he realized I knew my rights and told me "Then next time, don't bring the backpack in." (Possibly the manager realized I was retired and had time to kill if they wanted to escalate this. 🙂 He may also have realized that I hadn't stolen anything and they'd be left with egg on their face if they pushed it.)
I understand the need to prevent shoplifting, but either (1) make people place their bags in a locker or some other secure place before they enter the store, or (2) have probable cause before you ask to search someone instead of trying to blanket search everyone.
It was an unpleasant encounter, and maybe that store will view me with suspicion in future, but dammit, if we don't stand up for our rights, we'll lose them.

So once again an OC Transpo bus took the wrong turn and has ended up on the ramp to the 5th level parking lot outside Walmart. Sigh. At least the maximum height barrier sign has not been replaced since the last time this happened.
Bank of Canada Strike?
I’ve passed the Bank of Canada security officers on strike pretty much every day on my commute for almost two months now, so I finally got curious and looked up what they’re actually asking for.
From what I can tell, the Bank of Canada is trying to reduce their parental leave benefits and wants to be able to give them only 24 hours notice for mandatory shift changes??
Reducing parental leave seems kind of absurd to me, and I think (?) they’re on week 7 of the strike now. I also read that the Bank of Canada has been found to have violated the anti-scab law twice??
I promise I don’t work there and have zero connection to any of this lol I just keep walking past them every day and now I’m invested.
But their demands seem…extremely reasonable? Like almost bare minimum reasonable?
Am I missing something here? Is there another side to this that I’m not understanding?
