Seeing more and more decent youtube channels using Gen AI videos :(
I'm not talking about channels where the animations are their main thing, or explainer videos that were always 90-100% animation. Thought yes, this is happening on those too.
But channels like these: https://youtu.be/4LON7X7N8tw?si=2Dxz4r7odd01aQfS
where they only ever used animation , images and stock footage for quick shots to help illustrate/explain topics.
Not sure channels like these would have had the budget and time to hire designers and animators for their content before... Not sure if they hire someone to create those gen Ai animations or if the guy does it himself.
But it is quite sad to think another source of work is gone. Explainer videos for TV show/news/cultural/general curiosities and science video content had always been a motion design niche that I though as interesting, fun and more importantly, with a clear useful purpose (beyond marketing to sell products) for us to do.

Technical PC management (hardware updates) when there isn't anyone in the company responsible: what do you do?
I work in-house at a small ( 30-ish people) company.
There isn't an internal IT department instead there is an external IT company that remote manager our servers. There isn't also anyone officially responsible for management of our equipment.
I am the most experienced designer in a team of 2 designers. We are part of the post-production team, and our direct manager is the lead video editor.
We need urgent upgrades in our design PCs, not so much for performance/ram or GPU but mostly on storage space.
I am not a super savvy person on PC building, and I am not comfortable swapping PC parts myself on a computer that is not mine, but the company's.
I reached out to my manager and our financial department , asking if I could request the IT company that work for us to help me figure out the best configuration of parts to upgrade our computers, and if they could be responsible for actually making the upgrade, or if we should find a local shop to do it for us.
The answer I got from financial was " yes..you can ask them to help you delete files from your computer to make more room for storage" 🤦♀️
I replied explaining that what we need is upgrade of new storage drives, but then the conversation stopped there.
I am not sure how to navigate this as I cannot get a clear answer from my manager or anyone else in the company about who should be responsible for figuring out the PC upgrade and then who would be installing the new parts in those machines.
The expectation is that I myself figure this out, and just give them the bill to pay for the parts and installation.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation? What did you do?
How do you know when to call yourself a senior designer? and/or an art director?

Applied over 15+ to the same advertising agency in 4 years. Never got a reply. Followed them on Instagram on my professional portfolio profile and got a DM: "We loved your work! Thanks for the follow!"... Really?
So I guess no one ever looked at my application and portfolio in these 15+ applications, huh? ¯\(◉‿◉)/¯ (╯︵╰,)
I'm so tired. I'm giving up.
ADHD artists and designers: can you actually create personal projects on your free time?
I'm a professional graphic designer, but stuck in my career and struggling for years to come up and actually finish personal projects on my free time.
Creating personal projects for portfolio is essential. Client work is not portfolio level, and not the type of work I want to do.
Really the only way to move on in my career and find better work opportunities is by making a better portfolio with personal projects.
Everyone I know in design does that. The most successful designers are the ones that do that the most.
Still, It seems I am unable to create personal projects.
I can get client projects done, but not the ideas I spend days, weeks, months, years daydreaming of doing every single second of my day. I think about them all the time, but when I finally have time to sit down and work on them my mind goes blank and I get lost.
I only get more and more frustrated at myself, and any friends or other designers I talk to about this only get even more frustrated at me for talking about it "while doing nothing to change".
They say I just need to pick an idea of something I like, look at one of the studios I dream of working at and try to do something in a similar style..
There. Easy . Just block a few hours in your week to focus on it and do it.
But how?
I've been struggling to "just do it" for 15 years. I am so tired of being a lazy ass. Why am I like this?
I've been expelled from online design groups and had friends stop talking to me because "you complain but do nothing to change. We already gave you so much advice and tips.. No one can help you anymore. You are making others tired".
Design Thinking methods for the briefing/discovery stage of Branding projects ?
I'm looking for recommendations of terms and trustful places/peoples/books that can help me with that.
**Someone recommended me to look for design thinking methods named "4C model", "Brand Archetype Framework", "Core-Strategy Model".
What are others methods names and terms I can look for ? **
Recommendations of books or websites talking about these are extremely welcome!
Where can I learn/find info about design thinking exercizes for the briefing/discovery of branding projects?
I'm looking for recommendations of trustful places/peoples/books that can help me with that.
Hi all. I'm a motion graphic designer. Never worked with UI or UX.
I am tasked , for the first time in my career, with a full rebrand project at the company I work for.
Actually, they want / think they only need a logo redesign, but after 5 years working there as the main of 2 designers , I know what we really need is a rebrand.
But I've never worked on a branding project on my own. Only Visual ID projects.
I'm looking for information and examples of design thinking exercises to try with my CEO, managers and team, to help me gather insights and layout out more clearly a proper brief for our rebrand.
Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time finding this type of info online.
Most blogs/articles/substack etc have information blocked under paywalls or paid subscriptions, or paid online coaching classes. Or AI, which I'm not keen on trusting for this subject
Any tips are super welcome. Thank you !.
Branding: what questions to ask in an initial briefing?
I haven't really worked on a full branding project for a real company ever since my last internships during university...
But I'm now tasked with doing a complete rebrand of the company I work at currently.
I'm hoping people cab help me refresh my mind a bit and share some resources (books, websites, etc) that I can look for to help me in the briefing stage.
What are essential and good questions to ask the CEO of the company, and also the other teams like marketing and business , to help me have a solid brief to work from?
Managers and CEO think they only need a logo redesign and expect me to have a new logo in 2 weeks, while still working on my other projects.
Computer clock was offset to the future this morning , now most files I created yesterday are missing. Is it too risky to restart the computer? (Windows)
My work's computer has this issue ever since we had an IT company set up a connection to a server .
Randomly sometimes the computer clock is set off to the years in the future at random dates. I already contacted the IT company and they tried multiple fixes but the issue persists.
We already checked the BIOS battery, and it is good.
I also have this issue where every thursday, sometimes also on Fridays or Tuesdays , my computer is already turned on when I arrive at the office.
When the clock offset problem happens it is on those days.
And no, no one in my team is pranking me.
The only way I can fix the clock issue is logging off from my user, and logging into my old windows user (the original one that I used before the IT company set up a new user and connection to our server).
Usually I do that, resync the clock to the correct time, log off from the old under and back into my current user to start working.
I did that this morning. But now some Photoshop files I created yesterday are simply missing.
I could only find some shortcuts to them on the system but not the files themselves.
Is there anyway I can try to recover them? If I restart the PC will it make even harder to recover those files?
It would be a whole other day of work to recreate all of them.
And even more importantly: Are all the files in my computer, in the local drive AND the files in our server, at risk?
I already emailed the IT company but god knows when they will answer me. We do not have any IT savvy person in our company.
I am trying to back up files from our server to an external drive, just in case, as I don't know what is the state of back up with the server. But it's 2.5 TB of files.
And in my local computer drive there are another 5TB of files, most of them already backed up in external drives but some of it only backed up in our server.

How to make gaussian splats like this?
like this made by Benjamin Bardou:
Vent: The worst part of full time is being stuck at a job you hate while seeing super cool freelance oportunities on the type of eork you want to do (and is skilled to do) but can't spply to because you don't have enough free availability for the freelance job.
and not even the pay you get in the full time compensates for that.

Designers working full time (not freelancers): do you work on personal projects and study/learn new software after work? Do you also freelance on the side?
How do you make time for all of it? Do you feel tired? Do you miss having time to do nothing or travel/read/spend time with family/friends?
IG scrubbing AI in our faces and of course nonsense comes out of it 😆
gotta laugh at AI...
Apparently os instagram is trying to push pop up buttons over people posts to "help" you find related / similar posts..
So I was seeing this and a pop up showed saying "tuorial" so I thought, oh coll this guy made a tut showing how he built this...
but no.
It's IG trying to use AI.
And of course the "AI explanation" of the subject is absolute nonsense!
Trying to learn Blender, but I need guidance. What would you recommend: School of Motion or Patata school?
I have years of experience with 2D motion only.
Tried learning C4D and Blender on my own many times but always fail. So I wan a proper online program to help me learn.
I'm open to other online courses suggestions as well.
