Does all magic need a prerequisite?

Hi all!

New to the game and really liking it - maybe 6 hours in or so. I played the tutorial to get an idea of some of the mechanics first, I’ve just now sort of figured out the skill system (thanks to reddit scavenging).

I was contemplating doing magic/ hybrid and was wondering if all magic requires some form of consumable Item prerequisite or not?

Examples;

  1. in tutorial you needed a fire stone to create an area on the ground to create a fireball
  2. in starting town you can learn spell blade, but I noticed to put fire element on your weapon, you also need Warm Boon… which requires I guess a potion or something similar.

So I’m just wondering if all magic is like that or if I’ll be able to cast spells with needing to consume an item every time

Definitive Edition and why you shouldn‘t get it

I own hundreds of games, never had a single issue I couldn‘t solve when it came to downloading/installing issues on Steam (and I‘ve had quite a few of those over the years).

Got this game today (together with two others) after a recommendation for Outward, saw the DE and figured why not, sounds good. The other games installed smoothly and without issues. Again, this was a CLEAN install, no mods, no old files, no baggage.

THIS game got „missing files“ first, then „disk error“ which is absolute nonsense, the hardware is brand new and works flawlessly for everything else. Did everything under the sun to troubleshoot this, didn‘t work.

I now have the Outward data stuck in my steamapps/downloading folder. Clearing the download cache hasn‘t worked, deleting the content manually hasn‘t worked, force delete: nothing. Nothing via cmd. Running steam as admin? The seemingly undeletable file simply laughed at me. I was able to delete the outward_def folder and FINALLY managed to get the game out of the steam download queue, but the „normal“ outward folder is still stuck inside /downloading and NOTHING. WORKS.

This is an absolute clusterfuck of files, do not touch. It‘s unlike anything I‘ve seen to date.

I don‘t really want to discuss this but had to flair. I‘m simply trying to warn others who are researching this game before purchasing.

Pearlbird mask is such BS

So many people like me got the mask on our 1st pearlbird kill ever... for me that was close to when the game first came out. Now I'm farming on my definitive edition character and I killed 250 birds camping outside cierzo with a halberd. These devs are doing something I swear

Wide Hats and backpacks

Is there any backpack that doesn't clip through the wide wizard hats? It's so distracting and this game is 90% running around with a hat and backpack...

Hello, I've always wanted to delve deeper into Outward. I struggle with the difficulty but I adore the concept of this game. I feel like a lot of people shit on it for the graphics or the difficulty. Either way I'm posting this because I am looking to see if anyone is interested in playing? Lmk Im down to chill

Am I Alone Thinking Outward Should Have Enemy Scaling?

Outward is its own unique game but from my experience with 200 hours in OW1 and played OW2 quite frequently. As you get more skills and items, regular enemies end up as a nuisance than a challenge. I get it can be seen as a reward for getting stronger but am I alone in thinking Outward should have enemy scaling? Im not talking about bosses since they are done pretty well. Instead Im focusing on regular enemies to make sure they dont become punching bags.

My thought was with every breakthrough skill you unlock. The harder regular enemies become. Or a hidden system where every 1000 silver you spend, enemies get harder since amount of silver is equivalent to strength in this game. Or another seamless method. It could be implemented by

-Increased health, stability and damage. Which is the most straightforward solution but also very thoughtless and unappealing.

-More agressive AI with lengthier combos, less stamina penalties and more reactive to block or dodge.

-They have better items and use active skills/spells.

-Lastly, increasing enemy count by 1-2 might help if enemy aggro is increased as well/calling out to nearby allies. Though more enemies means more loot and in turn can make the game easier if drop rate isnt reduced.

-Increased chance for harder enemy variation/types to respawn in the area where the regular enemy spawned before/add tougher enemies to respawn pool of enemies while keeping the old ones.

Endgame Kazite spellblade help

I want to do a playthrough using the kazite spell blade as a sort of battle mage. I know some of the endgame areas such as cirroco have very tough enemies though, and I’m not sure what to pair with KSB or which faction to join. Do you guys have any recommendations or completed the game using KSB yourselves? Any help would be appreciated!

Help Raid Mod.

I'm relatively new to the game, with about 20 hours of solo playtime.

I stopped playing a few months ago, but now I’m back to play co-op with a friend. Although he is an RPG veteran, he has never played Outward before. We have about 3 hours into this run, it's day 5, and we just managed to gather the silver to pay off the lighthouse (150 silver) and now we are finishing up the troglodyte shield quest.

However, there are two things that have been bothering me a lot:

1 – Difficulty: I remember that playing solo was very tense. But in duo, I'm finding it relatively easy. I wouldn't say it's super easy, but it's definitely not hard either. When I say 'hard', I don't even mean the difficulty itself, but rather the tension. Before, killing 2 bandits early on was a real challenge that required careful planning; in duo, it's just too simple. I want to bring back that solo-play tension to our co-op run. I did some research and found Raid Mode, which allows you to increase the difficulty, but I'm not sure how to tune it. It gives you the option to use automatic or manual scaling.

Is the automatic scaling good, or do you recommend doing it manually?

With manual scaling, I can increase enemy HP, damage, and impact resistance, but I don't know how much I should increase them to reach my goal. Keep in mind, I don't want a hardcore mode that is punishingly difficult, just something that brings back the risk of dying if we don't plan out our fights.

2 – Dialogue: When we talk to quest NPCs, the text showing what the NPC is saying does pop up for the other player (though I feel like some dialogue boxes get skipped), but the options/choices that the host is picking do not show up for the client.

Is there any mod or way to fix or improve this?

I think these are our main issues right now. Everything else in the game feels great and we want to keep it vanilla (including keeping quest rewards non-shared/non-duplicated).

Is this game a walking simulator or am I doing it wrong?

Hi guys,

This post is a mixture of rant and asking for help so thank you for any support :D

I bought the game a few days ago and was so hyped to try it out. At first it was okay-ish fighting a few bandits and hyenas, getting the first skill at the trainer buying the lighthouse back etc. so far so good.

But since I joined the blue faction in Berg it has literally been only running. „Oh you just came back from the starting town how about you run it all back? Oh your back at the starting town how about you run half the map down to the south?“ I entered the Fanvell caste talked to a guy and instantly lost all my stuff becoming enslaved? Like what?? :D

Why was there no fight? Did I just hand over all my stuff and was like here you go I will mine iron for you now? But still it was okay…

Then I give a woman a makeshift dagger and instead of helping me escape or something like that she just kills herself lol.

I jump down the hole a bandit instantly sees me after waking up knocks me out again and I am back in the starting town with the task to walk back to the bandit castle and no way to get my stuff back.

This game has been really frustrating like not hard to play but really non transparent in the choices and the consequences. Is it just me or is this game just like this?

Thanks!

Furry mod?

I've loved this game for years and recently got super back into it, but I wanted to try it on the computer, however I'd hoped maybe there might've been a furry mod at some point over the years, but couldn't find anything at all. I love all the silly animal helmets, though I wish they were more build friendly, but I want a real true furry mod. We can already be weird and play troglodytes, so why not at least let me spawn in as a calygrey or something?

Just want some help on finding something niche, in case it's hidden and I haven't yet found it.

Chimera pistol, can someone help me out

Hi all! I started a new character on PC, in the original outward game. Running a CH/Mercenary/Rogue engineer build. Only one thing.. I forgot to do the Blood Under the Sun quests.

Could someone help me out and let them join their world so I can buy a Chimera Pistol?

Thanks in advance!

New build question..

I really want to try this cool down reduction build with gloves, but I need to go to antique plateau first, to get prismatic fury and the speedster tree.

But once I get there, does the rust and vengeance quest starts automatically? 🤔

I haven't started any faction quest yet. Still in cierzo getting mana and the wind cabal boons

Can it be done? Or do I have to wait till later? 🤔

I really really like the game, but is one thing that takes me out

I like the combat is hard, but one thing is, one you get it, you get it and is fun, specially those knuckles..

What I have a gripe is the little things,

For example. There is so much walking, there aren't any footprints. Wouldn't that add so much to experience just leaving nice footprints. Specially in the desert or snow.

The second one is that there is no damage to the environment while fighting other enemies

Aside from that really like the game

Best faction for a no mana run

I'm returning to OW1 after playing the beta for OW2. What a beautiful game. I have a couple of hundred hours in it so I'm not exactly a newbie, but I never really tackled the endgame content and I'm going to start it strong soon by doing a hardcore run.

I'm preparing a save to leave some legacy items for this purpose alone, but I also want to enjoy it since I'm returning after a long hiatus.

So without getting into much detail, what faction would be suggested for a no mana run?

Wind alter enchantments, and Cabal Hermit role play.

So due to reasons I had to drop outward for a while, coming back I was going to finish my DoT's status effect build playthrough, I was originally planning on switching to the brutal club and enchanting it with crumbling anger, but when I was going through the wiki looking for anything that could give my Fang Sword a bit of an edge, because I'm kind of attached to it, Looking through the enchantments list I found this.

Favorable Wind:
Incense: Luna Incense
Pillars: East Far, West Far
Equipment: Any Fang, Savage or Kizite weapon
Other Conditions: Wind Altar Activated in region
Effects: Adds +20% of the existing weapon's Physical damage as Ethereal damage, Weapon gains +0.1 flat Attack Speed Attack Speed

What caught my eye was it required an activated wind altar in the region for the enchantment, so thinking about it I was wondering what other enchantments required the wind alter, I found three More.

Primal Wind:
Incense: Luna Incense
Pillars: East Far, West Far
Equipment: Black Plate Helm, Orichalcum Helmet
Other Conditions: Wind Altar Activated in region
Effects Gain: +10% Ethereal damage bonus, Gain +10% Impact damage bonus

Light as Wind: Incense: Luna Incense
Pillars: East Far, West Far
Equipment: Black Plate Armor, Orichalcum Armor
Other Conditions: Wind Altar Activated in region
Effects Gain +11% Stamina Cost (-11% Stamina costs), Reduces the Weight of this item by -9

Guidance of Wind:
Incense: Luna Incense
Pillars: East Far, West Far
Equipment: Black Plate Boots or Orichalcum Boots
Other Conditions: Wind Altar in region Activated
Effects Gain +14% Move Speed

Seeing these I kind of want to role play for Full Cabal Hermit, the only two real limiting factors I can see is the fact that the 3 armor enchants can only go on the black plate set and the Orichalcum set, The second is the +40% Mana cost. Even the Tourmaline requirement isn't that bad, I already got one Raiding the Voltaic Hatchery.
The helmet The enchant primal wind seems to be the most synergistic but also the least useful of the 3, like even with light as wind and guidance of wind I feel like you're better off either wearing the master traitor hat or the Pearlbird mask for a movement or stamina, while light as wind and guidance of wind seems to allow you to more or less break even and terms of stamina cost and movement speed.
So I guess what I'm asking is: should I save the Cabal Hermit role play for a heavily armored. 2 hander build, And go with the brutal club+crumbling anger and broad dagger build that I was originally planning Or should I just yell screw it and go for it?
