South Slope / Prospect Ave Vibes?

Been in Park Slope for many years but primarily on the very north side. Currently live in center slope near 3rd St and 6th Ave and have been looking at a couple places in South Slope specifically on Prospect Ave between 6th and 8th Ave.

I know the school is there but just curious about the neighborhood vibes. It seems like a lot of long term families and maybe some turnover happening. I went to Giovanni’s in the old location but don’t have a sense for community. Just curious if there are any insights - good, meh, bad.

Thanks in advance!

Help with lost bracelet

I know this is a long shot, but I lost my bracelet on my run this morning. It is a gold, single band bracelet similar to the one in the attached picture.

It may be along 8th avenue, 10th ave, West, Center or East drive in park or around Windsor Terrace. I’ve attached a map of the route as well.

Any help here is appreciated. I’m willing to pay if anyone finds it, it is a family heirloom.

Looking for Rentals in Park Slope or Windsor Terrace - Fall Edition.

We love our apartment here but our landlord has decided to relocate into it. A real bummer. Looking at streeteasy is really driving home just how much of a bummer it is. So much so I've decided to make this post knowing full well many will respond telling me to go look at streeteasy, to not spam the sub, etc etc. Yes yes. so sorry. I would like to still live in the neighborhood, as it's awesome and my kid is starting daycare in September. So, uh, yeah. Looking for a 2br. The budget you ask? Idk man. I can go highish. We need to move around Nov 15. I wasn't expecting to have to look for an apartment so I don't know how much the rental scene has changed in the post brokerage fee era. So if anyone knows a place coming up that is for some magical reason not going to be listed or you want to avoid listing fees (Is this even a thing?) Please reach out.

Sorry for being annoying. I just want to live here. Apologies!

Help out a genuinely good fella - and dare I say - Park Slope legend

If you’ve ever eaten at Stone Park Cafe, oh, any time in the last two decades (!), you may have encountered Tim Kavarnos - Master of Brunch, Maker of Salamander Hot Sauce, and all around sweet guy.
Well - a couple weeks ago Tim took a fall on his way home from work - and, as can happen, the damage was way worse than you might expect - shattered elbow, two broken wrists. Obviously, he will be out for a while, and things are tough. He is not really expected to be back at work until October.
His friends at the restaurant have organized a GoFundMe situation for him - and I just wanted to get this info out to the public - I know there’s a lot of people out there that don’t know this is going on with him right now, and I also know that there’s a lot of love out there for this guy. ‘Cuz I’ve seen it.
SO - if you just go to GoFundMe and enter “Tim Kavarnos” in the search bar, you will be on your way to helping out a one-of-a-kind person.

Bars with outdoor space for a birthday?

what it says on the tin! Need a bar that ideally has an outdoor area and can accommodate probably 20 people for my birthday. Would love if there wasn’t minimum spend but also will take the rec if there is!

parking ticket

Just relocated for a contract position. GA only requires one plate, and my car is properly registered in GA. Got a 65 dollar parking ticket today because the “Georgia” is partially covered. Even though you can clearly tell the state and my VIN number is visible. The parking ticket is for my tag line being covered.

Two weeks ago I got a parking ticket because a hotel parking pass was partially covering my vin number on the front of my car.

In both of these cases I was legally parked with no other issues. Am I wrong to think this is nuts or am I just new here?

Mostly seeking validation, commiseration, or a large consensus that I need to buck up.

Update: removed the dealer plate. No interest in having a reoccurring problem! Just wanted secondary opinions on the normalcy of the matter and possible explanations since I’m new. Thank you!

Provini vs. Ottava?

Family dinner for an engagement. 12-15 people. Having trouble deciding between the two. Which one would you choose and why? Less concerned with budget, more curious to compare ambience and food.

Creepy masturbator (50s-60s) outside 4th Ave/9th St R Station

Hi everyone! This should come as no surprise, but I wanted to warn folks (particularly fellow women and girls residing in the neighborhood) about a creep I encountered today. As I was approaching the 4th Ave 9th St (NE corner) R entrance around 2:15 pm today, there was an older white man (heavy-set, roughly 5’8”, likely in his 50s-60s, scruffy looking white hair that was slightly past his ears, and wearing a backwards baseball cap) standing outside the entrance masturbating and staring directly at me. I screamed “fuck you” at him and immediately ran into the station and reported him to the MTA worker there, but when she went upstairs to try to take a photo of him, he had run away. Unfortunately I was in shock so I didn’t think to take a photo or video until it was too late, but I’m planning to report this to the police as soon as I get home. I’m not counting on them actually doing anything about this, but I figure it doesn’t hurt lol.

Please stay safe out there everyone!

Russian School of Mathematics for a 1st grader anyone?

Hi parents of park slope,

Just wanted to get a feel for how you felt about sending your kid to Russian School of Mathematics on 5th ave. I have a rising 1st grader who's reading, writing, and math are at a below average level according to her K report card. I'm not too concerned about it as she is also multilingual and I don't want her to be overtly engaged in academics yet. But, I do realize the limitation in us as parents on how much and how well i can teach her the basics of english and math overall to assist (time wise but also methodology wise).

I feel like I'd be better at it once she knows how to read, write and do some basic math haha..hope that makes sense. But at the same time, i'm not sure if i can rely solely on the school to teach her all this effectively if she's below average since I know her peers are probably already reading for example. Math is a separate issue..but I wanted to inquire about Russian School of Mathematics only because I'd rather have her learn something for after school that would be useful for her school learning in math if she's gonna fill up her time after school anyway since we both work.

So i'm not looking for some rigorous academic learning at this age. Just want this to assist her learning in math in a positive way to build a good foundation in math and also provide her with a different way of thinking than just rigid in and out learning when it comes to math. And..i just need an after school program.

With all this said, would you recommend this for a first grader? Also any personal experiences with RSM park slope as an after school program would also be great.

Weekend F - Diabolical As Ever

The F usually waits for an A or C at Jay. Today it pulled in just before an A. I hopped onto a mostly empty F, and as the Brooklyn-bound A’s doors opened, a flood of people poured off and rushed the platform. The F did not reopen its doors. It just left. Next F: 18 minutes.

Then it gets better. Because of repair work this weekend, that same F skips ahead to 7th Ave. So if you’re trying to reach the Manhattan-bound platforms at Bergen, Carroll, Smith–9th, or 4th Ave, your only move is to catch a Manhattan-bound F from 7th, or transfer to one the moment your train pulls in.

We pull into 7th Ave, and sure enough there’s a Manhattan-bound F on the local track right across the platform. Everyone on my train is GEARED for it. It leaves. Next Manhattan bound F: 23 minutes.

I got off at 7th so I was fine, but come on, MTA. What are we doing here? Keep the flow of people moving. Now you’ve got a platform full of people waiting 23 minutes when that train could’ve held 15 seconds for the transfer. If you’re going to close station access with no shuttle alternative, at least put in the effort to make sure people can still get where they’re going.
