Park Slope grocery price check, from this week's store circulars (Lidl, Whole Foods, C-Town, Foodtown, Stop & Shop)
Disclosure first: I built the free site linked at the end, no signup and no ads, and this post is mostly data.
Park Slope is the one neighborhood where a lot of people do their real shopping at the Food Coop, so a circular roundup feels a little beside the point. But if you are not doing a Coop shift this week, or you just want to know where the regular supermarkets are cheap right now, I read every Park Slope store's weekly ad each morning and this is what they are leading with.
A timing note: the C-Town, Foodtown, and Stop & Shop ads below run through tonight (Thursday 7/16) and flip to a new week tomorrow, while the Lidl and Whole Foods ads are the current 7/15 to 7/21 week.
Lidl (120 5th Ave), week of 7/15 to 7/21:
- Tomatoes on the vine, $1.49
- Bellarom ground coffee, $4.79
Whole Foods (214 3rd St), week of 7/15 to 7/21 (Prime price in parentheses):
- Strawberries, 16 oz, 2 for $7.78 ($7 for 2 with Prime)
- Yellow peaches, $2.77/lb ($2.49/lb with Prime)
- Large Hass avocados, 2 for $5.56 ($5 for 2 with Prime)
C-Town (329 9th St), through tonight 7/16:
- Seedless watermelon, quarter cuts, 79 cents
- Slicing tomatoes, $1.49
- Yellow nectarines and southern peaches, $1.49
- Red seedless grapes, $3.99
Foodtown (409 5th Ave), through tonight 7/16:
- Land O Lakes cage free large white eggs, $3.49
- La Yogurt, 10 for $8 (80 cents each)
- Land O Lakes whipped butter, $2.99
Stop & Shop (Atlantic Terminal, 625 Atlantic Ave), through tonight 7/16:
- Red seedless grapes, $2.69
- Tomatoes on the vine, $1.88
- 90% lean ground beef, $5.99/lb
A couple of head to head notes: on tomatoes on the vine, Lidl ($1.49, and good through next Monday) beats Stop & Shop ($1.88). On red seedless grapes, Stop & Shop ($2.69) beats C-Town ($3.99), but both of those ads end tonight.

Random attack on 6th Ave - please be careful
PSA: I was just sucker punched by this psycho on 6th Ave between 5th and 6th, in broad daylight. This man elbow'ed me with full force, completely out of the blue. I was next to my SO, walking our dog.
I was stunned for a few seconds, then yelled at him. He kept walking as if nothing had happened. I considered confronting him, but I didn't want to risk escalating the situation.
Please stay alert and be safe out there.

UPDATE (next morning): just came back from CityMD: have a bruise and a tenderness, but doesn't look like a fractured rib. I also filled a police report. The officers from NYPD 78th Precinct were courteous and respectful, took all information, photos, and will send to a detective.
Per their advice: hopefully it won't happen again, but if it ever happens, call 911 on the spot. This way they can send someone to check right away.

Street pooping at 10am - did something change in the area?
On Thursday , 10am, saw a man openly shit on the street on 4th and 20th. Then by the r stop I saw a man pissing. He at least was doing it discreetly. Has there been some sort of turnover at a shelter? The pooping man was ranting and screaming, obviously unwell (the biggest hint being him shitting in a street at 10am) and the pissing man was obviously unhoused.
I haven’t seen this type of behavior back to back around here in a long while. Moreso curious if something new has occurred or ifs more a dam breaking scenario

super stoop feedback
this tiktok (not by me) sums up the experience my friends and i had as visitors to your neighborhood:
a minority of truly lovely folks with quality items that were overshadowed by the vast majority of bad actors. very silly prices by out of touch people. lots of stuff that should have been trash / donations. lots of snootiness if anyone pointed out the absurd pricing or declined to purchase.
i live in another neighborhood bordering the park, and enjoy park slope quite a bit – this event did not show yall in the best light.

Super Stoop 14th Street 5&6th
Hey everyone ! Please come check out my grandma’s stoop sale tomorrow on 14th Street between 5th & 6th at the building with the green awning. She has every appliance you can think of. I’m expecting a baby in a month from now and I just moved back in with her & she had to move all of her items into the living room to make space for me in my old bedroom.
