Probably clutching at straws, but here’s something for my fellow UK Pavement heads

Unannounced warmup shows?

Some bands do this especially after months long gaps in shows. Do you think the guys will do any “secret” warmup shows prior to 7/17? If so guess it would be CA or Northwest??

Any current bands around that could compete with Pavement, Silver Jews, Palace or Royal Trux?

Please don't say mid bands who play wholesome crap that everyone says they like but it's really just mediocre.

Bands that could hold their own against those bands with writing skill, inventiveness and ideas.

Thanks

Rare Wowee Zowee CD?

Last August, I went to New York City and found this CD in a small shop. It says “Promotional use only” so I was wondering if it’s rare or something?

Looking for a live show video (I want to say around 1994) where on Fight This Generation Spiral lets out some really crazy screams.

Like around the "I'm an animal" part. I can't find it.

Pavement connection in Is This Thing On.

Mark & Amy Sedaris and Malk & Will Arnett. Mark had a cameo on an episode of Strangers With Candy and he and his wife are food stylists on At Home With Amy Sedaris. Malk did the music for Arnett’s show Flaked. (I feel like such a dork right now.) Also, I loved this movie.

Stephen Malkmus on Wait Wait Dont Tell Me

Jesús H. Christ. Anyone else just hear Stephen Malkmus Wait Wait? That was painful - likely the worst guest they’ve ever had. Was he high? Related - I was just reminded how bad Pavement sucks balls - mostly because of this no talent slacker. I get he’s from Chicago and lead singer of an overrated band but come on Wait Wait, do better!!

1998-1999 Pavement

I can say with confidence that Wowee Zowee and Brighten The Corners will always be my favorite albums. Pavement's fecundity from 1994-1997 is particularly astonishing to me, perhaps on par with eruptions of genius we've only seen from Dylan, Neil Young, the Stones. While I consider this stretch to be Pavement's finest, I do not find myself as curious about it as I am about their final years. I keep coming back to 1998-1999 as it seems to me to have taken on a mythic status. It is a period fragmentarily documented which continues to invite speculation and frustration. The conventional narrative insists these were years of decline, yet the evidence— live performances, B-sides, Malkmus's demos and songwriting, interviews —suggests something more elusive. Not a band running out of inspiration, but one whose creative energies had become harder to recognize.

What do you guys think of this time? I am considering writing a piece about it and would very much like to hear people's thoughts.

SM on WWDTM

Stephen Malkmus on NPR show "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" this weekend. They asked a couple of the stereotypical questions that one expects, and it was a little like pulling teeth and a little awkward, but overall a good listen.

terror twilight wallpaper i found on wallpaper engine

its actually really cool cz it plays the instrumentals of some of the songs on the album in the background and is like somewhat animated as it glows a bit sometimes! i find it weird that this was the only pavement wallpaper i found on there since terror twilight is probably their least popular album

To the Pavement fans among us who have a penchant for sundresses

Given it is summer:

Glance, don’t stare. Else you’ll soon be told YOU’RE IN YOUR UNDERWEAR* to recognise your heirs.

Of course, I’m not talking about me. I’m an island of such great complexity.

*For those who are feel they are unfamiliar with this reference, I encourage you to revisit the Tilburg show recording from 1999.

Put the dry Lancers to the side and get your shit together.
