What did Apple pay Thom for this
Im sure many love it but I don’t get it
Let’s face it they have now played the same songs over and over again for the last three years or so of this second reunion tour. They are very tight and they don’t improvise at all. So to have a moment in the show where they’re just improvising and Stephen is jamming the way they did “the killing moon“ is really glorious and we should all appreciate it.
The sounds on this record are great, lyrics are great, the flow is great. It suffers from having guests who were hip at the time that have not aged well, but that’s a problem with a lot of hip-hop. Let’s discuss.
Tree of Smoke is a masterpiece where any age has brilliant unique dialogue and description.
Nobody Move is awful
Already Dead is Pynchon-wannabe
Jesus Son is classic
The Laughing Monster is amazing in a Robert Stone way
Train Dreams is a masterpiece
Angels is derivative and cliched
The Stars at Noon is poetic
Anyone have any top tier Johnson?
In the review, they referred to this music as the definition of jazz. But it doesn’t earn a 10. Meanwhile, a Fiona Apple record nobody listens to anymore did.
I understand the lineage, and what Chiat LA was, but there is no cultural or creative leneage between Chicago office who used to be DDB. So why are they called Chiat Day Chicago and not TBWA Chicago? TBWA has a great global legacy. When agencies have inconsistent branding, what are you supposed to think as a client?
I’m not crying rip off. I’m just saying the same vibe. I thought I would never hear anywhere else’s all over this entire album, but especially on this track.
I was pretty much convinced I was a mile completist, As much as that’s possible with all of the box sets and re-issues. Somehow this record escaped me. I think someone I respect once told me it was minor and I skipped over it. But it is blazing. Tony Williams is on fire in a way. I can’t compare to anything else up until that point. Thoughts on this whole album, but particularly this track?
Around 25 years ago, she went on a run of jazz albums that crossed over somewhat into popular music charts. She even did a great album where she added vocals to Miles Davis electric melodies. Arguable if they were all great, but it was a great concept and a success. She got caught up in trying to do “cool rock covers“, but she did them well. And then suddenly she seems to have disappeared? Anybody seen her around recently?
Dont you need diversity of perspective in a panel of judges? Nobody else counts?
EDIT: some Cleo’s juries were 90-100%. Nothing against people from Brazil and I hope it doesn’t come off that way. I just don’t understand why everyone judging global advertising isn’t from different markets so they can understand communication communications in those markets better?
The album has 3 songs parenthetically listed as alternate takes. But not the actual original used takes. What’s the deal here?
He covered “street spirit” on his album “scratch my back”. The idea was, he would cover a song and then that artist would cover his songs, but they walked away from it after committing. Just interested in knowing why.
