Single Player Rank in Perfect Dark N64

Single Player Rank in Perfect Dark N64

Hi all, I have a question about how the single player rank/level is determined on the agent select screen on the N64 game.

I apparently at some point or another got rid of my personal PD cartridge, and ended up buying one on eBay when my Analogue 3D came in. I've been messing around with a Perfect Dark save editor to unlock levels and cheats and stuff for easy replayability, and will likely use another profile to do an actual run of the campaign. No matter what I've tweaked in the editor, the title under my profile name remains "New Recruit" (image included), and I'm wondering what determines the title here.

I've messed around with the combat simulator statistics already, and that ranking is separate. I've gone through and unlocked the various challenges and trainings, and this hasn't changed. I've also tried Googling for more info but so far I haven't found any info. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!

Perfect Dark mixtape

I can't remember which tracks were on it, as it's been so long but it was essentially a hip hop mixtape with sound effects from the game Perfect Dark added in. I remember listening to it quite a bit back in my piracy days, but can't find a copy or even a trace of it online anywhere. My buddy says he has a copy on a hard drive somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath.

As far as the internet is concerned, it does not exist, and so here I am, as the last shred of evidence. If my buddy pulls through, I will add the track list in a comment.

Need Help and Strategies, cannot progress past Carrington Institute: Defense - Special Agent

I‘ve watched multiple tutorials and have attempted this level multiple times, but I just cannot make it past it. I don’t know why. The guards are very strong in this level between their guns and their shield, so it’s very hard to kill them. I always end up taking a hit early on and then dying later. I know where the shield device is, and I always go to grab it. Most of the gameplay I’ve seen in this level was emulated on a PC with mouse controls, which seems much easier than on an N64 controller to me. I’m playing on original hardware, and while the controls are good, doing what you have to do to survive at times is very hard.

One time I was so close to beating this. On my farthest run, and went to go defuse the bomb, but a horde of enemies came and cornered me, and I lost.

Any help would be appreciate. This game rocks but it’s very difficult right now.

The 2026 Star Fox and Halo remakes make we long for a similar remake of Perfect Dark

Both Star Fox and Halo are perfect remakes of the original levels, features and gameplay but with modern visuals, and they are getting a ton of love both from the people who grew up with these games, and from modern gamers that never experienced the simple fun gameplay these games offer.

This is what we who grew up with these games want, and it will also appeal to new generations who will find in them the same joy we felt when we played them decades ago.

The announced and cancelled Perfect Dark game never felt like Perfect Dark in any of the videos they released. The gameplay was completely different from the game we grew up playing for thousands of hours.

Instead of abandoning the franchise, Microsoft should take the 2026 Star Fox and 2026 Halo approach and make a game that plays the same as the n64 game, featuring all of the awesome modes, bots etc, same gameplay, modern graphics. Do you agree?

PDZ PC port?

Been wondering if we're ever going to witness the Perfect Dark Zero getting a port on PC, since lots of Xbox stuff is possible to port now.

How does Datadyne work in universe, legally speaking?

How are they allowed to arm their employees with fully automatic weapons, and how does Joana attacking their main building and killing multiple personnel not result in some police or military response? Is Joana just very stealthy in canon or is there a reason datadyne wouldn't want assistance from the government in dealing with threats?

Perfect Dark OST - Physical editions and favorite track

Perfect Dark followed up.on Goldeneye's legendary OST. While they incorporated the Bond melodies in lots of them, Perfect Dark came up with a totally new direction.

Does anyone of you own eother the orginal CDs or the later released vinyl edition? Unfortunately I learnt that the vonyl.does not include Crashsite - which is crazy why they chose to exclude it as it is one, if not the best track....

Anyone know something about it or where to get the original OST cd? Discogs doesn't have it and prices are crazy for the vinyl...

My favorites are Crashsite, apparently, and Carrington Villa. But many others coming in close.

What are yours?

What if Perfect Dark was a launch title for the GameCube?

As the title suggests, how would Perfect Dark's legacy have been changed had the first game been released on the GameCube instead of the Nintendo 64? Would your experience with Perfect Dark change? Would it be for better or for worse?

I downloaded the recent PC decomp and played for awhile and now have save data. I've now downloaded the older all-in-one mod. How do I successfully merge the two?

I can't figure out how to do it without my save data being erased. Which I guess is fine but I'd like to avoid it if I could! Thank you..

Played it for the first time. Strategy for final boss eluded me, despite the hint/direction in the briefing.

Not a criticism; the game is fantastic. Just an observation. I’m curious how others fared at this same point, or how common it is (or was, back in the day) to be stumped for a bit in terms of figuring out the intended strategy. I’ve only completed it on the lowest difficulty (Agent), so I’m not yet sure if it gets even more complicated on other difficulty settings.

My mistakes:

  • I interpreted the “shrine” to encompass anything in the battle room. The IR sensor marked out those destructible slanted beams above the altar. They’re the only beams that the Skedar leader’s projectiles cannot strike, so I figured at first I had to destroy those with a rocket or grenade launcher.

  • I also wondered if a prompt (like Elvis chiming in) would activate after the leader took enough damage, like something would suddenly become destructible? The briefing only mentions needing to destroy something before “the final blow.”

  • I kinda wrote off the statue early on, as it seemed to have no reaction to my gunfire even when the Skedar leader was healing. Seemed 100% shielded. I knew I had to eventually cut off his access to the statue, but I kept thinking it must require some other intermediary step.

These ideas were dead ends, and I wound up replaying the stage a fair bit as I was troubleshooting, which I actually found nicely nostalgic. Felt very much like an old-school boss fight in its somewhat mysterious quality.

PDCentral (.com) had the best message boards back in the day. And The PD Savage was a famous member that had the best custom multiplayer scenarios. The Wayback Machine had them. Here are some of them.

I’ve been meaning to go back and find this stuff and I finally did. I randomly picked a snapshot date from 2004 and the first page of the “Custom Multiplayer Scenarios” section had a huge list of his scenarios compiled by someone else after he got banned (by mistake I believe)

Anyway. He was an absolute legend. Let me know if this link doesn’t work. I’ll just copy and paste the individual setups if it doesn’t.
