Positioning, Luck, And being a good/bad player

It always feels like this game shafts me so hard.

Technically I'm not a bad player. If I'm left a pot on, I usually get it.

But almost every single time I'm on the table, The opponent has left me nothing on. If I do manage to pot something, Almost every single fucking time I pot something, The white then stops in a place that's either right on the cushion, Or with nothing on, Or both.

Meaning I look like a terrible player as I miss almost everything because every single time I'm at the table all I have is nothing, Or something extremely difficult.

Yet everyone else looks a good player compared to me, Because of damn course everytime I let my opponent on the table, They've got a damn easy selection to go for. And every time they pot, The white is usually nice in the middle of the table for them to have a good few choices at what they want.

So everyone else looks good because they pot most things and I don't. But that's only because every single time I'm at the table I never have anything easy on and am forced into tough pots that I usually miss.

Is it normal to have a preference of solid or stripe?

Whenever I play my mates having a solid just feels right. I hope i pot a solid first or my mates pot a stripe so I can just have it.

Playing, Getting better, Not getting better

How do people manage to get better at this game, Without anyone telling them how. Basically anyone who plays this game, Gets good at it just from repeated play and self learning.

I've been playing for about 4 and a half years, I get lessons from an instructor, And I still regularly come across people who don't play, People who haven't been playing as long as I have, Being consistently a lot better than I am. Of which they have obviously had nobody helping them along.

So why can they be better than me?

I got these for my wife because I love her.

The glove is made by BPBA which is the Chinese Professional Billiards Association, they seem to make cloth and gloves. They aren’t cheap but in Australia are about half the price of the TAOM glove that also has a nice pink glove available. The double stitching won me over, even expensive gloves are notorious for their lack of durability.

The pink chalk is very cool. You pay a bit extra but you pay through the nose for TAOM to start with and it’s not much extra over that. It even came with a nice little case for protection in storage or when travelling.

Thoughts on the Rasson Acurra Gen 2?

We just reviewed the Rasson Acurra Gen 2, and I’m curious what people think about it.

It definitely leans more modern/tournament-style than a lot of traditional home tables, which makes it interesting from both a player’s perspective and a buyer’s perspective.

For those who have played on Rasson tables, how do you feel about them compared to Diamond?

Skill level

So, I was talking to a guy I knew tonight. And he told me about a dude he knows. This dude is apparently only 18.

When he told me who th person was, I realised who he was on about. A couple years ago I played against who he was on about and he was shit and I beat him easy.

What he was telling me tonight. That kid recently won a tournament at a local pool hall and won 1 THOUSAND 3 HUNDRED POUNDS!!!

Like that's not fair. I played him when he was shit. I was better than him. I've been playing this game longer than him. I SHOULD BE LEAGUES FUCKING BETTER THAN HIM. THAT'S NOT FAIR. I'M NOTHING LIKE AS GOOD AS HE IS NOW. I SHOULD BE THAT FUCKING GOOD. HE SHOULDN'T BE. I SHOULD. I'M BETTER THAN HIM. I BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME LONGER THAN HIM. WHAT THE FUCK DOES AN 18 YR OLD THINK HE'S DOING WITH OVER A GRAND!?; HOW MANY OF US WORK HARD EVERY DAY IN A DAY JOB AND GET FUCK ALL AND HE GETS OVER A GRAND IN A TOURNAMENT.

I WAS BETTER THAN HIM. HE SHOULDN'T BE THAT GOOD BECAUSE I'VE BEEN PLAYING FAR LONGWR THAN HIM. WHO THE HELL DOES THAT GUY THINK HE IS!?

Pool cue ??

Can anyone identify this cue stick. There are no markings, stamping or inset numbers, etc. I have seen similar sticks trying to identify this one but none seem to have the inlay buttons. It is very heavy maybe 19 or 20 oz. Black rubber foot, and screw on tip to which the shooting tip is attached.

early 1900s billiard table

I'm told this thing was built in the early 1900s, 3 separate slates, Grandpa bought it 2nd hand from a local pool hall in after WW2 and has been in this basement ever since. New felt and bumpers in early 2000s. Curious what the market for such a thing would be?
