Shift Knob Replacement

Im looking to replace the Shift Knob in my 15’ Q50, but I’m looking for something very similar to this if not this exact one. I like the leather and the look of it, does anyone know where I can find some of these? Also it doesn’t really matter but does anyone know what the notch beside the P is on the shifter? Im just curious.

Warranty work in Canada

So getting the turbos warrantied for a 2017 RS. Only mods is AMS intakes. Will the AMS ones void the warranty for turbos? I heard they have to somehow prove intakes caused turbo issues.

Thank you!

Built a structured way to document G87 builds

Hey G87 owners,

We launched 5 months ago, and owners have already added 1,900+ documented builds. Across the platform, that now represents $70M+ in documented build value.

G87 builds can change quickly, but the details usually end up scattered across Instagram captions, forum threads, photo albums, spreadsheets, and old messages. That makes it difficult to see the complete setup or follow how a car has evolved.

So I built permanent, structured build pages where each owner can keep everything together:

  • Full modification list and exact specifications
  • Wheel, tire, suspension, and fitment details
  • Power figures and dyno results
  • Shops and clubs involved
  • Photos with modifications tagged directly on them
  • A build-history timeline for deliveries, installations, upgrades, repairs, and other milestones

Here are three G87 M2 builds currently documented:

Whether your G87 is stock, lightly modified, built for power, or still waiting for its first parts, you can create a page and keep the complete build organized as it develops.

I’d genuinely love feedback from G87 owners. What would you find most useful to compare across builds: wheel and suspension fitment, exact tune and fuel combinations, or long-term modification history?

My 2014 q50’s driver seat split open. Looking for options

What’s the best course for action here? My wife talked to an upholstery shop but he said there aren’t replacement parts for it. I’m not opposed to just putting a seat cover over it but what about the seat extension?

After reading all these problems

Makes me not want to get a q50 ,it's been one of my dream cars for a while but it makes me want to get a new Honda civic instead. What other alternatives do I have?

DISCUSSION: You see way more blown turbos on 2019+ because it's not as many "true enthusiastis"

I'll start off by saying we all know the turbos were never "upgraded". If you still believe infiniti has revamped the seals, you are clearly baiting/trolling.

From owning this car a decade now I've seen a million blown turbo posts. Whether it's on here, FB, or other online forums. I have seen a plethora more turbos blowing on 2019+ then I have seen on 16-17.

My theory is, I imagine lots of other guys were similar to myself when they picked one up when they first came out.

I thought, wow, a scaled down gtr engine. How cool. Of course, having prior knowledge on the VR platform and turbo vehicles in general, I drove and maintained it properly from the word go.

Fast forward to 2019 when these cars were coming off lease for pennies, now you have the G crowd and anyone else wanting to go fast for cheap picking up a vr30. These drivers aren't knowledgeable on turbo vehicles and end up blowing them up.

Curious as to what other people's thoughts are!

Wheel came off

Based on these photos and some context: I was making a U-turn when, about halfway through, my front passenger-side wheel came off. The car then scraped along the ground for roughly another 15 feet, mainly on the brake/caliper area.
Do you think this is something I could realistically repair myself? What would you check or test first to determine whether the car is still mechanically drivable?
I was thinking about installing another wheel just to see whether the car can move under its own power, whether the suspension looks normal under load, or if it goes into limp mode or shows any obvious problems. I’d also want to inspect underneath the car for any damage from scraping.
Also, the fluid visible underneath the car in the photos is just condensation from the A/C.

Thoughts?

Help!!

I have a 2014 q50 99k miles. I changed out my coolant reservoir and brand new radiator but my car is still overheating everytime I’m stuck in traffic or driving slow. Mind you I live in vegas so it is hot, but that shouldn’t be an issue. And I always make sure my coolant tank is full. Not sure what it could be?

Difference between 2014 and 2015

I bought a 2014 q50 premium and a 2015 q50 premium yesterday. The 2015 has Akebono but the 2014 does not. Was there a sport option that wasn't "q50 sport"? Or was 2015 just special?

Not confident in mechanic’s diagnosis

I have a 2022 Infiniti q50 luxe and wanted to get the community’s opinion of a problem I was having. The other day, my q50 wouldn’t start and it would click once without turning over. This lead me to believe the starter was going out or the battery was dying. It miraculously started yesterday and I took it to a mechanic and they said it was throwing codes for the camshaft mistiming and they recommended getting a cam sensor replace and that can cause it too. I never had a check engine light and they said the starter and battery looked good. Should I get a second opinion or does this check out to you guys? I have an extended warranty so not like it really matters but just want to get the issue fixed.

Thanks all!

Face lift shift knob

Recently I tried installing the newer-style shift knob and matching boot on my 2016 Q50, but I’m running into an issue with the shift-lock plunger.

With the original knob installed, everything works normally — I have to press the button to actuate the plunger before I can shift. With the newer knob installed, the button doesn’t actuate the plunger at all, and the shifter can move freely without pressing the button.
Looking inside the newer knob, there’s a plastic bar/actuator running straight down the center. If I manually press that bar down with a thin screwdriver, it actuates the plunger correctly. The issue seems to be that once the knob is installed, the button mechanism isn’t reaching or pushing it far enough.

From what I’ve researched, the newer Q50 knob is supposed to be a fairly plug-and-play swap on the older models. However, I noticed the plastic base/shaft on my new knob is longer than the OEM 2016 knob, which makes me think it may be bottoming out before the mechanism can properly engage the plunger.

I attached a picture of the exact knob / boot I installed, which is the eBay one, along with a picture of another version I found online that doesn’t have the bar running down the middle.

Did I buy the wrong version of the newer knob, or is some modification normally required for a 2016?
I’m considering returning the eBay one and ordering the other version, but I’m worried I could run into the same issue if its base is still too long to properly reach the plunger. Would I be better off ordering the other style, or shortening/modifying the base on the knob I already have?

If anyone has done the newer shift knob/boot swap on a 2014–2016 Q50, I’d appreciate any advice on which version actually works.

Future Q50 3.7 2014-2015 Question

So I plan on getting a 2014/2015 Q50, and a potential issue I tend to see is the valve body going out and i’m here to see the most cost effective solution to fix it. I’ve came across 3 different solutions and I would like to know which is best.

  1. Swap a VR30 transmission into a Q50 3.7

  2. Swap a VR30 Valve Body into a Q50 3.7 original transmission

  3. Swap another Q50 3.7 Valve Body into the original transmission (Heard it might go out once again)
