Built a 7ft 6in illuminated lamp entirely out of popsicle sticks. Took 600+ hours. It’s basically the size of a doorway. [self]

90” tall, 27½” wide and deep, ~100 lbs — all craft sticks, resin, and a lot of stubbornness. No blueprints. I boiled sticks to bend them, laminated them into panels, and poured resin embedded with stick shavings for the glowing outer sections.

Structurally it’s a raw, imperfect inner column wrapped in more refined outer layers — lit from within so you can see both at once. Took over 600 hours.

Named it Vessel. Built to hold light the way a life holds everything that shaped it — every voice, every bruise, every kindness.

Favorite Way To Track Projects

I know some of us just be making stuf for the love of the game, but I'm genuinely curious about something. How do y'all like to track y'all resin projects, molds and stuff?

Cleaning up edges

Finally finished my most recent coffee table slab. Been orbital sanding the sides the last couple days. Mostly so I don’t slice my hands to ribbons just lifting the thing. The plan is for this to be completely sunken in a wooden frame so it doesn’t NEED to look clean but I wanted to ask reddit for advice. How would you clean these up or clarify them? Would you dome? Use lacquer? How would you keep spills from wrecking the rest of the piece? What would you use to finish the top surface so it’s damaged resistant and will last longer? I plan to keep making these and I wanted them to be good quality since I wanna sell them.

First test with the Curing Machine went surprisingly well

I finally tested curing machine on a small transparent flower mold, and it turned out better than I expected.

It cured in about 2 hours, which felt a lot faster than my old setup. The piece came out clear, glossy, and evenly cured without me having to keep checking it.

Still need to try it with more molds, but for small flowers, charms, and jewelry pieces, first impression is really good.

Melted Van

Had this toy van from my childhood, messed it up on purpose (I actually tried to melt it but that was a lot harder than I thought XD), filled it with plasticine, dumped a bunch of candlewax on it, made a mold, and this is a resin cast of that whole thing.

How much wall thickness around glued threaded inserts in resin printed enclosure

Hi everyone,

I’m designing a resin 3D printed electronics enclosure, and I need to add threaded inserts for M3 screws.

The inserts will not be heat-set because the part is resin printed. They will be glued into the holes instead.

The insert dimensions are:

  • Outer diameter: 5 mm
  • Length: 5 mm

My question is: how much material should I leave around the insert hole to avoid cracking?

For example, if the insert hole is around 5.1 mm diameter, what should the outer boss diameter be? Is 2 mm wall thickness around the insert enough, or should I aim for 2.5–3 mm?

The enclosure may experience some vibration, so I want the insert area to be strong but not too bulky because the part also needs to be cost-effective for resin printing.

Any advice from people who have used glued threaded inserts in resin parts would be appreciated.

REPOST WITH PICTURES - what am i doing wrong? (someone please help)

can someone help me with what i am doing wrong?

(for reference — in the first pic the one on the left worked but after 2 days of drying and the one on the right didn’t, the second image didn’t work at all)

i have been making resin letters and bookmarks and they just won’t set.

i have a very precise scale and always measure the resin and hardener to an exact a:b or 1:1 ratio (from what ive read this is correct? e.g. exactly 10ml of resin and exactly 10ml of hardener) — i am using the dr.resin brand.

i stir them together for 5 minutes.

i add the flowers then leave them to set for 10 minutes before adding the top layer.

but this is where it’s weird — sometimes i can make identical bookmarks and one will work and the second one will remain tacky even after days of drying.

i’ve tried wiping with an alcohol wipe and it doesn’t work.

what am i doing wrong? i don’t understand how i can use the exact same mixture and have one work and one stay tacky? am i adding the flowers too close to the top? is my ratio wrong or im not leaving them to set long enough?

any advice would be much appreciated. thank you :)

Removing resin 🤦🏻‍♀️ - advice?

I've worked with resin before on small projects so I am familiar with the safety practices, how to prevent bubbles, general curing rules, etc.

Unfortunately a family member took on a project I specifically asked him not to do, and the result is a beautiful piece of 50 year old live edge wood filled in with bubbly, cloudy, dirty, resin. There were two retirees involved in this crime and I can't get any solid information. I suspect it might be not properly cured as well but I am unsure what was used, how it was mixed, if there was water contamination, etc...

How might I get the resin out of the knots and start fresh? Do I try a heat gun? I have access to many tools and am willing to put money and time into salvaging this.

Tyia!

Made from UV resin, polymer clay and acrylic paint. Are these good enough to sell?

I made these to match a dress to attend a wedding and now I'm wondering if I could make earrings like this to potentially sell. I am looking for opinions on if they are good enough quality that people might want them, and if so what price point I might consider?
