Missing Google Play has caused me more troubles than I expected
I own a few games on the Google Play Store. I had always assume that since I can just find a modded version of said game somewhere online, I can still play it since even though it's a pirated version, I had actually paid for it and own it. I just couldn't use the official version due to the limitation of the device. However, the SMAPI app for Stardew Valley require you to use the official version from the Play Store. I own the game, but now I can't use it, which makes me pretty uncomfortable. Any suggestion would be extremely appreciated! I'm using GammaOS Lite and thinking to switch to GammaOS Full, but hesitant because the performance is lower, and I have to re-setup the whole device again. Thank you so much in advance!
Battery draining when turned off
Hi does anyone else have issues with battery drain when fully shut down? I have Rocknix installed (nightly version 20260502). I shut down last night at about 50% charge and then today it is completely drained
Best Setup - OS and Frontend
Hey, I need help I got my rg ds a while ago but couldnt use it Till now..

Bigger, Brighter, Better?
Comparison of the screens on my RG35XXSP and RGDS. Same brightness level, shader, and custom aspect ratio (as recommended in Russ' shader tutorial).
I think it might be time to officially retire the RG35XXSP. It's served me well, but I barely use it anymore as I much prefer to use my RG40XXV or RGDS for my GBA fix.
I'm trying to downsize and reduce redundancies in my gaming devices. Might gift it to my nephew.
Has anyone tried drill some holes/mod the bottom shell so that the temp of RG DS lowers? Bottom gets too hots even with some thermals to spread the heat.
This is more of a deal breaker than i thought .
RG DS Slim Grip by JCSFY
The slim case I ordered JUST arrived. Here are my first impressions:
pros:
• it’s lightweight yet very durable hard TPU (and not soft silicone like I imagined lol)
• the stylus holder fits the official stylus VERY snug. Passed the vigorous shake test.
- all holes for volume rocker, power button, lanyards holes, power indicators and 3.5mm jack are perfectly aligned.
• The felt cloth is nice and thick, the device comfortably slides into the slot, wrapping the back and bottom edges so your DS won’t make plastic-to-plastic contact with the case when equipped. Also spaces out to provide a thin layer of air for heat dissipation.
- easy to equip and fits very snug and will not slip off of it’s own.
• The weight of the unit equipped with the grip is lightweight and slim enough to fit in the official anbernic carrying case zipped completely closed.
• the 3D printed layer lines are noticeable but in this case it’s a good thing since it contributes to more grip.
• comfortable grip when holding it, fingers naturally rest on the inside curves.
cons:
- slippery in clammy hands
- some layer lines from the 3D printer are present, some may be sharp, be careful.
- $28.99 + shipping
Rocknix Help
Hi. Currently struggling with rocknix, specifically just adding games seems to be a pain. I switch my usb type to file transfer but it seems to drop the connection after about a minute, I go back into settings to find it has switched back to disabled. Anyone else had issues with this? Also if anyone knows of any decent themes (and how to install them), preferably ones that utilise both screens then please hit me with them 😀
Question about compatibility specifically for Pokemon DS and 3DS ROM Hacks
Hey ya’ll be pretty interested in The RGDS for a solid clamshell handheld. I know there are a few ways to operate the device as well (Android, Rocknix, GammaOS)
My primary use case with my current handheld (RG505) is Pokémon ROMs. From GBA up to 3DS. 3DS runs a little choppy but definitely playable.
My question is for anyone who plays DS and/or 3DS Pokemon games on their RGDS. What is the experience? Are the ROMs like Renegade Platinum running full speed? Are 3DS Pokemon games playable at all? If so what OS and emulators are you using?
Thank you for your answers!
randomly waking up from sleep and overheating on stock
almost every time I put it in my pocket or a bag in sleep mode and I take it out a bit later to use its always awake and extremely hot, with a ton of bettery gone, I dont know why that keeps happening, I thought I was accidentally pressing the button but i know i wasn’t, does Gamma fix this?
Recommendations for first time users/owners
Hi! I'm new to this whole handheld scene and I just ordered my RG DS, my first brand handheld. I would like to ask for a few advice and handy tips, that would help me and potentially other new owners who stumble upon this post later.
I consider myself tech savy and I have a past with SBC-s, also set up my sister r36h console (costum OS on sd card, ports she wanted to be on it and also roms for specific systems).
Should I even try the stock OS or start with slapping something costum on it?
The chipset is way better than the r36h so I guess I can have portmaster working on the RG DS too. Can I somehow use the touchscreen as touchpad for games? Would be way better for Morrowind, and also great for playing something like Fallout 1-2.
My last question is to ask for game recommendations. :)
It would be great to have a recommendation for each genre or for different type/styles.
If I have time I'll tinker and try to improve it where I can, which I will share on this sub later. From what I have heard I might need to do something with the thermals and the battery/battery management. Sadly I don't have as much time as I used to have during college but I'll do what I can.
If there is any other tip you have, let everyone know!
My RG DS customization on a budget
It's been less than a month since I got mine, and I jumped on temu to grab a few things to make my life easier.
I looked for a longer strap, the provided one was nice and all but it really didn't fit the color since it was black. So I got one with a similar color.
Then I grabbed a bunch of nail stickers. They are transparent and small, things I was looking for since I used similar stuff back in the day to customize my old Nintendo DSi.
Then for the pen, I mostly just toss it in my bag but it goes all the waaay to the bottom, I couldn't afford one of those fancy 3D printer grips with pen holders (third world country) so I looked for alternatives and found this cheap pen holder. I checked the original dimensions of the device on anbernic website vs what the pen holder had and it was similar enough. Then I just looked at placements and this is how I ended up going since I can actually grip the console normally.
I wish there was blue, but I was thinking of maybe picking up a spray paint can to replace the one I'm currently using since I got a bunch for cheap and I can always paint another one.
Need help choosing the right vibes for my white RG DS
I've got two sets of stickers, a cherry blossom one and a Snoopy one.
You can see that I originally covered my RG DS' exterior in cooking appliances and pastries, and they're cute, but there's not much order or style to the chaos.
So I'm leaning towards the cherry blossom one because I found a sticker set with illustrations by one of my favorite artists, Flor Kaneshiro, so her illustrations would be the focus and I'd use others as a frame.
But then I also found that Snoopy and Laika one and I melted! I love Laika so much, every time I think about her, I cry, and Snoopy is also a favorite of mine. The big one would be a great center piece, and I got others to fill in the extra space, some stars and space stuff too.
I think that, had I gone with the shimmery blue model, I'd be more certain in using the Snoopy stickers, but the white model will surely look cuter with cherry blossoms.
Thoughts?
PS. All of these were bought as a local showroom here in Argentina.
