I swapped my transmission as a complete noob.

Basically I'm making this post for 2 reasons. Firstly I hope someone out there who thinks they can't Do it will find this and realize that they can do it. Second I still have questions for anyone who knows their shit and takes time to read this.

So I bought a 5speed 96 s10 4cylinder 2.2l with transmission issues (it popped out of 1st and 5th gear. Also sounded like a can of loose change while driving ) after researching the process of swapping out the transmission I decided I could do it.

I bought a 300 piece ratchet set, a torque wrench, extensions, a couple breaker bars, some swivel sockets, a good jack, jack stands, a transmission jack, and I got a used transmission off of eBay. I also went ahead and got a flywheel, clutch kit, and slave cylinder. Also borrowed somestuff from my dad, like. break cleaner and pb blaster. Basically about 1500 bucks worth of stuff.

Some of you may be thinking "why not just pay a mechanic with that money"...to that I say it's only that expensive because it's the first time...next time I will have the tools since I made the investment already. Maybe I didn't save money this time ...but in the long run it will be worth it. Also I got to learn something new and do something cool with my hands ..you can't put a price on that.

Basically everything went smooth except for the exhaust. That shit was so rusted together it took me 2 days of soaking in pbblaster and slowly torqueing to get the bastard off. And putting it back in was just as hard.

Then I removed the driveshaft, then the cross member, then I finally got to pull the trans then the clutch and the flywheel. Got it all swapped and then put it back together

Which brings me to now and my question to you fine people reading. The transmission is not perfect but it's way better than the old one. Me and my dad drove it around for about 25 minutes today and I enjoyed it. Only problem is that it pops out of reverse into neutral sometimes. Also the shifter kind of wiggles in 3rd gear sometimes...Could this be from air in the clutch line? A shifter bushing? Or is that just a worn out transmission from eBay? Lol. We bled the clutch for like 30 mins with a vacuum and got lots of air out of the line. But the clutch still feels softer than before. The truck doesn't creep. And I have no trouble going into first gear. Just curious what you fellers think.

I've included some pics from the journey. It's been pretty fulfilling to learn it and do it honestly.

New shoes!

Picked up this set of 15x6/15x7 staggered Billet Specialties Manta Star’s stupid cheap off marketplace.

A day of polishing and some smaller tires later, and I actually like them better than my Welds 😂😂😂

She is coming along nicely

Put some new wheels and tires on the ol' 1992 4.3 stenny, took the bed off to install new braided fuel lines, new fuel pump, and to apply rust encapsulator on the frame. I still need to buy some center caps for the wheels.

Manual Swap

So I got this 02 s10 crew cab with a 4L60E auto in it rn but I want to manual swap it cause from the research i've done gm never made the crew cab manual and i'd love to have one of the only manual crew cabs. I guess what i'm really asking for help with is, am i only allowed to use the nv3500? like is that the only one that would bolt up with the 4.3 or is there any other transmissions that would bolt together?

Its rough but should be fun.

I made a deal on this 82 S10 Sport. Box is solid, the rest is questionable.

Last tags were '05 and hasn't been started since then. I am leaning toward pulling the 2.8 and column shift auto and doing a 5.3/6.0 4l80 with a floor shifter. The previous owner said that the trans was slipping and it would fall flat at high rpm.

I am excited for the project.

I want to upgrade my wheels.

I have a 2002 Chevrolet S10 single cab with the 4.3L V6. Could you recommend any lightweight, sporty wheels that would fit my truck? I’m looking to improve both the look and performance. Thanks!

Good places to look for original grills? (in good condition)

Every aftermarket grill I can find is modeled completely wrong around the badge and have spotty proportions (image shows wide gaps on either side and poor headlight alignment) I’m looking for an original but I can’t seem to find them anywhere. [1996 S10 LS]

Found wiring harness touching exhaust pipe

96 s10 2.2l 4cylindet..How hard would it be to fix this? The guy who owned the truck before me.. idk what the hell he was thinking. If it's not worth the headache then what would it run me at the mechanic?

Is this rare or no?

So I’ve been wondering is this vinyl design on the side rare or did only specific dealerships put it on? I had originally thought mine was a 1 of 1 but I was driving the other day and saw another s10 with the same exact design.

Zr2 trip mpg

I'm currently on a trip to the keys with my truck, I'm from ft Myers Florida so it's only 280 miles to marathon. My 96 manual zr2 with two drz400's (317~lbs each) and two people with clothes for four days made 18.5 mpg with the AC on, with about 85% of the trip being on cruise control varying from 50-60 depending on the street signs on alligator alley. The other 15% was city with lights. I'm pretty impressed, my truck has the kn intake, throttle blade mod, egr restrictor, shorty headers, empty cat and 2.5in cat back to a passenger side exit in front of the tire. 31" tires. Ill record what my truck does on the way back Saturday, although my ac may not work by then because there is a leak in the line now

This how it’s supposed to be?

I am by no means familiar with how an old truck runs and have no idea what I’m taking abt ever. This seems like it’s either sticking the throttle a bit or dumping and catching up

Moog ball joint for a 2002 Chevy Blazer

So I just bought this car last month and heard clunking so I assumed it needed ball joints so I replaced upper and lower on the passenger side and the bottom ball joint immediately starting spitting grease and the knocking started up again. Did rock auto seriously send me a bad ball joint? Is this common? Also I’d like to note that the joint itself only came with one bolt for the mounting hardware. It requires four for the job. Lmk guys thank you!

Hello, I had a pinion seal that was leaking and I just replaced, but now the yoke won’t go on right. I feel like it’s something obvious that I’m missing. Thanks!
