After 18 years

For 18 years the “service engine soon” light has been illuminated in this truck. All because of the secondary air injection pump needing replacement. Everyone tells me $229 dollars for an unnecessary replacement isn’t worth it. Deleting the code doesn’t work. Unplugging the pump didn’t do it. I don’t know what else to do and I am not an electrician.

So today I decided to show this girl who’s been in the family since grandpa bought her brand new in 2001 some respect. I replaced the fucking pump.

Light went off and it was worth the money.

She only has 148k on her and has been my ride or die since 2007.

Nice to know check engine light will actually warn me to a real problem now. Now to figure out why my ABS and Park Brake lights won’t shut off.

4.3 intake manifold gaskets

I own a 2001 Silverado with the 4.3 engine and a leaking manifold engine tends to struggle to reach operating temperature and the leak has been confirmed by a mechanic was quoted 1300 for repair i’m contemplating doing this myself but with a tireless 3 year old and a tired work from home wife it would take me weeks to get it done I guess the one advantage I have is that it’s not my primary vehicle and can sit for a bit if needed from the videos I’m seeing I still need to get clarity on how to align the engine before removing the distributor also the kits that I’m seeing also include gaskets for the valve covers should I replace those as well? Also what would be the most effective way to clean the manifold itself only break cleaner? Any advice is welcomed

I have a 1992 s10 and no cup holders.

Have any of yall come up with ideas for cup holders? I was thinking about using the ash tray pullout and replacing it, but it seems flimsy. Any suggestions help. I’d rather not damage anything if possible but that may be unavoidable.

Radiator fan

So when my truck temp reaches around 210ish and I’m in traffic once I start going my radiator fan makes a louder noise as if it’s spinning harder. It lasts around less than a minute and it goes away once I start driving. Any ideas of why that happens? Is it common? 2000 Chevy s10 4.3L 120k.

Need help identifying/replacing interior door panel pieces on my 1988 Chevy S10 (light duty) + trying to keep it red/original

Hi everyone. I know next to nothing about cars or trucks, so I’m hoping you all can help point me in the right direction.

I have a 1988 Chevy S10 light duty truck, and I’m trying to replace the interior door panels on both sides. The truck has the original red interior, and I’d really love to keep that look if possible.

I found what might be the right part online, but I have no idea if I’m looking at the correct thing or about to waste money ordering the wrong part.

Also, in the first photo, the driver side door is missing the pull handle so if anyone knows the exact name for that part or where I can find one, I’d appreciate it.

A few questions:

• Is the correct term I’m looking for door panels?

• Are original red ones still available anywhere? I can’t seem to find them.

• Would a light duty S10 use anything specific I need to watch for?

• Is there a better place to search for OEM or period-correct replacements?

2002 S10, 4.3 Vacuum Hose

I have a 2002 Chevy S10, V6 with automatic transmission that I acquired from an estate sale. I have it running, but there is a vacuum hose, on the driver's side that tees off and looked like it ran behind the ABS system, where it was broke off. I have replaced it with a longer hose but I don't know what it originally hooked to.

Was wondering if anyone had the same model and could inform me where it went too.

Time for an Engine Swap

Hey reddit, looking for some advice.

For context; I currently have an ‘03 with the 2.2 and the nv1500 5 speed manual. The 2.2 is starting to get to the end of its life and i’m thinking its about time for an upgrade. I do a lot of driving relatively long distances and around half the time i have a full truck bed, but I don’t do any towing or real serious haulage so i’m not looking at any V8 swaps (especially since i’d probably have to upgrade to the nv3500 to handle the torque anyways).
I’m hoping to keep the nv1500 in the truck if at all possible.

All that to say, after looking through forums at possible engine pairings that fit my needs i saw a lot of mixed reports on what works and what doesn’t. Allegedly both the Buick 3800 v6 and the VW 1.9 TDI can bolt up to the nv1500 with relative ease or an adapter plate.
Now I understand it wont be quite a necessarily cost effective nor plug-and-play situation either way, but i’m leaning towards the 3800 so i don’t need to mess with converting the truck to handle diesel. I’m not looking for an insane output of power. Both engines will be built and tuned with the idea of reliability, longevity, and the ability to go uphill with a truck full of gear without dropping 20 mph as the first priorities.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these pairings? If so, how does it hold up over time? Full disclosure: this is my first engine swap so any advice is helpful.

TLDR; Which is best paired with the nv1500 transmission, a VW 1.9 TDI or Buick 3800?

I just pulled a 14 foot trailer through Canada, AMA

1998 GMC Jimmy 4x4 SLS

I did have both the engine and transmission rebuilt prior to taking this almost 4,500 mile trip from Arizona to Alaska. A friend hauled the trailer to Seattle so I could break in the engine, and I hauled it the rest of the way. Engine and transmission had 270,000 miles on them before the rebuild.

Trailer is a 6x14 Compass single axle hauling a 2013 Yamaha V-Star 1300 Deluxe and 2019 Honda Rebel 500.

My responses may be slow, but they will come.

Bagged s10 help

Bought some “bolt in” bag cups for my first gen s10 blazer, for any of you bagged owners out there;

Do I need to cut these spring fingers away or did I get some cheap shitty cups? The hole on top of the upper control arm mount seems to be a bit out of line with the threaded post nut location. Did you have to elongate that hole a little bit? Cutting the fingers a bad idea?

Cups were ordered from AVS.

Well, today was the day it finally happened

Hit a deer on my way to work running about 75, lucky me I went over the deer and not the other way around having the deer go over me. Grill and lights are smashed pretty good and the bumper is pushed in, but I got it pushed back out and still running. Good news is nothing under the hood is busted, and I already found a full replacement kit for 200 beans. If anyone is interested in finding a front grill, bumper and valence I'll send you the link I found

I swear Thanos would have to clap to destroy an S10

Is my oil pump bad when oil pressure drops to 0 when the engine warms up fully [98 s10 2.2L 5 speed]

It drops to 0 on the gauge, but driving it'll go to 20 and stay there, I have replaced the oil pressure sensor after the mechanic i took it to replace the spark ignition computer module thingy [sorry I forgot its exact name] when it died. I just can't understand why it drops dead when hot, but when its cold just being turned on, it's around 50psi. It's got 365k miles on it, and I dont want the engine to go out because it's my daily truck.
